Once we got ahold of them and found out no reservations and that it was a very small (3-4 tables) we can't star - can't get ahold of them at their phone - tried many times - but once we got there and it was empty (scary but then worth it), we had a very nice meal - the ambiance is odd since there was only one other couple there during our entire meal but good drinks and good food. I'd try it again.

The tacos were so bland. No seasoning on the chicken, and covered in onions I had to pick off once I got home, after it was even confirmed in person I didn't want onions. Way overpriced for this let down. This photo is after I picked off the onions. First and last time going here sadly because the guy behind the counter seemed really friendly.

Honestly, not that this places needs another 5 star review, but why not!?!First, this is NOT New Mexican cuisine, it’s not even TexMex, but it is bougie Mexican food. So no Hatch green chiles here. With that said…The food is excellent. It’s all in the seasoning and presentation. We were lucky to walk in and be seated immediately too without reservations, seeing as they are frequently waitlisted. The Birria Tacos are 5 out of 5, best we’ve ever had. I just closed my eyes and tried to memorize the flavor it was so good. How do they get their beef to taste like that?!The Steak Enchiladas (1 carnitas) were 4/5. Enchiladas are hard to impress, but that verde sauce was on point and the corn tortillas were soft and delicious. Carnitas were excellent, but the steak was steak, nothing superior than the norm, but good. Black beans banging too.The elote was gone before we could even take a pic.The Sopes a la carte with carnitas was excellent from top to bottom, yummy! The red and green salsas were fire!! Amazing, well made. Not every spot gets both right. They threw in the their Molletitos which were okay, but a nice introduction. The Guacamole Azteca was pretty good too, definitely worth it with the plantain chips. Save some and add to your tacos or other entrees too.The Firebowl Platanitos was memorable to say the least for its scrumptious rum and cinnamon flavor and fun experience.Overall, wonderful quaint date night! We recommend you try whatever your heart desires because you will likely enjoy whatever you get.Parking: Very limited spaces, the restaurant is very small too, so consider Uber or timing of your visit.

Everything was excellent. The mole margarita was great. The plantain fire bowl was delicious and fun. But honestly the best part of the meal was probably the beans. Just really great flavor and proof of attention to detail. We'll be back!

Tavo's had some of the best Mexican food I've eaten in Milwaukee. Surprised at the minuscule size on entering, Tavo's has maybe five tables, with two four tops. I was fortunate only one couple was there at 5:30. The four of us perused the extensive and interesting menu after we ordered cocktails. This is a family-run restaurant, with the husband in the kitchen operating the stoves and his wife serving tables. Service isn't lighting quick, but it never created long waits disturbing our pleasure. Your drinks and food are custom-made; nothing is canned or mass-produced. That Margarita is a craft cocktail.Beautifully presented, each dish was a colorful display of culinary skills. My chicken with a piquant verde mole was scrumptious. The standard Burritos and Tacos rose above what you would find at 99% of the Mexican restaurants in town. Tavo's kitchen has skill apparent in every dish. Restaurant Tavo's is a culinary destination. You won't find buckets of slushy Margaritas served in plastic glasses. Prices were slightly higher than the typical Mexican joint with the packed lot and the recorded Mariachi music. However, you get what you pay for.

Dined here last weekend, this is a tiny place that only holds five tables. I'm most surprised that when my date and I split the bill, our server added **2** split check fees at $5 each, adding $10 to our bill for splitting the check and didn't bother to tell us. I'm disappointed by the hidden fee and likely won't return or recommend this place to others.

We moved here from San Antonio/Austin, Texas, early this year. I am of Mexican descent, and I love and was nourished on truly great Tex Mex cooking. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in the Milwaukee area, but while very good, they are not what I am familiar with. And though Milwaukee has truly excellent food overall (Birch, Bartalotta, and so much more...), sometimes I miss my Tex Mex.Tavos serves excellent cuisine. As good as any we have had since exploring Milwaukee's great restaurants. Though the food is not exactly Tex Mex, it seems to carry the Tex Mex soul, but elevated to something more complex and refined. We had a table close to the kitchen door. As trays of plates paraded by we saw beautifully prepared dishes. There is plenty to explore on multiple visits. We had Birria Tacos, Mole Enchiladas, and the standard Guacamole. I also had a tasty Margarita. We had a wonderful meal. My Tex-Mex soul was replenished. The service was warm, and our server was wonderful. The room is small. Only a few tables. It deserves to be packed, but we got a table as a walk-in. Because it's so tiny, reservations are probably a good idea.

Went out with my wife and we found this small gem. Outstanding food and great service at a great price. House margaritas and house tacos were better than top shelf elsewhere. If you’re looking for a great meal that won’t break the bank you have to stop here. Space is small but they do take online orders. Also tried the mango habanero margarita which was smooth, delicious and just the right amount of heat.

They denied my service dog access. This is against the law the ADA requires any business to allow a service animal into their business. I would never patronize a business that denies people with disabilities to their service animal.

This small little place in Wisconsin is serving unbelievable top quality Mexican food, it is amazing the craft, quality and attention to detail they give on every dish.

This was an amazing place! We've been wanting to come for years and finally made. Worth the wait. The food was excellent; I had the fish enchiladas and my gf had the steak tacos. Absolutely exceptional. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Thank you!
