Even one star is great enought. Whole the menu is changed and portions is changed. We had 2 rice and came one rice. When we called they said its large dize but it wasnt.

Chinese food in Madison is very hit or miss in my opinion. So I’m always on the lookout for different restaurants to try. China star was next on my list and it didn’t disappoint. Now it does have its differences than other Madison Chinese restaurants. I would compare this to a Chicago Chinese restaurant. The fried rice doesn’t have peas and carrots, and a lot of dishes have sprouts which is a plus in my book. The egg rolls were perfectly prepared and the egg foo young (complete with sprouts), was very fulfilling. The beef and broccoli were pretty basic but the meat was very tender and flavorful. Definitely would recommend and plan to go back to try more dishes!

I’ve visited this Chinese restaurant a few times before COVID and always had a decent experience, but my recent visit was very disappointing. The food quality has gone downhill, and the overall dining experience was not the same as I remembered.
The gravy for the egg foo young had no flavor at all, and when dining in, they now serve food on cheap paper plates, which took away from the dining atmosphere. The fried rice tasted like it was at least two days old—dry and unappetizing. To top it off, they don’t even offer a free cup of water when you dine in.
Overall, the food was not good, and the experience felt rushed and careless. It’s possible there’s a new cook, but unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

I ordered the bourbon chicken. It was the worst bourbon chicken I have ever had, hands down. The chicken was so dry and hard that it could have been smothered in the finest sauce in the world and it wouldn't have mattered. It hurt swallowing it. It was also supposed to come with steamed rice and I asked for an additional side of fried rice. Based on what I paid, I paid for the fried rice in addition to the bourbon chicken, which is what I asked for and would have been fine, except they skipped out on the steamed rice, so I didn't even get that. I would not recommend this place

Well, I ordered delivery and when I got the food it was terrible. The chicken tasted like it was old. I didn't like anything about the food and will never order food here again. They couldn't pat me to order from them.

Today I ordered my usual beef fried rice, egg rolls and beef egg foo young. The food was delicious and EXCELLENT as it always is!! Everything was very tasteful!! Hands down this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Madison. It tastes the exact same as the old restaurant Ruby’s. The only difference is the name. If you’re looking for good, authentic Chinese food this is definitely the place to go!! Five stars across the board from me and my family!!

I'd say 9/10 - Crab Rangoon weren't very seasoned. Friend rice highly recommend yum yum yum. Travel a bunch and was very surprised. Bean sprouts are in it which I love but it is different so wanted to mention.

I ordered sweet and sour pork. What I got was a bunch of little fried pork balls that weren't good at all. It came with some super sweet orange glaze. No veggies at all. Very disappointed.
