Visiting the Grumpy Troll used to be something I would look forward to every time I was in Mt Horeb. I had been warned by the locals that it had changed for the worse, but I was still eager to go there this week because I've always loved their food and beer. However, we did not eat there today, and I will never be going there again after what happened to my dear friend whom I was meeting there. When I arrived, she was in tears in front of the restaurant. She proceeded to tell us how rudely she had been treated, and how she was asked to LEAVE the building due to a misunderstanding between her and the person at the front counter regarding putting our names on the waiting list. It was all so ridiculous, unprofessional, and unnecessary, it's hard to even explain. This was supposed to be a special day for us to all get together, and we specifically chose the Grumpy Troll for this event. Instead, her experience there put a huge damper on our entire day together. Just terrible inexcusable customer service. We ended up going to the Sunn Cafe right down the street and had a great meal with kind, attentive service.

Sadly I didn't take any photos Inside, but this is our third trip here. It has always been worth the drive as we live a distance away. Food is always great, grumpy troll brew features lots of local partnerships. I got to enjoy a brat that was sourced from a local meat shop, and purchased a mug on the way out from a local artisan. The host actually pointed out that the artisan was sipping a beer at the bar during which I purchased. Also got a growler of the house made root beer on the way out. If you're in the area make sure to stop in!

Over an hour. Waited forever for our food. Not even an apology. Kids hangry. They were busy, but no reason just to ignore people while they wait & wait & wait. Food was good, not great. Not worth waiting so long for. Very, very loud atmosphere. Not recommended.

Caitlin was a great server, patient, funny, and kind. We would truly come back on a future visit, especially if they have the house made cottage cheese again.

We ordered a chocolate milk for our 6 yr. old grandson and he got a big cup like adults but the other kids at the next table had small kids plastic cups and then we ordered a kids hamburger meal and were told they were out and asked if they could substitute an adult hamburger and we were like okay. Then we were charged for an adult hamburger meal. Now we can't get a response from The Grumpy Troll. Bad practices and I consider it a gimmick. We didn't agree to an adult meal just a substitution. He never got his cookie either. Should be ashamed of themselves. Watch your bills here.

Our order had an item missed, the cheese curds were over cooked and the grilled cheese was burnt. We were very disappointed.

We have been here a couple of times and always sat at the bar, this time we had table service and truly wish we wouldn't have wasted out time. We were sat waited for at least 20 minutes to have our drink order taken and we could see it was busy so no problem. When we got our drinks and placed our food order we made the mistake to ask for sauce for my sons chicken strips. I read the child menu in its entirety and never did is say there was a charge for ranch. I guess "in the fine print" it says $1.50 per sauce. Being a business owner myself i understand that costs have went up however out of courtesy the server could have reminded us there was a charge. When we received the bill i just asked why it doesnt say the charge is added in kids menu , she went and got the main menu (which does not have a child menu section) and said " they get ya its in the fine print" and then got an attitude when i replied. She then huffed off and got the manager. The manager did his job but tried to use the excuse of being busy as the reason for her behavior.. i sincerely hope caitlyn m. Receives a lesson in humility and looses her attitude because it sucks and it makes small town businesses look bad

Always a great place to eat when we visit Mt.Horeb. We were going to try somewhere new this trip but the morons down the road had a Harris sign in the front yard. Glad we came here again.

IF YOURE FROM OUT OF TOWN DO NOT GO HERE. I am a tiny girl.. under 5 foot and under 100lbs. I was assaulted by two other women that are frequent locals on patio. im from california and I wish I could give this place -100 stars. Honestly I should have called the police when this happened but I just wanted to get home. One pulled my hair and the other pushed me up against the wall. After the altercation I went to leave and even paid for my 1 drink even though I should have just walked out. The Bartender told me she was going to kick out the other two women immediately after I left. My friend and I walk to the car and get in sitting there momentarily. To our surprise the two women that assaulted me walk back into the patio laughing and sit down to continue drinking their drinks. They obviously knew the staff and the staff just let them both go sit back down. If I could go back in time I would 100% call the police if I had known management was going to choose to do NOTHING about me being assaulted.

In response to the owner: i am 100% correct in where this happened at. I wrote the address down when I left. It's no surprise you don't know what happens under your own roof.

We went to the Grumpy Troll while travelling in Wisconsin. It was recommended to us by a local patron. The atmosphere was exceptional, laid back and it had a good vibe.

The food was exceptional we had the french dip and the three meat bbq platter & two custom beers-- I personally recommend the Sunflower Ale light & flavorful.

The service was good the waiter could have been more attentive-- Mount Horeb is a great town with several nice local shops & eateries. It was a great way to spend the day-- Highly recommend you go if you are on the atea.
