This place thinks they’re hot stuff. ? ??We stopped in around 8pm after an event in downtown for a late dinner. The greeting was cold and confusing at the door.We were seated to a very dark corner and it took a few minutes to get the little lamp. The dining room was fine and I liked the upscale vibe but was bothered by the music videos playing on the televisions screens—some were not family friendly by any means.The chips were fine, but the salsa was served warm/hot and tasted like marinara sauce. ?The limited menu is on the pricier end for the Fox Valley. We don’t mind paying what they were asking for some of these dishes, however, my skirt steak burritos tasted just as good as the other Mexican places in town, for $5-7 more.Service was fine, but I’m most angry that on top of my $22 steak burritos, I was charged $5 FOR LETTUCE AND TOMATO on the side. Absurd. ?? The chicken burritos next to the steak ones on the menu had lettuce and tomato listed coming with it, and I like the freshness with my Mexican food. I asked for lettuce and tomato with mine and the server said “of course, on the side?” Yes. Didn’t find out it’s the greatest up-charge (rip-off) I’ve ever experienced until the check came. Just insult to the injury that was the tiniest little dollop of sour cream on top. ?So, dinner was good, but not $28 good. Glad I didn’t order a drink—my pockets would’ve been emptied for the weekend.

I took my 2 kids and myself to Zacatecas tonight at 7pm. The man host would not let me in, told me it would be a 45 minute wait but we can’t wait in the restaurant. Then a group of 4 adults came in after us and he sat them, mind you they had no reservations. Guess kids can’t eat here?? We left and went somewhere else. I won’t be back and neither will my groups of customers.

We came here for dinner after our wedding. Our service was great, as were the drinks. The meal was lack luster for the price. The chicken burrito we got for our daughter was incredibly dry. I'm not even sure what I ordered because it was so unremarkable. Also setting up our reservation was odd. We were told that they couldn't take a reservation at 6pm, but 545pm was okay. We had 3 kids with our party and were told over the phone something along the lines of they've had issues with kids being in the restaurant before and that if they get too loud we'd be kicked out.

The food at Zacateca's is ALWAYS excellent. They have had the same chefs for over 10 years. Margaritas are the best I've ever had.

Couldn't tell you about the food, because we waited over an hour after our reservation time only be told it hadn't been started yet. No apology. We cancelled our food order and left. Our waiter was very attentive, never had empty drinks - but manager could have cared less, he never even approached us even as we were paying our drink bill. Will never go back and will never recommend this place to friends/family.
