Our family of 14 embarked on a mini spring break trip to Madison, WI and our first stop was at New Glarus, also known as Little Switzerland. This is a quaint and beautiful town with a population of just slightly overly 2,000. Some of the items that we ordered are the cheese curds, fried mushroom, fried cheese BLT, mini potato pancakes, Ott Haus burger, and currywurst. The latter three particularly stood out. The mini potato pancakes were well-fried and crispy. The Ott Haus burger was the 2023 Green County Burger Contest Winner and rightfully so! It was exceptional especially with the house-made bourbon bacon jam. The currywurst brought back fond memories of my business travels to Germany. We upgraded the burgers and sandwiches to come with fries and tater tots instead of house chips. Portions were generous and everyone was stuffed. The restaurant isn't very big but thankfully it was a Thursday afternoon so it was not overly busy and we were able to combine three tables to accommodate for our party size. Another thing to take note of is that they charge an additional fee for credit card users. I guess it's understandable since this is a small establishment in a small town. However, for our party size, the bill was easily +$200 and who would carry that much cash these days?

This place has a lot of regulars, so my review probably won't be taken seriously, but here goes. If you want burgers, this place is okay.First thing I noticed is they have the bartender doing everything. She clearly looked overwhelmed the whole time and one couple had to move from a table to the bar to get any kind of service.Second, the currywurst. It should honestly be taken off the menu. It's an insult to currywurst. The sausages were fried to death and tasted like dry, overcooked bologna. Then they put a sprinkle of sauce on there. If you've ever had currywurst, you'll know they're usually drowning in the sauce. I thought it was a sad amount and asked for more. They said they were out.Fine, I tried to eat it with some ketchup and mustard, but this was practically inedible. After getting through some of it, I couldn't eat it anymore. I asked the bartender if she could comp the meal since they never communicated they were out of sauce, and she asked if I would do 50%. I suppose I did eat roughly half, so I thought that was fair. The owner said extra sauce is a courtesy, so they won't do it. They offered me a drink chip for one free drink. So you want me to come back for one drink after I ate that dish? Yikes. I just paid the full bill and left. It was too much of a headache to argue after sitting around for slow service for so long. Once I'm back in the area, I'll go anywhere else. Maybe don't offer German food on your menu if you have no clue what it is.

The POTATO CHIPS! Ok, I love fries, and I hate when a burger place offers a bag of chips, but these are homemade potato chips like I've never had before. I'm not from around these here parts. Dang they were good. Anyway, what a cool pub, nice and cozy. Burgers took a while but were worth the wait. Server was really nice.

This place is definitely more of a bar atmosphere. People who are looking for that will really enjoy this place. The food was creative and tasty. The service was good to.
