A must visit when in New Glarus. Great historic pub with fresh beer on tap.

What little time I spent here, the service, much less surroundings were absolutely well worth it and then some!
Very rarely is a simple watering hole such as this so elaborate!

Stopped in for an Old Fashioned. The guy behind the bar (I think someone called him Chuck) was very put out when we asked for our 2 drinks. One had WAY too much simple syrup & was so sweet it was not drinkable. We didn't have food.

The charm of this old tavern is what drew us in and would make us go back. The unbreaded cheese curds were great.

When my wife and I travel through Central Wisconsin, and have the time ,we avoid the Interstate and take the local state highways. That usually brings us to New Glarus. Being the "off season", the usual Swiss restaurants were not open early in the week. I had read about Puempedl's Tavern so we gave it a try. We weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is great. There were some local ladies playing a few hands of Euchre and everyone seemed friendly. The waitress came to our table as soon as we sat down and took our drink order. They have a nice selection of soups and sandwiches. We both chose the Beef Stew and it was perfect with a thick broth, large pieces of beef and fresh vegetables. My wife had a Pulled Pork sandwich and I had a Liverwust & Limburger Cheese sandwich, with raw onion on Marble Rye bread. The sandwiches were large enough, we only ate half to take half home, along with two orders of Beef Stew. We'll be back.
Men's bathroom was the filthiest I've seen in a restaurant, in decades. Stains, grim and smell.

We visited New Glarus, WI, AKA Little Switzerland. After enjoying walking around the shops we stopped in Puempel's Olde Tavern for lunch. I had the bratwurst sandwich with chips which was very tasty. At the table there was a choice of 3 different mustards to choose from to put on my brat.
My husband chose the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. The others had the Italian Beef sandwich which they all said was great.
We all enjoyed looking at the murals painted on the walls and enjoyed hearing about the history of the Tavern.
Many locals were there and seemed to be the place to be. They were very friendly and spoke to us about the history when they heard us talking to the waitresses.
