Food was delicious, atmosphere was heavy on locals, & service was good. Highly recommend the garlic cheese bites. They were heaven. We ordered a mix of appetizers & burgers. Food came out fast, hot, & delicious. The garlic cheese bites were garlicky, lightly fried, lightly battered. I emphasize the garlic because sometimes you order something with flavor & you're left trying to figure out where the flavor was... not this time. Prices were normal. Portions were good.

We hadn't eaten at the Roost for some time after learning their cook was not vaccinated against Covid, nor did the staff wear masks except in the earliest days of the pandemic. We arrived at the restaurant at 4:00 opening time. We were the first ones in the door. In spite of this we waited forever for our food. Food was cold, my cole slaw never did arrive in spite of my partner's salad being served and eaten before I finally had to ask for my cole slaw. Fish fry arrived ...3 pieces of very white cod on a plain white plate with no garnish, no lemon, no tartar sauce, no butter. Forgot my potato. My partner's potato was from the night before...just reheated...couldn't even cut into it it was so over-microwaved and grey inside. We asked for some tartar sauce...never received it. Food arrived cold after waiting a long time for it. Asked for it to be reheated. Waitress disappeared with the food. Half hour later she still had not come back with the food. One hour after arriving at their 4:00 opening time, I went into the kitchen and asked where my food was. The young girl in the kitchen snapped at me "We're making you a new meal, you weren't happy with it." I just wanted it heated up. 1 hour after arriving and still no food we left. Waitresses were in gym shorts and ripped jeans. A far cry from the opening days of this restaurant when they were trying to duplicate a Minneapolis fine dining experience in this lake community. They do a large catering business to a neighborhood bar and eatery and special events. This seems to be the focal point of the owner at the expense of letting the restaurant slide. .

The ribs and shrimp were terrific! The Parmesan sauce with the shrimp was fantastic. As always great service and good food!

Jeff is the only guy that I've ever known that has only ever had one job. Bartender at Vanderhyde's. Awesome place, don't miss it!!!! Me at Jeff's old place on long lake. Good times.
Super unique dive bar and convenience store for all of your expired food needs! Seriously, it's absolutely worth a stop because there's nothing else like it.

Jeff is the BEST!!!! Ask him about driving into the swamp by M and Morningside road. I was with him, he will remember me as the guy who got a $160.00 speeding ticket in Rice Lake when we used to go to the races together. My family bought their old house by the boat ramp on long lake.WATCH OUT, AHHHHHH
