BEST Mexican food in Wausau. The salsa has flavor unlike all the other Mexican restaurants in town. Can't wait to come back!!
We had the tacos carnitas and tacos de lengua. Love the chips.
Good service and atmosphere. The vegetarian burrito I had wasn’t the greatest, unfortunately. Some of the vegetables inside seemed to have been frozen and only partially thawed. The first few bites were good, but not an overall great meal. My friends, however, were pretty happy with their food so I may have just gotten a bad dish.

The service is extremely friendly. Polite and kind, always smiling.
I ordered the #1 lunch combo, which consists of 1 enchilada, 1 hard shell taco w/choice of meat, mine was steak, and all lunch special combos includes rice & beans, for only $8.50. It came fairly quick, and it was excellent. Very delicious.

Service was great, food was okay. My husband and I felt like it was lacking in flavor, but I believe my inlaws enjoyed it. Horchatas were okay, fajita taco salad was like they just warmed up the peppers and onions. Fajita sampler had seasonings but it was all rather muted- the shrimp was good.
Chips and salsa were served, not warm but they were still good. Everyone agrees the salsa was really good.
But service was absolutely wonderful- had an allergic reaction to something with the shrimp (we think it was the type of shrimp) and they did their best to help us try to figure out if it was a seasoning or something so it can be avoided in the future. They were also very attentive. Prices were also decent. Children's portions were also decent for an adult that usually takes home leftovers, in my opinion.
Parking: Parking is mixed with other businesses parking

Gone downhill. We were here about a year ago and it was much better. Ordered some enchiladas and a large burrito. The beans were watery and lacked flavor. The rice was run of the mill with very little flavor. The enchiladas were shredded beef and it was just ok. The burrito was ok, but nothing special. Unfortunately, I probably won’t return unless I read that they’ve ramped up their game.

I wasn't told about the prices of dip until I was given the bill. I was pretty pissed seeing it and they didn't care at all.

Authentic. Tasty. Having grown up in the desert Southwest, I'm VERY picky about Mexican cuisine...and El Charro delivers. Faithfully, every time. Highly recommended. Chile relleno and Chile Colorado are our go-to meal items, but everything is so comforting and delicious. ☺?

We had the fish tacos. Very disappointed. Very expensive for the very small fish and no additional ingredients in the taco.
