My wife and I have visited Smithy's a number of times over the past couple years. Charlie, the owner, is always pleasant. But, his female bartender is something else! On several occasions I have asked her to make a grasshopper for me. Each and every time I have done so, she sighs and makes a big deal about it.The final straw was about 8:30 on a Friday evening in late June, 2016. There was NO ONE at the bar when I walked in, and immediately she made a fuss about being asked to make the grasshopper. At the very best, I felt unwelcome. So, I said to her and the owner, "See ya!" and walked out.I was a good repeat customer at Smithy's.No longer.

We got there was seated right away. The food was amazing and the service top notch. I am a chef and I could not ask for a better dinner experience. The owners are the best people you could want. To meet they are awesome people. I highly recommend that if you are in this area. That you stop in and see them. Yes you will pay a little more. But the experience and all that gose with it. You will want to travel the time you spent driving to come back!!

Walked in last night to a sparsely populated dining room and instead of "hello, table for three?" We got "do you have a reservation?" FOR WHAT?!? This place has been open since 1930-something. And the Christmas tree in the dining room has likely been there that long, too! We were told to wait at the bar and "have a cocktail". Then a table that was already open, "opened up" and we were seated. Then, we were asked by THREE different people if we'd paid for drinks at bar (no) and asked what we had. But, we needed a reservation??? The steak was overcooked. The fish fry special was cold. The fries were cold. The potato was cold. The French onion soup had microwaved provolone slices on top. Not broiled. It was a sludge of onion in beef broth. The owner was a jovial guy. But they need to decide, is this a place that takes reservations and charges 10.99 for a house salad...or are they a campy local restaurant that shouts across the room about their work schedules and if patrons have paid for drinks. It cannot be both.
