Went last night with my family and that was some of the worst food I have ever eaten. I went to the one downtown a couple years ago and it was super good so decided to try this location. I ordered the rib tips, catfish, loaded baked potato and Mac n cheese. Every single thing on my plate was lukewarm or cold. The rib tips were hard as a rock like they were cooked days prior then microwaved. If fish tastes fishy it’s bad, and that catfish tasted as fishy as it could get. I literally had to spit it out. My boyfriend had a pulled pork sandwich with mashed potatoes. He only had two bites of his sandwich and didn’t even touch the mashed potatoes. We didn’t attempt to ask the waitress because she didn’t seem to know what was going on. When we ordered drinks, she had to come back three separate times just to tell us the beers we ordered were out. She also had to come back and ask questions because she didn’t know the menu. Mind you, this is Friday night, the most busiest night besides Saturday for a restaurant. For the price of this food, it should be fresh and not microwaved. This food was absolutely terrible.

Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que in Wisconsin Dells was fine for a quick meal, but nothing that stood out. I went with a mixed platter to try a little bit of everything, and while it covered the basics, the flavors leaned more toward fast food style barbecue than the kind of smoke and depth I’ve gotten used to living in Texas. That might just be me holding the bar high, but it’s worth pointing out if you’re expecting competition-level barbecue.

The ribs had a decent char but lacked that slow-smoked tenderness you get when they’re cooked low and slow. Pulled pork was serviceable, a bit on the dry side, and the chicken was pretty average. Sauces were the strongest part of the meal, offering some sweetness and tang to make up for the meat not standing out. The sides were also straightforward — nothing bad, but nothing memorable either.

Service was quick and polite, and the atmosphere felt more like a themed chain restaurant than a local smokehouse. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s just a different experience. If you walk in looking for a casual sit-down meal with predictable barbecue flavors, it does the job.

For me, it scratched the hunger but didn’t wow. In a pinch, it’s fine, but if you’re spoiled on Texas barbecue like I am, it’s going to feel more like a fill-in meal than a destination stop.

Famous Dave's is usually a consistent spot for a barbecue fix. I ordered the two-meat combo with brisket and pulled pork. The pulled pork was fantastic: moist, flavorful, and perfect with their Devil's Spit sauce for a kick. The highlight, as always, was the sweet, cake-like cornbread muffin. The brisket, however, was disappointing on this visit. While it had good flavor and a smoke ring, the meat was dry and not very tender. The sides were decent; the coleslaw was crisp and fresh, but the mac and cheese was just standard. Service was quick and efficient, perfect for a lunch break. It was still a good meal and I would return, but I’ll stick to their pulled pork or ribs, which they consistently get right.

NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN! TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT YOUR RECEIPT AND SPECIFY MORE THAN ONCE WHAT YOU WANT TO ORDER. Our family with only 3 adults ordered the feast for 2 which was more than enough. We let our server know exactly what we wanted and when the food came it was delicious. But once we got our bill the bill had the All American BBQ feast which fed 4-6 people. We knew that was a lot of food to begin with that is why we specified the feast for 2 and still got charged the all American bbq feast. They discounted our receipt but the left overs that we had the restaurant forced us to give them back the left overs we packaged up. Like what was the restaurant going to do with the left overs ? Give them to other people? It’s not our fault we got charged for the wrong meal ?

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received. I experienced a significant delay of over 45 minutes for my order, which was subsequently prepared incorrectly on two separate occasions. Upon finally receiving my meal, I discovered hair in the food. This is unacceptable.

All I have to say is the food was terrible and how do you sell smoke brisket with no small of a smoker coming from the back.

The brisket was very salty, service was very slow and the restaurant was not busy at all. We ask to see the manager but he was in a meeting and the hostess was texting on her phone. We will not be back!

BLACK MOLD!!! I would NOT dine in at this place, the table we were sat at was just covered in black mold!! We had asked to switch to a new table but as we were all looking around at the empty tables they all had it!! We had mentioned it to the workers and they definitely did not seem to care whatsoever!! Don’t give ur money to people who don’t care about ur health especially when there prices are that high!! NASTY!!!

My family went to Famous Dave’s on Friday, July 18, 2025. There were 13 people in my group. The hostess asked if we would mind sitting at two different tables. We requested to sit together. The hostess said they needed to clean the tables before we could be seated. Once we were escorted to the table, we discovered the floor was wet and with debris everywhere. The hostess came and partially mopped the wet mess then left without returning. My cousin grabbed a broom and began to sweep the debris and other cousin used paper towels to dry the floor. The waiter came and grabbed the broom and finish sweeping the floor. The reason for this post is because the hostess never came back and no one ever apologize for the condition of the tables and the floor in which we were seated, which is problematic.
