White Creek Tavern

Stopped on our way to Sand Valley for a boys weekend. Needed a cold one and a little something to eat.

PBR was cold and refreshing and went great with the vintage Slim Jim's and Pork Rinds. Those are probably carry overs from the 1970s so they were the real deal, not the newer ones with the bad fats and corn syrup.

The service was great and came with a history lesson about the bar and the area. Make sure to ask about Ed Gein, he was from around there!

The atmosphere is a little crowded. When we arrived there were two other people there so only one available seat at the bar. They left shortly after we arrived so we had the place to ourselves on a Thurs afternoon.

The bartender told us she wanted us to read an article she had saved. So she entered the storage area to the right of the bar and dug around for about 4 seconds, 8 feet in and 2 feet deep and pulled out that piece of paper. I'm not sure what filing system they use, but it's better than the Dewey Decimal System used in libraries. They should patent it!

White Creek Tavern is a once in a lifetime tavern. If you're ever in the area, I highly suggest stopping for a drink. You won't regret it! The owners are full of information and he knows the history of area with photos to go with the stories. Make sure you stop in and say Hi!

White Creek Tavern, founded in 1933, was BY FAR the divey-est dive bar I've EVER been to in my life, and I love me a good dive bar! The bartender seemed a little off put when we first walked in, however we started talking and she started telling us the history of the bar and her family, showed us her scrapbook of her family basically growing up in the bar and the buildings around the area and we ended up staying for a good hour-ish or so talking with her and her brothers. It was a very cool experience!

Not only that, my husband had money on the bar ($25) that was apparently under the scrapbook she was showing us, so as we were about to leave the parking lot, she came out to tell us she found it under the scrapbook after we had already left her a tip, so we gave her even more for her honesty!

It pays to be kind!

If you want to go to the smelliest, hoarder owned, 2nd worst dive bar in WI with lots of history, this is the place.
Only order canned products..nothing that comes in a glass!!

Words cannot explain the uniqueness of this place! I think someone could sit at the front door and charge admission. The place is unreal. I have no idea how they have ever passed a health inspection. Fruit fly poison lines the bar - probably close to 100 little bottles. To be honest, the place is gross. What is absolutely astonishing though, is that it has been open and running for so many years and still attracts customers. I think it has become almost a tourist destination. You will never see anything like it again. Promise!

This place is a dump, it's falling apart and when the ceiling caves in everyone in it will be dead or suing the owner. It's unbelievable this place is still open and not shut down, another thing that gets me, people LOVE it here, they actually go to this place lol. Not me!!!
