My husband and I were visiting from out of town and stopped here. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It seemed like they all genuinely enjoyed their job. We got a ton of food for a really good price. The ribs were some of the best I've ever had - they were super flavorful and incredibly tender. I'd also recommend the cheesy corn. Everything was delicious!
I liked the food a lot (brisket Mac, brisket platter) but half the menu wasn’t available, even basics like pulled pork and pulled chicken. They ran out of straws too.
Unfortunately a Hipster joint.Staff was decently polite (the staffs kindness is the only thing keeping this review above a 1 star), but:"Open faced sandwich", "cocktails" and spicy everything, doesn't make an establishment good. The sandwiches aren't "a la carte", it's just a sandwich (and I'm literate in French, but this verbiage just comes off as pretentious regarding the local community). The pulled pork was bland (compensated for by all the spicy condiments), the mac and cheese was ok but over peppered, and the slaw was basically run of the mill with no flavour. All the sauces available were spicy, they said they were out of all non spicy sauce. The bread served with the platter (open faced sandwich) was inedible because it was too flimsy to hold the contents. One staff member was kind enough to give me a regular bun upon request. The place was basically dead during prime lunch hours. Unfortunately it's not worth the price for the food; I didn't even have the drive to finish the meal.Honestly this place should be avoided until they get their act together and realize they are running a barbecue restaurant and not a wine bar.Sorry.
I have a pretty high standard for pulled pork due to cooking at the hickory house for a year. With that being said they did a great job. I got a pulled pork sandwich potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad wasn’t for me, but I think that’s just my taste not lack of quality by any means. Baked beans were great. No complaints.
Someone in this place cares! Have to respect slow cooking process which people don’t get to see. Hours and dedication. Super delicious and actually super fast service. My lunch order took 3 min. Great friendly staff, and the food speaks for it self. Highly recommend.Superb!P.S Good selection of beers + Full Bar if you naughty.
We visited here on March 4, 2023. On the plus side, we loved the vibe, the decor, and the music playing. I also thought my brisket was delicious, however it was lukewarm at best. On the "very much needs improvement" side, my sides (beans and jambalaya) were near cold and looked 2 days old. After a few bites I was done. There was no ice in the fountain coke machine and their sauce containers were empty. This place has great potential, but they need more focus on quality.
Happened to stop at Woodburn Shanks for some BBQ before a show on Tuesday evening. Though they were out of a few meats (brisket, ribs), the staff recommended a BBQ plate with half chicken, sausage and burnt ends. We had generous portions and the food was delicious. Really enjoyed the chicken. For sides, the fries were crispy and well seasoned. The brisket chili was on the salty side for me. All in all, I'd love to come back and try the other meats.
Conveniently located near I-68 and a gas station, if you need to fuel up in more ways than one. There are physical and digital menus to use, with a QR code to scan for the digital version. Some of the tables have a QR code on them for convenience. You order at the front counter and then pick up your food at the back counter. Sodas and sauces are self-serve. Customers are encouraged to clear their own tables when finished and there are black dishwasher bins across from the soda fountain. Prices are reasonable and the food is pretty good.
Stopped by for lunch first time here. I got to say it’s dang good had the half rib plate with gumbo and red beans and rice everything was delicious definitely will be back
Stopped by 6pm on a Friday. You never know what is left at a BBQ joint, but they had almost everything in stock. Ordered two brisket meals. Brisket was delicious as usual. Onion rings was also good. I like their variety of sauces and you can help yourself to any of them you choose. Definitely my favorite BBQ place in the local area. Order was ready to go really fast and staff was very friendly and informative.

Today was my first time trying out Woodburn BBQ and I have to say it's one of the BEST BBQ places I've had yet! The staff is extremely friendly and they make you feel like you are welcome and they treat you like family. Very accepting of people who have service animals as well with my experience being there. There was a guy who came in with one and they even treated the service animal like family! Special shout out to the host/waitress, Kam, who greeted us at the counter when we walked in and helped us make our decision on what to eat. She was super kind and sweet. Special shout out to the cooks as well for making AH-MAZING food! I will definitely be back in the near future!
One star because my son thought the man cleaning up was nice. No stars for the food. Wings were so dry and overcooked they didn't even taste like chicken. Potato salad and baked beans were barely edible. Never been to Kansas City but I sure hope their BBQ doesn't taste like what we paid for. Don't waste your money.
Had the chicken platter with onion rings and baked potato. All of the food was cold and the onion rings were burnt. My first and only visit.
Saw great reviews for the place thought we would try it. Been looking for a good BBQ around. Very disappointed. My friend ordered the ribs nothing but fat and cold as soon as we picked it up. I understand ribs have fat on them but when it's literally 90% fat 10 % meat a problem. I order thr pulled pork and fries again it's cold. As soon as they yelled our name picked it up and dined in every thing was cold. Definitely not a go for next time. The only reason giving 2 stars is bc the friendliness of the staff.
Stopped in while in town and as a KC girl, I can honestly say I was impressed. It’s legit KC-style BBQ! Not only that- the meat was smoked that morning and they make their sides, dry rubs, and the delicious sweet and spicy KC BBQ sauce from scratch! They even stuff their own sausage here. Amazing food, tender meat. Don’t think twice- you have to try it out. Also, I heard they will be serving beer soon!
