Friends in Elkview, West Virginia (north of Charleston), invited my two sisters and myself to a unique pizza restaurant located in an isolated and beautiful country location. The pizzeria is one hour from their home.

We used GPG to find the place, but somehow went off in the wrong direction and eventually we found the place. Pizzas & Cream is directly on a country road. You’ll spot the owners farmhouse and to the right is the building where you order your pizzas, ice creams and drinks. Inside, you’ll place your order and when it’s ready you will pick it up and bring it to your picnic table. (There are many picnic tables but no inside seating). For this reason, Pizzas & Cream is only open when it’s warm enough to sit outside. In other words, the restaurant is closed during the winter months.

There were six of us, so we ordered four different pizzas. The people who invited me said they liked the Hawaiian pizzas, and one of my sisters and her husband ordered a pepperoni pizza. I ordered a Feta cheese and vegetable pizza.

Once my sister picked up the food at the window of the restaurant and walked it to our tables, shaded from the sun on a warm and humid June afternoon, we commenced to eat slice after slice.

An amusing and fun aspect of Pizzas & Cream are the 40 or so large free-range chickens roaming around the various tables and waiting for pieces of crust. They spent most of their time pecking for insects or worms, but I got the impression they were always well fed. I didn’t ask, but I’m sure some pizzas with chicken may be from this flock of birds.

Once we were happily satisfied and stuffed with our pizzas, we all ordered cups of homemade ice creams: butter pecan and blackberry. It was absolutely the most delicious butter pecan ice cream I have ever in my life enjoyed. There were large chunks of pecans and gobbling the creamy desert was a refreshing and delightfully memorable experience.

Pizzas & Cream opens daily at 4:00 PM. No credit cards are accepted; cash or checks only. You will be glad you went out of your way to eat here. The drive is among beautiful green trees and rocky cliffs. Occasionally you will pass a creek or stream, one of which is off the road at the entrance to Pizzas & Cream. There is plenty of parking, and the outside dining area is illuminated at night time until closing time.

This little pizza place is truly in the middle of nowhere, but it was close to our cabin (thank goodness!) It's a tiny spot, so it's easy to miss. Everyone was very friendly and patient as we decided what all we wanted. The pizza tasted great!! My kids got to watch them cook the pizza through the window. They thought that was neat. We didn't try the ice cream, but we did get Italian Ice. The strawberry had amazing flavor!!

My son convinced me to stop. I was hesitant to go down the little country road but once we found the place, met the owner, and smelled the pizza, we were sold. Some of the best crust I've ever had. The ice cream and Italian ice were A+! Not only is Pizza & Cream worth the stop, but it's a destination! Or could/should be.

Decent pizza however crust is very thin , and toppings are put on sparingly. only 1 size and very pricey!!!! Not worth the money but with such limited resources if you want pizza this is your only choice other than driving an hour +
Also the gentleman who is the owner could work on his manners …. He’s been very rude at times and Iv heard him be rude to other customers and his staff. Over all on a 1-10 scale they are a solid 4

Great eat after Rails to Trails in Clay County. The owner and employees were very kind & welcoming. The owner started a fire for us ? We loved our pizza’s and homemade ice cream. I’ve been to Italy twice & his pizza tastes just like I was in beautiful Italy. I wish there was a location in Charleston...

No photos of the pizzas because they were consumed so quickly ?

* cash only * & I recommend calling before to place your order

Kid-friendliness: Soccer balls were available & a yard to roam around. My niece enjoyed the chickens.

What a gem- we were looking for a bite to eat after riding Rail Explorers. Their pizza is so good- and the staff was amazing, very friendly and attention is given to make sure it’s cooked just right. And their homemade peach cobbler ice cream was to die for. We travel a lot and are ice cream snobs and this is definitely in our top 3 (if not #1). Definitely worth the drive

This is the best pizza around .reminds me of the hot brick oven pizza from NY and NJ. Ingredients are fresh and the staff are very friendly. The seating g is outdoors so in nice weather it is enjoyable. You won't go wrong by getting your "Pie" here!!

What a lovely little place off the beaten path! A little pricey but well worth the costs as everything is made right there on the premises, including a small garden that my tomatoes and basil came from. I actually watched the chef pick the items. I had a four cheese tomato and basil pizza, my husband a spicy one, and a friend of ours got a meat, I can't remember the names of them, but they were so fresh and delicious. They have an actual brick oven that they're making these in and it's that perfect blend of fire kissed flavor and the handmade dough. They even have homemade ice cream, gelato, and italian ice, so flavors may vary from season, I had the peach cobbler and there were fresh peaches and bits of actual cobbler. Again, pricey, but so worth it! I think a lot of people call ahead for take out as there is not a place to sit inside, nor are there any public restrooms. There are some picnic tables outside but nowhere to get out of inclement weather, as we were eating in the rain. Not too bad as it was a much needed summer rain so it was a bit refreshing to sit and enjoy the atmoshpere and all the friendly free ranged chickens.

Outside they, again, have several sweet chickens that enjoy a treat as well. They were very friendly and sweet natured, even the roosters. They also have the sweetest orange cat that loves pets and attention. All in all a very sweet place that's a little hidden treasure in our state. I myself use a cane, most days, and didn't have any issues walking on the path up to the the actual building, but I could see it maybe being a bit difficult if I had to have used my wheelchair. Be sure to use GPS, if you've never been or are unfamiliar with the area, as it really is hidden but a gem nonetheless. Enjoy!

We went in and we were only the second customer of the day and the guy running the front was so rude and smarted off and snapped when we asked a question

At first, I thought the price was a little steep for the pizza, but the flavor and crust are way different than something from a big chain. Delicious. Pecan ice cream was delicious. The chickens were great company. Thank you to the whole team for being here in this area!

The pizza was delicioso! We got a couple different kinds of pizza among them one with fresh heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil, which they picked out of their garden right before they made our pizza. We watched the girl come out with a basket to pick the items for our pizza. It was so neat and talk about fresh! So yummy!! We also had the salted caramel gelato amazed by the taste and quality. Love this place!!!!!
