Short Story is a unique brewery/ restaurant in Marion County. Situated in one of West Virginia's many picturesque hollers, you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for a pole barn.
Inside, there is little to disabuse you of that notion, but that doesn't mean the space is uncomfortable. On the contrary, it's quite pleasant. They also have a great outdoor seating area in the warmer months.
The food is quite good and the beer is excellent. Stop in and enjoy!
Nice brewery, great beer selection, and food. Lots of room inside. Worth a visit!
Tucked between Fairmont and Morgantown, the original Short Story Brewing location offers a lively yet laid-back bar scene with true farm brewery vibes—complete with a pasture of cows next door. There’s tons of space both inside and out, and parking is easy, making it perfect for medium to large groups.
The beer list is extensive and creative. Fun with Prisms was a standout—a bright, lactose-free sour conditioned on mango and pineapple purée. We also loved Strange Notion, a rich coconut stout with chocolate, cinnamon, and just the right kick of habanero. Great brews, great space—definitely worth the stop.
Ordered first, paid last, and didn’t get my food. I tried to be patient with the chaotic ordering at the bar, and for 20 minutes after the rest of my party got their food, but ended up with a refund (minus their tip), and an empty stomach. Usually I’ll try a place twice, but this is one and done. What’s criminal is that it wasn’t even busy. No sorries, just crickets after. Good luck.
Not a large collection of drinks or food but a nice atmosphere with a large shaded outdoor area. Nice for families.
This is the first time I’ve ever been to short story brewing and I’ve clearly been missing out. We came for live music, but the bartender is KILLING IT!!! She has a packed house but isn’t missing a beat .. our beers stay full, our food was hot and delicious, and she barely looks like she’s sweating. She is handling a full house like an absolute champion. Kudos to this girl for single handedly keeping the restaurant flowing… I’m not sure her name, but it’s Saturday, 11/23
Great beer, great food, and even greater atmosphere! It's a quaint l, homey place you want to frequent often.
Good quick meal and decent beers. Very cool vibe with several choices to sit and hang.
Love short story brewing and the owners too! Been to the original one a couple times! Such a cool vibe and the beer is amazing! So excited they opened a new location in Morgantown and can’t wait to get down and see it too!
I’ve checked out Short Story Brewing in Rivesville, Charleston, and now their (new!!!) Morgantown location, and I’m consistently impressed. The friendly staff, diverse craft beer selection, creative and tasty food, and the artsy/inspiring, relaxing atmosphere are always top-notch. The new Morgantown spot offers something for everyone—whether you’re dining with family & the kids, enjoying a date night overlooking the water, hosting an event, or just chatting at the bar with locals. It’s fantastic to see Short Story Brewing expand to Morgantown!

Bad service & bad management. Following waiting almost two hours of waiting on service, after multiple attempts to correct the situation, the bill was ‘comped’. I’m not sure why the bill was ‘comped’ for something that was not provided. Told to ‘get the *uck out when I asked why I was being comped for something never provided. Good luck!
Got to Short Story Brewing and the beer I wanted was no longer available. I ordered another and it was OK. My friend and his family showed up and ordered several burgers. I ordered a chicken salad and waffle fries 10 min after their order. I received my order but they had forgotten the chicken on my salad. I ate my meal and my friends still had not received their burgers. After 45 minutes my friend asked where his food was and was told by an employee, "it's on its way." A half hour later, they still had not received their food, so they asked again getting the same reply. 2 hours after not receiving their food they decided to cancel their order and were meet with an unappreciated staff that argued with them. The owner came out and was unprofessional, not helping fix the problem. l saw him mocking my friends and laughing about them to other customers. 2 minutes later I saw the owner drinking beers with other customers. We decided to leave and heard multiple complaints from customers who had ordered food and then heard staff say that it would be an hour and a half wait for all food orders. Short Story Brewing is very unprofessional, disrespectful to clientele and unresponsive to fixing their mess ups. Also, I noticed multiple tables with one customer taking up multiple seats, "holding them," for friends while not ordering drinks or food. Poor business practices by owner with unexperienced staff. I do not expect this place to stay open much longer.
Anna is one of the most friendly people I’ve met in this area. The brewery was recommended by several. It is the place to stop for a delicious craft beer.
100% worth the 30-minute drive from Morgantown. Will likely make the drive even after they open their Morgantown town location on the Mon River. The covered deck is a nice place to enjoy a pint and some good food, but the bar is where you make the true connections. Cheers!
this brewery sports a gorgeous location by a farm and a well-thought out interior. the prime feature is a back patio with a well-manicured grassy area, a fire pit, and ample seating in any chairs of every kind. the space is very cozy, with a stunning view of rolling hills and local wildlife (birds and cows from the local farm, although i bet you can spot a deer on a good day). it’s a peaceful spot with an excellent beer selection. the patio itself has heaters and loaner blankets for those who want to enjoy the views on a cooler day.
we went around sunday brunch time, and the place was pretty much empty. i ordered a hot hoagie with fries. the hoagie was gargantuan in both size and flavor, and paired excellently with the rhubarb sour. the cheese was melted to perfection; the bun, perfectly soft with a light toast to it. the fries were well-seasoned.
the brewery supports a plethora of opportunities for enjoyment of oneself and of good company. you can easily bring a board game or a book here and have a merry time. there is cornhole outside, and a working retro pinball machine on the balcony indoors.
no doubt, Short Story Brewing will have my business for weekends to come.
