Not good, I got the stuffed chicken on penne pasta with marinara sause. This dish was so bland. No seasoning at all, the sauce was very watery. My fiance got the filet, with shrimp. The filet had no seasoning but pepper. For the price I was hoping the food would taste a lot better.

We visited Angela’s on the River at 6pm on a Wednesday to celebrate our 8th anniversary (our first time!). A gentleman greeted us at the door, offered thoughtful service, and seated us in a bright room with a wonderful view of the Coal River—a highlight of the night. Dress code seems relaxed; my casual attire was perfectly acceptable. Parking is across the street, but there’s a spot to drop off your hot date (or your mom) first.
The special was advertised as halibut and flounder—baked or fried. I wanted baked halibut blackened and baked shrimp blackened, and she wanted fried flounder with fried shrimp. Our waitress was prompt with drinks, but it took longer than expected to take our order. Unfortunately, the kitchen could only prepare fried halibut and baked flounder, and they weren’t able to do any blackening, so we had to settle. The fried halibut was the tastier option, while the flounder, though dense and meaty, lacked seasoning and wasn’t blackened as requested.
We were disappointed by the portion of just two small rolls, but they were tasty (and they did give us 2 more). The scalloped potatoes were chunky in cheese sauce—not like any scalloped potatoes I’ve seen before—and just okay. Sides like Italian green beans were also just okay, and one of our sides (fries) was missing and never arrived. The tartar sauce had an unexpected thousand island flavor, but was enjoyable.
We also noticed the neighboring table ordered fried flounder and didn’t seem to be informed that it had to be baked instead—something that could lead to confusion for other diners.
Staff appeared young and doing their best, but the overall service met only basic expectations—except for the standout welcome from the gentleman at the entrance. The value was reasonable ($36 for two, with shrimp at no extra charge).
The atmosphere is enhanced by beautiful water color paintings of riverboats that you might see on the Kanawha River shoving barges, available for purchase. In summary: come for the view and approachable staff, but temper expectations regarding food consistency and kitchen flexibility. We’d consider returning to try regular menu items in hopes of a better showing.

Food was not bad. Ordered 3 soft drinks with 2 not tasting right so switched to water after taking a sip of each but still was charged for one of them. Service was fine. However, waitress did not seem familiar with menu. Workers should be dressed better and should have some sort of dress code as some looked extremely unprofessional in random tshirts, especially for the kind of atmosphere this place tries to give. Have no plans to return.

Angela’s on the River is an absolute gem! The seafood specials and cobbler is delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed with stunning river views, and the service is warm and welcoming. Whether you're craving crab cakes, shrimp, or a hearty seafood pasta, Angela’s delivers a delicious and memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!

First time trying and will definitely be the last. My son chose Angela’s for his after graduation dinner after reviewing the menu. We had a party of 7 total but separated checks 4/3. Waitress took our drink order walked away and we didn’t see her again for 20 minutes. At which time I placed an order for 2 appetizers, Buffalo shrimp and the crab dip, which ultimately was the only good and flavorful food of our entire meal. My son ordered Angela’s filet ($30) medium rare and received a medium well filet with baked macaroni and cheese and the noodles were overcooked and was the consistency of baby food and Italian green beans which he said were ok. I ordered a salad with ranch dressing and the dressing tasted like dill seasoning and Chicken Parm ($18) and the chicken was burnt and the marinara sauce was overly bland. My other son ordered Spinach stuffed chicken and a salad. Once again the noodles in this dish were overcooked and the chicken was bland($16). My niece ordered the fried jumbo shrimp ($18) which were good sized shrimp but had zero flavor, mashed potatoes and corn. The other party of three that were with us was underwhelmed as well with their food options and service. I asked for A1 sauce and that took 15 minutes to get and I had to ask for a basket of rolls which she forgot and I had to remind her and then thereafter took 15 minutes to get. Gratuity was added to my bill which she made me aware of at the time of handing my bill. I paid with a card at which time when reviewing my bill had to inquire about the added charges because I paid with a card. I don’t leave reviews let alone a bad review, but I feel like with the prices of the food at this so called fancy restaurant, I had to voice my (our) opinion so as to warn folks that the old saying you get what you pay for does NOT apply in this case.
The food was great and the service was fast.
Quaint old house. The fried food was fried not greasy. If it is supposed to be spicy it is. Every dish we had was excellent. Service was timed perfectly. Nothing to complain about.

Had a great time, food was delicious, staff were so helpful and sweet. Will be back!
We dined here yesterday evening as a large party for a birthday dinner. It was mine & my sister’s first time here. Service was meh, food took forever to come out, & the women’s bathroom downstairs smelled horrendous. The calamari, chicken livers, & spaghetti were good; everything else had a strange taste to it. Other party members said the cabbage soup was not good & neither was the gravy for the baked steak- they said it tasted ‘spoiled.’ My dad’s cajun chicken pasta was watery. The mac & cheese was simply disgusting- no one at the table liked it, including my 2 yr old who will literally eat anything (he cried when he took a bite- that’s bad). Needless to say, we will not be back.
Service was good, food was awful. I could have gotten better food from a buffet
we had dinner there tonight an the food an service was amazing! will definitely be back soon!
Food was ok, it may have been better if it was warm, service seemed random. The staff and kitchen were probably overwhelmed by the large party taking place.
