Great for a Cozy Evening — Especially for That Elk Bolognese! 🍝❄️
As someone who has been a business owner in this community for nearly 15 years, including owning a restaurant, I understand just how much effort goes into creating a great dining experience — especially at a resort like Grand Targhee. We also work closely with a few members of the team there, and I’m grateful for those relationships and the work they do.
That’s why I want to share this review with care — not to criticize, but to offer an honest and helpful snapshot of what to expect at the Powder Cache Bar & Grill.
We held our holiday team party there recently, and it was a beautiful setting for a winter celebration. The space is elegant yet cozy, with great ambiance — perfect for winding down after a day on the slopes or celebrating with a group. If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a slower-paced, sit-down dinner, Powder Cache fits the bill.
That said, I probably wouldn’t recommend it for lunch during the middle of a ski day, especially if you’ve got a lift pass and are trying to maximize mountain time. The dining experience is more refined and leisurely — which is great when that’s what you’re after, just maybe not mid-ski.
Here’s what we ordered:
• Appetizers: two orders of the sesame wings (one naked, one with sauce) and two poutines
• Main entrée: the unforgettable elk Bolognese
• Drinks: cocktails and wine
Timing-wise, appetizers took about 45 minutes, entrées followed around 40–45 minutes later, and drinks took about 20 minutes, as the bar also serves guests at the walk-up window.
The sesame wings were flavorful, especially with the sauce (though a spicy buffalo option would be a great addition). The poutine, which was recommended by our server, came out cold — even though it was served in a cast-iron dish — so it didn’t quite land for our group.
But let me be clear: the elk Bolognese was worth every second of the wait. So rich, so satisfying, and so full of flavor. I ended up taking home a container and loved it just as much the next day. Honestly, I’d return for that dish alone.
In summary: Powder Cache Bar & Grill is a great choice for an elevated, slower-paced dinner in a beautiful setting. Just keep the timing in mind and plan accordingly. I’m grateful for the experience and would definitely go back — especially for that elk Bolognese!

I wish I could give this restaurant 5 stars across the board. My husband and I went for Thanksgiving dinner...the food was INCREDIBLE!!! I wish I knew the name of the chef so I could give a shout-out...honestly, every single bit of the meal was over the top FANTASTIC!!!
However, the music was horrendous! The meal was not the fine dining experience it should have been because the music was so frenetic and invasive. My husband and I were told that the manager did not have permission to change the music. Thankfully, she did turn it down for us which we were grateful for, but every time the kitchen door opened, we could hear the same frenetic music. I get that with your vibe, you likely aren't going to play Frank Sinatra and the like, but how about Chris Stapleton and others like him...at least something melodic?
We live in the valley and would love to come back for another great meal, but before heading back, we will call ahead and ask what music will be playing...if it's what it was over Thanksgiving, we'll have to pass which is a real shame because the food is so, so, so AMAZING!

Powder Cache Bar & Grill is a great spot to relax after a day out. I tried the carrot soup and Cache wings—both were delicious and full of flavor. The staff was very nice and even took our last-minute order, which I really appreciated. The ambience is cozy with a nice mountain vibe. A perfect place to chill and enjoy a warm meal!

Loves it thank u again loves it so much
Needless attitude by waitress. Manager confused on where to sit us when the restaurant was 95% empty to only be 75% full in less than 45 minutes (does it really matter?) Brussels sprouts were amazing, however, only in the lunch menu which ends sharply at 3 or 4pm.Overall… overly stuffy and frankly uncomfortable given the size and feel of this resort. It’s not THAT nice… chill and let people relax.

Great food and service even when they are really busy.
The people and service are great! The problem is the quality of the food. They have all of the right things on the menu, but every item we tried was just not there when it came to the taste and quality.Hopefully this improves as options are limited up in the hill. As of right now, I’d stick with the Trap Bar.

Great food, drinks, and vibe. Servers are real and Sunday football was everywhere. Go! You’ll have a blast.
