I really wanted to like The Wooden Derrick Café, but my experience was disappointing. For a newer place, the atmosphere felt dingy and musky, with décor that came across more tacky than charming and the overall space didn’t feel very clean.
The food was the biggest letdown. The sausage was overcooked to the point of being tough, and the steak came out grey, with no flavor or sear you’d expect. Due to other great reviews, I expected better quality and presentation.
Unfortunately, between the uninviting environment and poorly prepared food, I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.

The food is still great but the service took a hit when they changed locations. Used to be able to stop in on a lunch break but they are way too slow now for that. My wife had to leave before the food came out after waiting 40 minutes for a sandwich and some eggs, sausage and toast.

Love the new, larger location! The owner is attentive and the food is amazing. If I could give the turnovers 6 stars, I would. We shared two with our table after brunch on Sunday, and both the apple and lemon were incredible. Going to the Derrick is quickly becoming a family tradition when guests visit from out of town.
