“Korean sushi place on Edmonds. Parking is available inside the strip mall lot, as well as on the side streets. Place looks pretty bright and cozy. Staff are friendly and quick. The chirashi don I had definitely scores points on the presentation (cute little wooden basket). However, the portion size is definitely on the small side. Besides an ebi prawn, this dish also comes with a peeled whole prawn. I was able to gaze into its eyes while devouring its body. Ingredients were nice and fresh. Salmon, tuna, snapper, mackerel, surf clam, octopus, tobiko, ikura, and some other bits and a nice chrysanthemum flower. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try their other stuff.“

“I had the Deluxe Chirashi Don which came out with huge portions of fresh sashimi. Their sashimi is high quality and delicious. Uni and Toro were my favourite! All the nigiri and rolls were amazing, with perfect ratio of rice to sashimi/ingredients. Fried salmon sticks were so tasty. The service was outstanding, the servers were so friendly and attentive. This place will be my go-to if I want fresh and delicious sushi.“

“This place is so good that I want to gatekeep it… but a girls gotta share!! As students, this is literally our new favourite sushi place in all of the greater Vancouver area. We’ve tried an assortment of rolls and they’ve all been absolutely out of this world delicious!! Not only is Salmon Wave affordable, the staff are SO lovely and the hours are incredible (especially for students in the area… it’s a great place to study or fulfil evening cravings!!) I’d easily recommend salmon wave to anyone!! ???Pictured is the volcano roll, the French kiss roll, the baked salmon roll, and two cups of heart warming miso soup :)“

“This place has EXCELLENT, fresh food and the staff were SO friendly! The reason why I gave 4 stars for atmosphere is that the seating area is very small (but CUTE!) and so you may not be able to plan to be seated when you go. We had takeout and it worked very well. Would definitely go again! I order the salmon oshi and it’s probably the best tasting dish out there! Loved it!“

“First time at sushi box, very impressed. The sushi is fresh and tastes awesome. Got the tiger roll, spicy sashimi, Alaska roll, and a few pieces of nigiri which was packed with tons of flavour can tell fish is fresh and high quality. Amount of food and quality was worth it for its price. Service and atmosphere was great!“

“Very friendly host and people working here. We ordered Sashimi delux and sushi delux. Sashimi is fresh, sushi is with the right amount of rice while you can taste the sashimi on top. Nice Friday dinner with family here, will definitely come back!“

“Great place for sushi! My wife and I have visited here three times and enjoyed our meals very much.My wife loves the mixed veggie rolls and yam tempura roll. She likes the way the yam remains hot and crispy in the roll.I have tried Grouse Mountain and Maple rolls which kinda looked and taste the same. They were both awesome. The crunchy crumbs sprinkled on top of the rolls complement the softness of the fish and give it a more pleasant bite :)))I had also tried Kastsu don here but it didn’t live up to my expectations. So I strongly suggest their sushi not Katsu.Kid-friendliness: The staff has been kind and warm to us in all of our visits.“

“Must have been here a 50 times over the last 10 years. It’s our all time go to favourite sushi restaurant in the Burnaby. Volcano roll, Holdon roll and Las Vegas roll are always a crowd pleaser in our house hold. The owner (I think) is the collector of actions figure, so lots of displays around this mini but cozy place.“

“This place makes the food just right! Great service, great quality food, even their Boba is better than specialized boba store. The restaurant is spacious with private booth, works well for either a casual date or a big party gathering. Their washroom is also very clean. You get free 2 hour parking as well. What else can you ask for!Parking: Free 2 hour parking“

“Phenomenal!... I have eaten at o-Sushi-ya all over the world. Tokyo, New York, Honolulu, San Francisco; and outside of Japan, this is the best. From the briny ponzu kissed Miyagi oysters to the rich and deep-nuanced Chawan-mushi to the creamy smooth Yamaimo drizzled Maguro to the perfectly done butter-soy grilled fresh local squid - all were the best I have had. Then to finish, the matcha, fruit, lychee kanten and ahn parfait was light, sweet perfection.“

“Kilala offers super fresh sushi at reasonable prices. Eat in is nothing fancy and service is very polite reminiscent of my time in Japan. There is maybe 2 parking spots available in a very tight awkward underground parking (best to find street parking). The japanese creme caramel is a must try if they have it available.“

“Good bowl of ramen! Great soup and perfect meat. Portion is a bit small but that's just personal appetite. Parking is annoying as you need to scan and pay online, but then diamond parking system double charges you.. no fault if the restaurant though.“

“Simple place, good food and reasonably priced. Presentation is great but taste good as well. Service was fast too. There are so many choices which are unique. Not a typical Japanese restaurant. Our favorite is the salmon tartare, salmon carpaccio and club salmon poke. We tried the aburi salmon shikoya - salmon with zucchini roll, its just okay for us but not outstanding. Will definitely come back again to try the other dishes.“

“A cut above AND great value! Stopped in here for dinner because we were in the neighbourhood -kind of a random pick. Their take on dishes common all over the city was consistently unique and subtly complex. We will make a point of going back.Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. I always like to see an umeshiso roll on the menu (not every Japanese/sushi restaurant has it) and theirs did not disappoint“

“This is a restaurant that I would like to evaluate as fusion Japanese food rather than authentic Japanese food. The price is a bit high, but the overall taste and quality of the food is good. When I visited, I saw that most tables were eating cream pasta, so I ordered it and it was delicious. In the case of Yuza Chashu Ohsi, the taste of yuzu at the end balances out the greasiness of the pork.In the case of Spicy Tuna Ohsi, red pepper paste sauce was used to reduce the greasy taste of the tuna, but it would have been more delicious if the red pepper paste tasted a little less.Overall delicious food!“

“A Gem Tucked Away in BurnabyThis past Friday night, I stumbled upon a hidden gem in Burnaby: Makoto, a charming little Japanese restaurant with a warm, family-run atmosphere. Stepping inside, the decor was unpretentious, focusing on clean lines and a comfortable ambiance. It became immediately clear that the focus here was purely on the food.Despite being a two-person operation, the service was surprisingly swift. The husband, who skillfully doubled as both bus boy and server, was incredibly efficient. While the wife worked her magic in the kitchen, he expertly handled the floor, his genuine warmth adding to the homey feel of the restaurant. Now, onto the star of the show: the food! I started with the agedashi tofu, a classic Japanese dish that can be a true test of a restaurant's skill. Makoto's rendition was nothing short of delightful. The tofu was perfectly cooked, achieving that delicate balance between soft and firm. The light, flavorful dashi broth it was bathed in was a symphony of umami, and the accompanying crisp panko crumbs added a delightful textural contrast.Next up were the crispy California rolls. I have to say, these are a must-try for any California roll enthusiast. The seaweed salad (a delightful surprise!) added a touch of freshness and a delightful crunch, while the avocado and cucumber offered a cool counterpoint to the savoury crab meat. The true star, however, was the tempura batter — perfectly light and airy, it encased the ingredients without overwhelming them. Finally, I couldn't resist the ten tama don, a dish featuring plump shrimp tempura and a perfectly cooked, fluffy egg. Each spoonful was a delightful combination of textures and tastes, with the delicate sweetness of the egg and the savory pops of the shrimp. The entire meal was surprisingly affordable, which only added to the overall satisfaction. Makoto isn't a place where you go for fancy ambiance or a trendy scene. It's a place where you go for delicious, authentic Japanese food prepared with care and served with genuine hospitality. The husband-and-wife team at Makoto are clearly passionate about what they do, and it shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. I left feeling happy, content, and already planning my next visit. If you're looking for a hidden gem in Burnaby that offers fantastic Japanese food at a great price, Makoto is definitely worth checking out!“

“this is my favourite place to eat, ever. the sushi is always tasty, always super affordable, and I love the guy who works here! Super hard-working and friendly. They’re fast, cheap, and delicious. I would say ignore any mediocre reviews, try them once, and form your own opinions. But I highly recommend and think you’ll come back!“

“I love that the gomae comes as a roll. The spicy agadashi Tofu could be spicier, but the Tofu itself was bouncy and fun to eat like mochi if you're a texture person. The flavours for the garlic and jalapeño on the oushi were very intense. Black cod was delicate and tasty and tempura fantastic.“
