“Best Izakaya type restaurant hands down in Richmond.Must visit when in Richmond!Parking and LocationVery easy to find on No.3 Road. The parking is plentiful with the parking lot directly in front and back of the mall.AtmosphereExtremely great decor that is of a typical Izakaya eatery in Japan. Reminds me of Tokyo and some other in Japan. There is also a big screen TV for those who wants to watch sports. There are a few rooms for more private spaces but floor space is plenty.FoodThe food is excellent! From the uni sushi to sashimi, to the robata of beef tongue and chicken knee, everything taste excellent. There is a wide variety of choice in sake, both hot and cold. The beer is great, especially the Okinawan draft beer, which has a clean taste and goes down quite easy.ServiceThe best if all is the service. The owners, Glenda and Spencer, may also join you for a quick drink! Their hospitality is the best of the overall experience. It reminds I me of Izakaya places in Japan where the owner joins you in chatter and drink. Definitely a great experience overall.Geanbei Izakaya is highly recommended for both a place for excellent food as well as a place for a gathering. Will definitely visit again whenever I'm in town. I would say this is my local hangout whenever I'm in Richmond to see family and friends.“

“The fresh sashimi, grilled fish and boiled fish were also excellent. The staff and chef are all very pleasant, and the inside of the restaurant has a calm atmosphere. Two private rooms are also recommended for celebrations and gatherings with family and friends.“

“I haven't eaten meat here, but I've tried the sushi rolls, and they were simply magical. This place is one of the best ? to try sushi ?. By the way, the restaurant is closed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. We arrived there at 2:30 p.m., and they offered to prepare the rolls to go for us, and we received a 10% discount for it. The cost of those rolls you see in the photo was $80 including tips.“

“In the intimate confines of Chef Ray and his wife Christine's culinary haven, there exists a sanctuary of unparalleled mastery—a realm where every morsel bears the weight of cherished tradition and whispers of the passing seasons. “Food was fantastic as usual. Service was a bit slow even when it wasn't particularly busy. Atmosphere is awful when there are unruly kids as it seems to attract that type of parent. The parents seem to put the kids as far away from the adults (and there were plenty of empty tables. Takeout!Kid-friendliness: Kids can do whatever they please. They were running around when we were there. Staff didn't say anything.“

“Very good place for izakaya and sushi as they have a good variety of skewers, sushi rolls, appetizer, and some specialty dishes. The mentaiko rice was very flavorful, creamy and we would definitely order this again. The ton Ttoro and shiso chicken were juicy and had a nice charcoal taste. The beef tongue and chicken gizzard were good too, they had a hint of the charcoal fire taste and my wife liked them. The imperial roll was good as the salmon was fresh. The salmon was velvety soft and not like firm wlike when it's been on the fridge for too long.We also got the garlic butter clams as an additional dish because if we just ate skewers, our bill would have been huge. LolThe service was great. They came around and filled our tea so often that our cup was always full. Whenever we needed something, they were there. The food came out quick and when it got very busy, they did advise that the skewers may take longer as they can only make so many at a time. The parking lot isn't too big and it fills up quickly but we were lucky and got a spot right away.“

“Came with a large party and we all left very satisfied.Food quality is amazing. Fish is fresh and melts in your mouth. Presentation was also very appealing.Service was fantastic with a very attentive waitress. No cup remained empty and no empty dish was left on the table.Atmosphere was intimate and modern. Felt special with its location and tucked away entrance. Cleanliness was not an issue. The food and quality are leagues above Toronto’s selection.Would strongly recommend!감사합니다!“

“Finally after so many years I went to this restaurant, always pass by it and never got the chance to go try... Got the Yakisoba and teriyaki beef bento set today, came with California roll and a little salad on the side, portion was enough for a fat dude like me... all for about 17.00 including everything which is quite decent for prices now days... Atmosphere inside was quiet, clean and relaxed.. would definitely start going when back in Richmond..“

“The sushi at Tsukiji, while decent, did not quite live up to the standards set by other Japanese sushi houses I've visited. The flavors were somewhat lacking in depth, and the freshness of the ingredients was not as pronounced as I had hoped. The selection was adequate, but it didn't offer the wow factor that I was looking for in a sushi dining experience. The service at Tsukiji was average, neither exceptionally good nor bad. The staff were polite and attentive, but there wasn't a sense of warmth or personalized attention that can elevate a dining experience from ordinary to special. The efficiency of the service was commendable, but it lacked the personal touch that can make a restaurant stand out.Overall, I would rate my experience at Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant as a 5 out of 10. While it provides a satisfactory dining experience, it doesn't quite hit the mark in terms of the exceptional food quality and service that I seek in a Japanese sushi restaurant. It's a decent option for a casual meal, but it may not satisfy those looking for an authentic and outstanding sushi experience.“
“Great sushi spot in Richmond if you're willing to spend a few extra bucks! We ordered the following for two:- uni cream udon- volcano scallop roll- red n blue roll- hamachi sashimi (6 piece)- aburi sushi combo (2 orders)- ube puree ice cream (2 orders)- x1 beer for myselfEverything tasted great and the quantity was just enough for 2 people. The only item I wasn't a huge fan of was the uni cream udon, to me it just tasted like mac n cheese sauce on udon noodles...but it wasn't too bad.My favorite was the Red n Blue roll. It was fresh and delicious! ? I also enjoyed the ice cream dessert with the ube noodles thing on top of (matcha flavoured?) ice cream.Service was good as well. We got seats as soon as we walked in on a Friday night. Surprisingly this place wasn't busy on a Friday night, perhaps it was the price of their menu, but either way it worked out for us! Servers were attentive and friendly.Only con would be the location. Parking here is brutal during dinner time on weekends since it's located in a small lot.Overall I would recommend this place if you want some great quality sushi and other Japanese food and don't mind spending a little more...ok maybe a lot more ?.(full disclosure: we spent about $240 total with tip)“

“I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi don for lunch. The portion was huge that I couldn't even finish it. The meal was fresh and delicious, so good. It had the right amount of spicy and cucumbers. Service was quick, just how it should be for a lunch service.“

“Masa Ishibashi delivered a unique and beautiful experience. While the food, restaurant design, and beverages were all superior, it was the warm hospitality and outstanding service that made dining here the most special. The team members were all wonderful people and excellent Japanese cultural ambassadors. They nourished the body, soul, spirit, and all senses with a one of a kind dining experience. Bravo!“

“Otaru is in my neighbourhood and I invited my friend’s family (2 adults, 2 boys) to come join me for lunch on a school holiday (Monday Oct 2, 2023) . I walked in at 12 noon. There were 2 tables of customers before me, and 3 tables got the “reserved” sign. Luckily, we got seated at the larger table by the window. Their menu is impressively diverse, so many different items to choose from. We ordered sashimi, soba, a deluxe roll and a kids sushi plate to try a variety of things. We thought we might need to order more since we had 3 adults but we were actually quite full! I was impressed by how thick the sashimi slices were cut and they were all so tasty and fresh. That speaks quality! I also like the broccolis on the soba which had lots of beef! Will definitely recommend! ?⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Vegetarian options: Sushi rolls“

“Incredibly fast service. I ordered and within a minute the rolls were on my table. Super tasty food. Servers were nice. I am amazed how fast they are. I parked, walked in, sat down to eat dinner, ordered takeout, and left all within a span of 10 minutes. I’ve never experienced such quick service before. I’m impressed. They really respect customers time :) love it!“

“Favorite traditional sushi place in Richmond and value for dollar showcases it sheds the fancy nameplate for a very subdued and quality driven experience. The assorted sushi set at $38 (2024) showcases local and Japanese imported fish, fresh and well portioned for each piece to be eaten in one bite, non lock-jawing bite. The saba battera is a little different than other restaurants since it showcases much more redness and has a lot more fish flavor. Some may be a little overwhelmed so try if you truly like Saba :), but dive in if you love it.Other standouts are the ankimo and tako wasabi and their uni tasted really good too (not sandy nor bitter).I really enjoy the intimacy in which it feels to dine here. Run by the same couple for years, I hope to experience many more.“

“Amazing little hole in the wall that should be on "You Gotta Eat Here" or Triple Ds. Freaking AWESOME food! I went with my husband, son, and his buddy. We all loved every bite. I am a chef and find it difficult to enjoy meals in many restaurants but this one-man show is the real deal. It's hard work. If you are looking for a romantic posh quaint cafe where you will be gushed over by the staff, this isn't the place for you. If you want genuine home made excellent fresh food that you will never forget than give it a shot. Be prepared to wait. The gentleman who owns it also is the chef, host, server, and cashier. A genuine character. Every meal is made to order and well worth the wait. Not recommended for vegan.“

“Takeya Sushi is like a cross between a typical sushi joint, and a Japanese "Konbini" (the food section).? - They have a menu with a large selection of freshly made-to-order choices, consisting of sushi, curries, noodles, rice bowls, etc.❄️ - In their coolers, they carry ready-to-eat meals, desserts, snacks, drinks as well as more sushi, rice bowls, etc.?️ - The prices are very reasonable, Takeya has always been a more affordable option than other sushi restaurants around. No in-store seating, but there is a park nearby where food can be enjoyed in the hot summer months.“

“We had a lovely experience here. Although the restaurant was very busy, they could have benefited from perhaps adding one more server to the floor. It was very busy, for obvious reasons. Very good food, very pleasant staff, but a little bit on the slower side (regarding service) since they had so many tables to tend to. We appreciate the late business hours as we had a long day and wished to go out for some good food. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. Would recommend ?“

“Taking a page off Buzzfeed _Worth it_!Spicy salmon sashimi at 3 different price points:1. Banzai ($9.95)2. Sushi Gami (Full $16.95)3. Sushi Mura (Half $14.75)Taste: #2 and #3 had the same base - gochujang - while #1 is uniquely different, more like Indonesian/Malaysian spicy peanut/sesame.Texture: #2 and #3 are firmer than #1...indication of frozen fish for the latter.Portion: similar for all; note that #3 is half order.Worth it winner: Sushi Mura ??* For some who aren't fans of gochujang, Banzai for the win ??“

“Been wanting to try this place for awhile. Showed up early and it was a good thing because they fill up quickly and reservations would probably be recommended.I had been eyeing the Oo unagi hitsumabushi gozen set and they really delivered. It reminded me of the meals we had it Japan and there was so much unagi. Also tried the Shokado lunch set which included a mini assorted sashimi, assorted tempura, kobachi, chawan mushi, rice, miso soup and bbq fish.A bit out of the way but I'd definitely come back for that unagi.Update Apr 2024: Returned in April for a revisit and ordered the Edokko gozen as well as trying the Shokado gozen again.Things were good until we found a hard rock in the gomae. When we informed the staff about it, they took the cost off our bill.“
