“My wife, Sara, and I dined at The Proper last night. It was our first time there. I had very recently become aware of it on Yelp. We were treated very well by our server, Connor, and by another man, whose name we do not know. He probably was an assistant manager. We asked him about the history and the décor of the restaurant. He offered to have the owner stop by our table to answer questions he was more in a position to address. The owner, Rick, did come by and we had nice chat. Rick and his staff are terrific folks. And we really enjoyed the food. Sara had the chicken piccata and I had the jambalaya pasta. We enjoyed a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay and the warm butter toffee cake for dessert. It was an all-around terrific evening. Sara wants to try the miso salmon next time and I will probably order the blackened shrimp tacos. Another thing that’s a plus is that we don’t eat red meat or pork - we’re fish and fowl only – and there are many items on The Proper’s menu that we can eat. And we may elect to dine in the bar on our next visit, which is really cool and charming.“
“The baristas at Constellation really know their stuff! Coffee is consistently excellent. I've been going here for a few years and it's always a treat to start my day with a cappuccino, cortado, or grenade (pomegranate + coffee). Drinks are never too sweet either. Pour overs and espresso are always good as well - the beans are high quality and roasted to perfection. Seating inside is cozy and the staff are so friendly!“

“"I visited the bakery on a Sunday and was immediately greeted by Marjan, who welcomed us with great warmth. We were in search of a light, low-sugar cake and Marjan recommended a stunning saffron, pistachio, and rose petal cake that not only looked beautiful but also had an eclectic fragrance. She thoughtfully wrote a note on the cake and provided a candle, which was a nice touch. The environment was friendly, and the quality of the cake was outstanding. Highly recommend!"Parking: Great location.“

“Its a beautiful cosy place, takes you back in time. The cakes, as you can see in the video look delicious (didn't try one though). We had the lemon pancakes which were AMAZING, also the breakfast burrito which was really delicious as well and very filling. Their coffees were also flavourful and strong.Lastly, salmon with potato pancakes..which I personally didn't really like.. they had a funny taste.. quite soggy.. something about the salmon? Or the eggs? I didn't understand but unfortunately has a weird and not good taste.“

“This place was so popular and for a good reason. The Moo-Ping did not disappoint. The skewers were so tender with the right amount of fatty and lean meat and the seasoning was full of that Asian sweetness. The jade noodle (no soup) was delicious with the 3 different kinds of meat and the vegetables creating a wonderful medley of flavor. The crab curry had a wonderful creamy taste and a slight kick. Everything was amazing. Could not have asked for better Thai food.“

“I visited holy grail donuts today. And I'm telling you that it was great experience to enjoy good donuts. You can see how your donut is made and who makes your donuts in the store. It was so fresh and I've been never experienced this before. The vibe was cozy and comforting. Also staffs were super friendly. Strongly recommend. I wish donut shop like Holey Grail Donuts exists in my country too ;( Maybe little bit expensive but worth to try. You won't regret it.“

“I LOVE their coffee! It’s smooth, but with a good burst, not bitter at all. I walk 7 blocks early morning and get a big coffee there, then continue my long walk. I get a doughnut there 1x per/week on my off day from workouts. Yes, they’re everything. Love their “French cruller” doughnuts AND their hard shell pudding center doughnuts!!Vegetarian options: They have doughnuts made without eggs or milk.“

“The place is gorgeous, especially if you love a nice terrace. The food... Is it because it's the only middle Eastern gluten free place, or is it because the ingredients are fresh, or is it because the preparation is perfect, or maybe it's all the small details... I think it's all of the above, one of the best middle Eastern places in LA, and the best gluten free one :) enjoy their manahish!“

“If you're interested in trying popular Vietnamese entrees outside of pho, head over to Be U! This woman-owned eatery is located in a prime hipster Echo Park neighborhood, and to me, it's a perfect blend of my culture superimposed on Los Angeles's colorful cityscape. The menu ranges from homey comfort-food entrees to popular street bites, and some new-age fusion items as well. Atmosphere: 2/5 As a take-out-only restaurant located on Hoover Street, there's no seating and it faces traffic. If only there were some colorful plastic chairs (like the ones you see in SE Asia) - the vibes would be immaculate. However, you're either standing and eating or taking the food back to your home. Service: 3/5 Wasn't bad but wasn't warm or friendly either - service was okay Flavors: 5/5 Highly recommend: -Banh mi trung op la (banh mi with fried egg): homemade mushroom pate is delicious, it inspired me to make some at home. The egg was crispy to the heavens. -Rau ma juice: in English known as pennyworth, extremely refreshing, herbal, and will cool you down on a hot day. -Tofu goi cuon (spring rolls): The peanut sauce offered with this was so yummy! The spring rolls were super fresh and all the herbs complemented the flavors. Parking: 2/5 Street parking only, very limited Pricing: 3/5 Definitely not cheap for Vietnamese food, however, LA is a high-cost-of-living area so I understand that the owner needs to maintain overhead costs and pay her employees a fair wage! Expect to pay $4-5 higher than what you're used to paying in the OC/SJ/SGV. The reason why I rate it low is because the portions are significantly smaller than what you'd get at a traditional sit down Vietnamese restaurant Overall I recommend Be U if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese food outside of mainstream pho, but if you're willing to drive to SGV, Garden Grove/Westminster, you'll be truly immersed in the cuisine and culture“

“So excited and proud Sugarbird finally has a storefront. My family and I have followed Chef & Owner Kei since it first started and only had regular priority mail delivery and pickup from a co-op location in Downtown LA. I stopped by after the Montrose Farmers Market, where Sugarbird was before and I believe still is for other Farmers Markets, and Kei herself was managing the store. She was nice and really excited to finally have her own storefront. I got a free tea, free clotted cream, the tea sandwich set, six scones (ube, lemon blueberry, matcha, fig & rosemary, passionfruit & earl grey) and shortbread cookies.“

“I highly recommend Yvonne‘s vegan kitchen. Yvonne has some of the best desserts, breads, and pastries that you can’t find anywhere else. I literally drive from Orange County all the way out to Pasadena because her desserts and bread are so amazing. Yvonne goes above and beyond and she is a very kind-hearted Soul and I would not want to put my money into any other business. Yvonne made a special birthday pie for me years ago over six years ago and I still think about it to this day. That’s how amazing it was.Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten free friendly“

“One of my favorite eateries in the world. I’m from France and this is one of the few places that is as indulgent as home with their baked goods. They made me a beautiful birthday cake years ago despite an unusual flavor request. Their biscuit-bun burger is delicious and the terrace is an awesome cozy spot to hang out. A must try if you’re in the area!“

“I love this place. It's charming, it's delicious and a spot for locals to sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee. Parking is hard to find to be honest, at all times of day. I believe it's the locals who live close by that walk here that frequent Figaro. We were lucky enough to find parking on a Tuesday morning most recently. We ordered pasta, a hot chocolate and a coffee. My favorite time of day to eat here is evening. The inside of the bistro is gorgeous, and makes me feel like I'm in Paris. It's old and full of charm. The service is great, and we receive our orders fairly fast. Definitely check this place out, but Uber if you can.“

“First the customer recognition was great, also the food was perfect. That ham and grilled cheese sandwich was like what I like to eat. The flavor in the cheese was good, and the little bit of saltiness of the ham accompanies the cheese sharpness greatly! Will come back!“

“My son loves carrot cake, but he has always hated that many have raisins and pineapple. I live in Long Beach and I couldn’t find a local bakery that would exclude those two for him until I stumbled on The Shredded Carrot on Google. The Yelp reviews were really good and when I called the pleasant attendant said they could definitely exclude raisins and pineapple! I was delighted because I had called many places that said they couldn’t do that for us. I picked up my son’s cake yesterday and I was nervous because we had never had a cake from here. But man! Was it delicious! The Shredded Carrot went above and beyond with their service from my phone call to place the order, to the order promptness and taste! Worth the drive:)“

Both were extremely delicious. We had the Carmel Latte's. Unfortunately, I did not like their coffee, but for anyone who hasn't had a Latte from Starbucks. “NO CASH ACCEPTED HERE -- first thing to know if you're coming here A pretty, little cafe that serves beautiful sandwiches that are as great to eat as they are to look at. My friend and I both ordered our own sandwiches and they each came with a nice side salad. Both dishes came with VERY fresh ingredients and I've been craving to return since I first tried it Smoked salmon bahn mi - 10/10. It was so tasty even though it wasn't anything like what a traditional bahn mi is like. The lettuce and mint used in the sandwich were crunchy and super fresh and the pickled jalapeños used added a nice dimension to the sandwich Side salad - 8/10. I would have enjoyed it more but it was much too drenched with oil/lemon (not sure what they use here. It was good regardless but the dressing used was overwhelming)“

“I’ve been a diehard loyalist to the Arts District Pizzanista, and it’s still so odd to me that they opened one in sleepy San Marino, but no complaints from me! The slices are the same taste and quality as their AD counterpart, and the vibe is as chill as the area that it’s in. It’s a must for a casual lunch if you’re in the area.“

“Dropped by Tartine for a meeting/work session and to grab lunch. We came at the perfect time, no line, lots of tables and spaces (minimal outlets) but overall great place to grab a coffee or lunch and chat with a friend. We got salmon lox and a green goddess salad with chicken (which was cooked and seasoned perfectly) a simple spot with the focus on the quality of the food - which is outstanding.Vegetarian options: Salads, tartines, coffee/drink optionsDietary restrictions: Offers different plant based milks and salads“

“Cute brunch spot w unique things. Parking is annoying to find (just street parking), there was a wait, and tbh some service was kinda rude they have experimental dishes, but overall I think we ordered well and got good food! Seasonal Shaq ($19)- tbh, this tasted like tomato sauce in a pan for me but my friend really likes their shakshuka so maybe I'm unseasoned. Their bread is yummy and fun! Rainbow Toast ($15) - their viral toast, it was good! Brioche was fluffy with nice variety of jams. Think it's steeply priced so I feel like I could make this at home LOL but good to try once Classic Latke tot ($19) - crowd favorite, this was unique and really good! Superrrr crispy potato with a lovely balance of flavors (salty/briney roe, creamy creme fraiche, sweet jam) Just a little expensive for the portion but I'd get this again! Crispy works ($15) - also a favorite from us! Crispy rice was delicious with a really good balance of flavors. It's not heavy and this portion was also really good for the price, also would get this again! Instagram - @joangela.eats“

“I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Coffee For Sasquatch on our interview date. If you’ve adventured around the Hollywood area, you’d probably know that the Melrose/Fairfax and Hancock Park areas are home to an abundance of boutique style shops and café style restaurants. Smack dab in the middle of all of the excitement lies a cozy shop called Coffee For Sasquatch, so cozy that you could easily miss it unless you were actively looking for it. But when you finally step inside, you are not only greeted by the wonderful smell of freshly roasted coffee, but also welcomed by Sasquatch himself – well, a living plant wall of the hairy legend. Beautiful green plants give the shop a lovely contrast against its white, tan, and marbled interior while modern furniture designs is the whipped cream on top of the clean, sharp, visually appealing latte. The shop is perfectly laid out for reserved solo visitors and intimate conversations, but larger parties (4+) should consider arriving earlier or in the late afternoon as its popularity can make it difficult to find seating to suit your needs. What Coffee For Sasquatch may lack in size they make up for with their food and drink menu. Traditional comfort foods like sandwiches, quiches, and donuts (or for health-conscious folk, fonuts) are perfectly displayed in the glass case next to the register, and trust me, it’s pretty darn hard to turn down their mouth-watering seduction. Once you’ve decided to either give in to grabbing a snack or are strong enough to only order a coffee, your next difficult decision is what caffeinated beverage you will be sipping on. Their menu consists of a fun mix of classic coffee options (Matchas, Chais, Americanos, Cortados, Cappuccinos) and sweet lattes, which include a Nutella Latte, a Liverpool Tea Latte, and a colorful Cryptid Latte (Vanilla Latte with colored latte art). While I knew that I would be happy with pretty much anything on the menu, I was intrigued by their seasonal menu that included a Cardamom Latte. It was sweet, it was savory, it was creamy, it packed a punch on the caffeine aspect, and the latte art was absolutely adorable – everything that you could possibly want in a moderately priced cup of coffee!“

“Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon, sometime between lunch & dinner. Seated right away. Service was friendly but definitely slow. Also, their menus reflect cash prices so if you pay with a card they charge you more. Just pay your employees a livable wage???? Had the half lemon herb chicken - huge portion. The sides that came with the dish were wonderful, chicken was flavorful but also a bit difficult to eat. Inside & outside seating available, restroom was clean. There were quite a bit of flies hanging around inside the dining room. With all my complaints, the food was solid.“
