Superb. Food is top notch. Authentic, delicious with generous portions. We enjoyed the best Schnitzel- thin with just the right amount of breading. Sides included spaetzle, pan fried potatoes, red cabbage with perfect seasoning and a beautifully dressed fresh garden salad. The meal starts with their unique homemade bread and accompaniments
Staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and attentive.
Definitely a new favourite that we will return to regularly

Stopped in for lunch today and had the Käsespätzle, sourdough, and salad. Everything was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. It’s not often you find authentic German food like this, so it was a real treat.

The service was excellent, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the whole experience was fantastic. Easily some of the best food I’ve had in a long time.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked—crispy, golden, and packed with flavor without being greasy. You can tell everything is made with care and attention to detail. The portions were generous, the sides were authentic, and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming.

What really stood out was the service. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we enjoyed our meal. It’s not often you find a restaurant that delivers both incredible food and excellent hospitality.

Had a reservation for this tiny resto in Bragg Creek with only 6-7 tables. Dominic was our server and also the owner. He was attentive and friendly. We tried their rye bread with house made garlic butter and crunchy diced pork bits like chicharron which we throughly enjoyed as decadent start. We ordered the schnitzel weiner art and the beef cheeks in red wine sauce.

My gf and I shared both dishes. Although it was almost an hour wait for our meals, the food was piping hot and delicious! The potatoes were salted, the spaetzle was made fresh and not from a package, red cabbage had a perfect slight tartness. The schnitzel was huge and very tasty from being pounded super thin with a nice breading. The beef cheeks in red wine gravy was meltingly tender and savoury. I dipped my schnitzel into it. Overall, we had a quiet meal that was delicious and felt like home cooking. You can absolutely tell the love, care and quality they place into ingredients and presentation.

If you’re in the area, book ahead of time and enjoy a slow paced relaxed meal. This is not the place if you to be in/out in less than an hour. Our reservation was at 630, our food arrived at 735 and we left at 845pm.

There is ample parking here as they are located in the main plaza where we perused the shops before dinner. I would definitely return to try some other items on the menu. Also the bathrooms and decor are lovely and spotless. They treat the restaurant like it is their home and this value shines through.

Today was my 2nd time eating here the food is so wonderful and the taste is incredible,, oh y’a I ate here thé day before also and will be returning regularly,,, this is a comfortable place to relax and unwind.. 10/10 for me and my friends absolutely loved it…

We celebrated Mother’s Day today at Von Essen with a table of six and every single one of us had a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm, cozy and relaxed, almost like visiting friends for dinner in their home.

Every meal at the table was phenomenal. The food had that incredible homemade quality where you can truly taste the care and attention in every dish. Each bite somehow seemed even more delicious than the last.

The service was excellent and the attention to detail was outstanding without ever feeling rushed or formal. Just friendly, comfortable dining at its absolute best.

Von Essen is the kind of place you leave already looking forward to your next visit. Highly recommend! Reservations are advised.

It was 1:45pm, not exactly the busiest lunch period. We walked in and there were 3 tables with guests. Some are still waiting for their food. 2 small tables for 4 were available but the waitress only wanted us to sit at a high table for 2 after having consulted the manager. We were then told we will need to wait for an hour before getting anything to eat. A very effective way to suggest that we should leave. We came for lunch last year when it was opened only for a short time. I guess that became our last time as we don’t think we will come back again.

She then came back and said we would need to wait at least an hour for the food, and it was already 1:45 PM. This is just ridiculous.
