The best Mexican restaurant in Calgary! Sad to hear it is closing. However, being re-opened under the Native Tongues banner is good news as well. They are the best two in the city for sure.
We enjoyed our mail but COVID is still around. No sanitizer was available at entry. In washroom, auto water at sink did not work. I will not return until better COVID protection is available and better overall cleanliness nor will I recommend A1 Canina to a friend. Please advise when done to [email protected]. Thanks Tom
I love A1 Cantina and have been a regular since they opened. The A1 salad is one of my absolute favorites! Although the service is usually excellent, when I was in for dinner last night with some friends we were basically ignored by our server the entire time we were there, which was pretty unpleasant. I'll give it a break for a while before going back.
The food and drinks were so very delicious. My friend had a combination of the tacos & all were fabulous. I had the Carnita Asada which I loved. We shared the salsa tasting appetizer which would highly recommend as there is something for everyone. I had a Michelada....yummo! and a variety of margaritas. You won't be sorry.
This was our first time. Our server was wonderful. She moved us when we couldn't sit on totally uncomfortable chairs. This restaurant is in a high end area but it needs lots of tender loving care -big time! Chairs are so bad. Tables are so small. Perhaps we may use pickup as food was good Place would be better as a lunch spot as uncomfortable chairs & blasting music don't make for a relaxing evening experience or opportunity to visit with friends. We couldn't even hear our server!
Food and atmosphere was great. Our server was awesome, we were visiting and had the table all night. She never rushed us and checked on us regularly. It was a fun dinner, night out just what we were looking for.
We are regulars and think is an awesome restaurant. Just arrived back into Calgary so booked from airport a 8:30 reservation. When we arrived were told they were closing so had last call and needed to order right away - so everything felt very rushed. Recommendation is not to take reservations at a time against closing
Do not eat here. We made a reservation for 8pm. As soon as we arrived the staff told us multiple times last call was at 830. We were rushed through ordering, eating and paying. The food came out quick and was lukewarm and did not taste great. The waiter came to ask for payment before our plates were even cleared. Horrible service, bad food - don't eat here.
Foood is great here, service was excellent, located in a fun area near Village Ice Cream and Starbucks so You can really make a night of it. Great for families or a more casual date.
Not good. Service was terrible. The waitress seemed inconvenienced by questions and came across as very rude. Food was dry and tough. Some tacos had no seasoning nor flavour. The only good part was the margaritas.

As soon as we walked in we noticed the noise level as being quite high. Greeted pleasantly and seated right away. The drinks were interesting and tasty. The coconut pineapple one was really good and the Mezcal with smoked pineapple was also very good. The food was disappointing as it was tasteless. There needed to be more flavor and salsa in all the tacos we had and the corn tortillas weren't well prepared. I think they didn't grill them enough - seemed oily. We expected better flavors - more chilli, onion, tomatoes, garlic.
The food was amazing. I ordered for Tacos ( Beef and fish). The staff recommended the fish, it was deliciously so good! The side salad was great too. There were too many staff working, but I was the only one there. They were greeting, smiling and attentive. The restaurant was clean and orderly. The only thing I felt bad for were the hanging plants, some of them got neglected and died, the owner must have good intentions to put them there for aesthetic purposes but they forgot to water them. Everything seemed awesome but that. I recommend this place. Great food, great staff, great ambience. I was like taken to a Taqueria in Mexico for a moment. Good job
Lovely place to have an authentic Mexican lunch. Our waitress was lovely, explained everything out to us and was very careful to note the food allergies some of our group had. We all loved the tacos in particular the fish, Al Pastor and chicken. We loved the Margaritas but found them at bit expensive at $15 for lunch. The dessert cinnamon donuts were tasty and easily divisible amongst our group. We ate inside but there is also a lovely patio outside if you prefer. We would definitely go back again.
Tacos were good, the fish and mushroom were the favourites at the table. Classic Margarita was very good. Service wasn't great, we felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. We waited at least 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our table and took a drink order. After sitting for 20 minutes with empty drinks, we had to flag someone down to get our tab.
The food is well made, the service was a little inconsistent. Our server went above and beyond, there was a 20 minute delay getting our dessert and then they were unable to make it as described and made every effort to make sure we knew what happened and gave us what they could and a $20 gift card for our next visit. Margaritas were very good and with good ingredients, but at $15 dollars are a little pricey for a small drink
