“First timers in Calgary, on holiday from England. After scanning the area around our hotel for places to eat and drink we found The Prohibition Bar and decided to give it a go.
Well...we absolutely loved it and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
The atmosphere was great, we booked for 6pm so it was fairly quiet. Our server, Mitch, was absolutely fantastic, very friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely excited about some of the cocktails my wife was ordering.
Food wise, we had the Nonna's Meatballs and Spicy Mango Chicken Nachos...both were great.
Wonderful experience, so glad we did it !!!

“Dosirak (도시락) is the Korean word for a traditional lunchbox or packed meal, and this little restaurant truly feels like homemade Korean comfort food.

From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with genuine smiles and a relaxed, no-rush atmosphere. The menu has lots of choices, which can be a little overwhelming at first, but the owner is always happy to explain everything and make great recommendations.

The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and tastes like it was made with care. It's not overly salty or loaded with MSG and you can really taste the fresh, home-cooked quality in every bite.

For the price you pay, the quality of the food and the outstanding customer service are on another level.
It is located at 9737 Macleod Trail SW, in the same shopping plaza as Value Village, making it an easy place to find.

Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!”

The food is great, the service is good and the ambiance is great! This place has a bbq grill and it is on the expensive side, but in my view, it is worth it. I will definitely come back here again.”

“My daughter and I dined at 530pm yesterday, May 24th 2025. We chose to sit in the dining room. We were lead to a table by the fireplace under a great chandelier. The ambiance of Joey Crowfoot is lively and warm. Comfortable seating, perfectly sized tables, and excellent lighting. Our server, whose name I can't recall - tall dark and handsome and a theater major - was attentive and friendly. The food we had was absolutely incredible. We chose goyza dumplings to start which were so flavourful and perfectly cooked. My daughter ordered the hamburger and fries and even with her braces bothering her, she demolished. My blackened chicken with warm potato salad was hands down the BEST meal I've had in a restaurant in a long, long time. I will be dreaming of that salad until I can get back there again !!”

His tag team with Chris to make this birthday nothing short of Calgary perfection is exactly why we ended up here. “Just when you think they can't raise their game any higher Hy's manages to find a way. We attended the Calgary locations 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sept 26th and it was spectacular. The event was flawlessly organized and orchestrated by the Hy's team, the food was next level even by Hy's standards and the service exceeded anything we have experienced anywhere in North America even in the finest hotels. Bryant Olender added a classic background with piano and vocal stylings that perfectly suited the atmosphere. It was certainly the best evening we have at Hy's over the last decade, and I don't think I'm overstating it to say it was a "Once in a Lifetime" experience. Watch out for their announcement/s at Instagram and book at TOCK. I got mine in November 2021 for February 2022 dinner. Chef Darren shared that in the latest offering, 36,000 people went in and it sold out in 30 seconds. You will receive an email for dining reservations and included are instructions how to get to Eight. Located at ALT hotel at East Village in Calgary, Alberta. Complimentary underground parking. Be early, reception will send you at NUPO bar before you’ll be invited over to the secret door leading to your seat. 2. FOOD There are no words to describe the gastronomical experience this 15-course dinner (with snacks) offered. All the superlatives can be used. Fall in love with the plethora of Canadian ingredients married into the greatness Chef Darren’s mind. Well intentioned sourcing of fresh local, farm owned ingredients in your plate. Each made great with time whether it’s the reclaimed dairy cow’s beef, cured bacon goodness — it’s clear! (yum) and rich chicken broth. From east to west ingredients, indulge in what each coast brings through texture, colour and scents. It’s a win after win, one plate, one bowl at a time. 3. PAIRINGS Truly recommended to take it! As serendipity has it, it was Season 8 and Eight’s 2nd anniversary. The last pairing of Espresso, Licor 43 was replaced by a Ruinart Blanc de Blanc to celebrate with Chef Darren and his staff. Lucky! 4. AMBIENCE Low light, one bulb overhead per person highlights the food in front of you. Across is a marbled island where the action happens. It’s a cozy distance to chat with other guests to your side and still well-spaced to enjoy your spot (and your date!) Leather bar seats, metal backing art at the corner adds to the mystery feel of the eluded box. 5. STORY TELLING This is a vital part of the dining experience. Chef Darren walks through the history of ingredients and how he came up with the course. Very interesting, heartwarming and funny stories to hear. 6. SYMPHONY The smooth flow of chef, assistants and server movements : cooking, plating, serving timing, wine glass replacement and bread offering is a flawless operations at an optimum (small) space. It is a feat. 7. CERAMICS The handmade, locally made plate counts. The 24 Karat lined cup and the stacked bowl of snacks counts. It’s beautiful. Hello Quinspired Ceramics ✨ 8. INVESTMENT Worth every Canadian dollar. $245pp dinner + $145pp pairing (optional) + 20% gratuity + taxes Ending note: There is a no photo policy and it suits your dinner experience as you’re fully immersed into the story telling and presentation. You are given a small folder, tucked in is the menu + pairing details. Inside the folder is poignant essay of Chef Darren’s thoughts how the Canadian Reflection Menu came about. Take it as poetry! A map of Canada is inserted and handwritten in each province were ingredients used that night. Overall, this was a great experience. Calgary is lucky to have Eight. Well done! Bravo Chef Darren! Now, best of luck to booking a seat!”

“I'm not really an "ice cream person" - but the quality and flavour combinations that Marcus has contrived NEVER cease to amaze me. Often very long lineups for a reason (If you want to bypass the lineups, pop in and buy a quart (or 4 for a discount) and they'll serve you right away to pay for it, and you can enjoy at home. I have only found one other ice cream shop in my travels that comes close to rivaling Marcus, but one has to travel to the other side of the world to get it - Duck Island Ice cream in NZ - but that's a heck of a flight for ice cream that is almost as good as what you can get locally!)”

“i had the rare beef pho, #17and spring rolls, my wife had wonton soup, #3 and salad rolls,#5. We were impressed with all our items. The broth in both soups were excellent. the wonton broth was chicken based. It was clear and maybe one of the best we have tasted. We will be back.”

“after a long bicycle ride along the Bow river i decide to cut through the Ogden industrial area to save some time getting home to eat ..........Well just as i was about to cross Blackfoot tr i noticed a sign that read Food Coma so i decided to give this little unassuming place a try .......Little did i know that i was about to become a food coma addict ...The smoked brisket sandwich was what got its hooks in me i new i was in over my head when i couldn't get my mouth to open wide enough to get around the sandwich every bite had volts wagon sized chunks of brisket falling back down on my plate my mouth so alive with the spices that are done to perfection on this masterpiece there's a bit of heat but just enough to make the brisket come alive not overwhelm ....Since my first stop there i have been back every couple of days and haven't stopped talking about this gem that i found by shear luck ...... The chief Ali is so personable right away you feel like your visiting a close friend very likeable fellow ...I can not say enough about this place and the fantastic food for the last while now every time i run in to someone i haven't seen in a while or even if i saw them yesterday when they say whats new the first words out of my mouth are Food Coma do yourself a favor check this place out”
