“It was a perfect breakfast for the three of us before we dropped out daughter off at the airport. I had my traditional two eggs over easy with toast sausage and bacon. The two others had some wonderful eggs-benny. My eggs were perfect, the toast was perfect, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were spicy and succulent, making for a delicious meal. Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!”

“My daughter and I dined at 530pm yesterday, May 24th 2025. We chose to sit in the dining room. We were lead to a table by the fireplace under a great chandelier. The ambiance of Joey Crowfoot is lively and warm. Comfortable seating, perfectly sized tables, and excellent lighting. Our server, whose name I can't recall - tall dark and handsome and a theater major - was attentive and friendly. The food we had was absolutely incredible. We chose goyza dumplings to start which were so flavourful and perfectly cooked. My daughter ordered the hamburger and fries and even with her braces bothering her, she demolished. My blackened chicken with warm potato salad was hands down the BEST meal I've had in a restaurant in a long, long time. I will be dreaming of that salad until I can get back there again !!”

“This is genuinely crazy.. i was using the subway app to place an order for lunch, i meant to place the order for the tuscany boulevard location, but instead i placed it across the city at this walden gate location closer to home, i forgot to change it🤦🏾‍♂️ tried to cancel the order in app but couldnt find the setting, so i just accepted that i wasted my money, but low and behold, an angel called my phone, calls me about the order, i tell her i placed it at the wrong location, and she offers for me to come later so they can remake the order. I tell her im probably not getting off work until like 5. So in my head im thinking “damn this girl is probably not gonna be working, will the other workers on the clock at 5 do it for me?” So come 5 o clock i remembered this on the way home, called in, and asked the workers currently on if they were able to do it. And guess what, they did! This level level of dedication is insanity, this level of customer service is unheard of.. there was absolutely no obligation for them to do this, in fact greedy corporate leaders would probably say to take my money and save the food resources, but the dedication to customer service from this woman was too high, i want to recommend everyone involved for an immediate promotion. Talbir and khush were the workers that were in at 5 o clock, but as for the girl at lunch who called me to let me know to get my sandwich, i forgot to ask for her name. All I know was that she was working monday aug 10th, 2026 around noon to recieve the order, she needs a promotion badly, this level of dedication to service must not go unrewarded, there needs to be more incentive for stuff like this. The event was flawlessly organized and orchestrated by the Hy's team, the food was next level even by Hy's standards and the service exceeded anything we have experienced anywhere in North America even in the finest hotels. Bryant Olender added a classic background with piano and vocal stylings that perfectly suited the atmosphere. It was certainly the best evening we have at Hy's over the last decade, and I don't think I'm overstating it to say it was a "Once in a Lifetime" experience. “I tried Modern Steak since my mom was craving a halal burger and they have a wagyu burger option. We were seated quickly without waiting even though it was busy. The wait time was a little long and it was a little hard to catch our waitress, but I don’t blame them since it was busy. I got a halal ribeye steak and it was cooked just right. The quality was also worth the price. The wagyu burger in my opinion was a little lacklustre, but wagyu is always best simple so it was alright. The star of dinner was the Baked Alaska. Absolutely delicious. I would come back just to eat the Baked Alaska again. Definitely recommend for steak and just to try the Baked Alaska.”

Chef Darren shared that in the latest offering, 36,000 people went in and it sold out in 30 seconds. You will receive an email for dining reservations and included are instructions how to get to Eight. Located at ALT hotel at East Village in Calgary, Alberta. Complimentary underground parking. Be early, reception will send you at NUPO bar before you’ll be invited over to the secret door leading to your seat. 2. FOOD There are no words to describe the gastronomical experience this 15-course dinner (with snacks) offered. All the superlatives can be used. Fall in love with the plethora of Canadian ingredients married into the greatness Chef Darren’s mind. Well intentioned sourcing of fresh local, farm owned ingredients in your plate. Each made great with time whether it’s the reclaimed dairy cow’s beef, cured bacon goodness — it’s clear! (yum) and rich chicken broth. From east to west ingredients, indulge in what each coast brings through texture, colour and scents. It’s a win after win, one plate, one bowl at a time. 3. PAIRINGS Truly recommended to take it! As serendipity has it, it was Season 8 and Eight’s 2nd anniversary. The last pairing of Espresso, Licor 43 was replaced by a Ruinart Blanc de Blanc to celebrate with Chef Darren and his staff. Lucky! 4. AMBIENCE Low light, one bulb overhead per person highlights the food in front of you. Across is a marbled island where the action happens. It’s a cozy distance to chat with other guests to your side and still well-spaced to enjoy your spot (and your date!) Leather bar seats, metal backing art at the corner adds to the mystery feel of the eluded box. 5. STORY TELLING This is a vital part of the dining experience. Chef Darren walks through the history of ingredients and how he came up with the course. Very interesting, heartwarming and funny stories to hear. 6. SYMPHONY The smooth flow of chef, assistants and server movements : cooking, plating, serving timing, wine glass replacement and bread offering is a flawless operations at an optimum (small) space. It is a feat. 7. CERAMICS The handmade, locally made plate counts. The 24 Karat lined cup and the stacked bowl of snacks counts. It’s beautiful. Hello Quinspired Ceramics ✨ 8. INVESTMENT Worth every Canadian dollar. $245pp dinner + $145pp pairing (optional) + 20% gratuity + taxes Ending note: There is a no photo policy and it suits your dinner experience as you’re fully immersed into the story telling and presentation. You are given a small folder, tucked in is the menu + pairing details. Inside the folder is poignant essay of Chef Darren’s thoughts how the Canadian Reflection Menu came about. Take it as poetry! A map of Canada is inserted and handwritten in each province were ingredients used that night. Overall, this was a great experience. Calgary is lucky to have Eight. Well done! Bravo Chef Darren! “We had our wedding at Rouge and I can’t express how perfect our day was! The coordinator Rey was absolutely amazing from the very first day I met her up to the day itself. She took the time to answer all my questions (very quickly) and on the day of, she guided us through the process and made us feel so comfortable with everything. The set up and take down was smooth and they worked with our guests and vendors to make sure everyone had what they needed. “It was a perfect breakfast for the three of us before we dropped out daughter off at the airport. I had my traditional two eggs over easy with toast sausage and bacon. The two others had some wonderful eggs-benny. My eggs were perfect, the toast was perfect, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were spicy and succulent, making for a delicious meal. Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!”

The mango-coconut muffin and the latte, just amazing. The muffin especially, was perfectly sweet, which brought out the flavours so well. The mango filling in the middle and the mango chunks in there, just heavenly. Such a great ambience. Super clean, great service. While I was here, I felt like everything my eyes fell on was put there with so much care and purpose. It’s so great to be in a place that someone has put together with so much passion for the work they do. Because the entrance to the cafe is not through the front, but through a side door past a main door, anytime someone opens the door you are not startled by the road noise. As someone who loves to be in places with minimal noise interruptions, I really appreciate the tiny little bell when the door opens. It just makes the sweetest little ‘ting’ as compared to the loud electronic‘TING TONG’. The song was played on the perfect volume too, not overwhelming the space at all. A more selfish part of me wants to keep this cafe a secret for just myself. But a better part of me wants everyone to know. And an amazing cafe like this makes me want to get a loudspeaker out and just scream out the great things about this place, till everyone gets Frida’s mango muffins.”

“Bar Gigi is much more than a great meal—it is a small restaurant with a very distinct personality.

We sat outside on a cool early-fall evening and tried several dishes. The prawn toast was rich and buttery, brightened beautifully by yuzu. The Hokkaido scallop crudo was delicate and refreshing, while the charred cabbage—perhaps the humblest ingredient on the menu—was one of the most memorable dishes of the night. It perfectly reflects chef Sandro’s philosophy: “There are no boring ingredients, only boring chefs.”

What makes Bar Gigi special is the story and spirit behind it. Sandro Chinea, Jaden Kanomata and Kayla Blomquist left established restaurants to create something of their own, transforming an old fish-and-chip shop into this intimate 20-seat neighbourhood gem. The atmosphere is lively, relaxed and unpretentious, while the cooking is confident and highly creative.

It is small, crowded and a little noisy—and that is part of its charm. Bar Gigi feels less like a formal fine-dining restaurant and more like being invited to a very talented friend’s dinner party.
