“Tonight I was in a party of 5 at my table. The group was my family with my sister as the visitor from Greece. Alivia was our server and she was so pleasant to us and so sincere with all of us. Her knowledge of the menu and providing us with reviews on the menu items was simply impressive. Our food entrees were absolutely fabulous and even my 87 year old Mom was raving about the service and food. We have frequented this restaurant a few times and tonight will remain memorable. Your prices were not inflated; they were reasonable (well, except the dessert was a bit pricey, but then I do not think I have ever tasted a more delicious dessert!) Albeit, we only had drinks and dessert. The waitresses we had the pleasure of interacting with were gracious, friendly and fun--just right! I wish I knew their names. My wife and I live busy lives and had a baby shortly after our wedding and have repeatedly told each other since the wedding we truly owe it to the restaurant to make sure we sit down, take time and praise how truly happy we were with our experience in a review so that everyone knows and we can hopefully give them some extra business and help others have as spectacular an experience as us. Since our time there many of our guests have shared how much they loved the experience there and said that they could not think of a better place to have a wedding venue. We do live out of town so we do t get to go back as often as we’d like but our anniversary is just around the corner and we’re very excited to go back to The Lake House to enjoy this day as well. “Cactus is a staple in the Calgary food industry, the service you get is pretty standard across the board. We did notice the food does have a bit of a heavy salt undertone, it could possibly come down to dishes and personal preference but we did have two people we were with mention something similar. The service was a high point however it’s always a on point but this specific location is a bit cramped and loud I find. Could be due to the size of the location parking is a similar problem. Overall it’s not bad and not great just overage at best“

“We have been to this Cactus Club lots of enjoyable times. We therefore decided to go there for our 54th wedding anniversary last Wednesday. Food was prompt and excellent and the manager arranged for a welcome drink of prosecco. Nice touch. The service by Jackie R was a 10-out-of-10 and we will certainly pay a visit to this restaurant again in the near future. Five stars!!“

“Lovely neighbourhood spot for delicious comfort food in a casual setting. We have been coming here for a few years, and we always leave with happy bellies and big smiles.

The food is great, but it’s sometimes inconsistent depending on the day and time. Recently, we dined in on their Monday pizza night, and the place was jam-packed and bumpin’. The pizzas were fresh and delicious - and half off as a bonus…excellent value. The burger, fries, and prawn tacos were pretty good as well, although they have been better when ordered in the afternoon.

Our server was super friendly and kind, although more staff would probably help with their availability and attentiveness. If you plan on dining in on their weekly special evenings, give yourself lots of time to sit and relax.

The owners are very generous and give back to the community through donations, which we greatly appreciate.

“In line with the restaurant, I’ve structured to 8 points of my dining experience. 1. RESERVATIONS & GETTING THERE If you’re very lucky you can get a reservation. Watch out for their announcement/s at Instagram and book at TOCK. I got mine in November 2021 for February 2022 dinner. Chef Darren shared that in the latest offering, 36,000 people went in and it sold out in 30 seconds. You will receive an email for dining reservations and included are instructions how to get to Eight. Located at ALT hotel at East Village in Calgary, Alberta. Complimentary underground parking. Be early, reception will send you at NUPO bar before you’ll be invited over to the secret door leading to your seat. 2. FOOD There are no words to describe the gastronomical experience this 15-course dinner (with snacks) offered. All the superlatives can be used. Fall in love with the plethora of Canadian ingredients married into the greatness Chef Darren’s mind. Well intentioned sourcing of fresh local, farm owned ingredients in your plate. Each made great with time whether it’s the reclaimed dairy cow’s beef, cured bacon goodness — it’s clear! (yum) and rich chicken broth. From east to west ingredients, indulge in what each coast brings through texture, colour and scents. It’s a win after win, one plate, one bowl at a time. 3. PAIRINGS Truly recommended to take it! As serendipity has it, it was Season 8 and Eight’s 2nd anniversary. The last pairing of Espresso, Licor 43 was replaced by a Ruinart Blanc de Blanc to celebrate with Chef Darren and his staff. Lucky! 4. AMBIENCE Low light, one bulb overhead per person highlights the food in front of you. Across is a marbled island where the action happens. It’s a cozy distance to chat with other guests to your side and still well-spaced to enjoy your spot (and your date!) Leather bar seats, metal backing art at the corner adds to the mystery feel of the eluded box. 5. STORY TELLING This is a vital part of the dining experience. Chef Darren walks through the history of ingredients and how he came up with the course. Very interesting, heartwarming and funny stories to hear. 6. SYMPHONY The smooth flow of chef, assistants and server movements : cooking, plating, serving timing, wine glass replacement and bread offering is a flawless operations at an optimum (small) space. It is a feat. 7. CERAMICS The handmade, locally made plate counts. The 24 Karat lined cup and the stacked bowl of snacks counts. It’s beautiful. Hello Quinspired Ceramics ✨ 8. INVESTMENT Worth every Canadian dollar. $245pp dinner + $145pp pairing (optional) + 20% gratuity + taxes Ending note: There is a no photo policy and it suits your dinner experience as you’re fully immersed into the story telling and presentation. You are given a small folder, tucked in is the menu + pairing details. Inside the folder is poignant essay of Chef Darren’s thoughts how the Canadian Reflection Menu came about. Take it as poetry! A map of Canada is inserted and handwritten in each province were ingredients used that night. Overall, this was a great experience. Calgary is lucky to have Eight. Well done! Bravo Chef Darren! “We had the pleasure of being served by Adrian M. tonight at The Wednesday Room on Stephen Avenue—and I can honestly say he was the highlight of the entire event.

From the moment guests arrived, Andre was attentive, professional, and incredibly warm. He didn’t just serve the room—he owned it, ensuring every drink was topped up, every appetizer was perfectly timed, and every guest felt genuinely cared for. It’s rare to see someone balance efficiency with kindness so effortlessly.

Adrian’s natural leadership shone through all evening. He anticipated needs before they were voiced and moved through the crowd with calm confidence and grace. If there’s anyone deserving of a management or leadership position, it’s him. His ability to create a welcoming, polished experience elevated the entire event.

“We have been coming to Oscar's for over a decade. Consistently good food. Dry ribs are excellent. Delicious flame grilled burgers. I had the steak sandwich tonight. Perfect. Living in BC now so i really needed a good piece of Alberta Beef . You will find it here and as it is off the hot flaming grill from Wellingtons with which it shares a kitchen it was good enough to rival Caesar's and Hy's Steakhouses. I have no problem travelling 800 km to eat here.“

“Came to check out their YYC hot chocolate special. It was quite delicious and my friends and I split 2 pizzas between the 3 of us. The Deluxe pizza could have used some more cheese but otherwise it was all amazing. Waitress was very nice. Always love the service here.“

“It was a perfect breakfast for the three of us before we dropped out daughter off at the airport. I had my traditional two eggs over easy with toast sausage and bacon. The two others had some wonderful eggs-benny. My eggs were perfect, the toast was perfect, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were spicy and succulent, making for a delicious meal. Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!“

For mains she had the duck breast with yuzu bread pudding, grilled bok choy, rhubarb and gochujang bbq sauce; I had the braised short rib in tomato & balsamic reduction with white cheddar mashed potatoes and broccolini. Both were plated beautifully, served at the right temperature, and done just right. Everything paired well with a Kiona Vineyards Riesling 2022. For dessert we shared a matcha cheese cake with cookie crumb, yuzu chantilly, and micro anise. Our server was pleasantly attentive throughout the evening, answered all of our questions about the menu, and handled our table of 8 efficiently. The interior is beautiful! We had a superb experience overall.“

“Giving 5 stars all across because we go here a lot (I mean a lot!) with our girls and this most recent visit Saturday, March 1st was an exception to what’s always an amazing experience.

Please update your kids menu to specify the ingredients on the quesadilla.
The grown up quesadilla version has a lovely description of what it has in it, the kids says only “quesadilla and fries”.
Yes our bad for not asking our server specifically if it was a cheese quesadilla / chicken quesadilla or otherwise…. We figured it was simply cheese because if it had a meat (being on the kids menu) it would say. Our table was somehow not assigned to a server and the manager did her best to look after us, and in the rush and confusion of everything- she didn’t tell us it had chicken and we never thought to ask.

Long story short- my kids do eat chicken. Just not in quesadillas, and the quesadillas have chicken and cheese.
Assuming it’s not a premade frozen quesadilla next time we are there we will see if we can order a plain cheese quesadilla instead.

Now we know. I do think the menu should be updated to state it is a chicken quesadilla though.“

“They were great the place was really full and it was right before a concert so a little on the loud side. The service was good we didn't feel rushed the timing was good giving us enough time to get to our seats. The pre-set menu was very good and had good options for the price.“

“Nice local place that had an assortment of food on the menu. Was pleasantly surprised with everything. The server and staff was friendly, kept my drinks topped off and checked to see how everything was.

Wings were like most pub food, though, it was made well, not too dry and not tiny either. Some other pubs I have ordered them from, have been small or dry.

The steak was cooked MR as ordered which was great as some places I have been to have over cooked them before. It had a salad and mashed potatoes served with it. The potatoes were nice and creamy, though I found out later it came premade.
