“When people talk about "hidden gems" this is exactly what they mean! This is a beautiful Japanese Italian fusion restaurant and every dish is carefully crafted. From the moment we walked in we were treated with the best service and food we've had in a long time. It's a small restaurant but they're popular and book up fast- for good reason. To start we had spicy tuna tartare on housemade chips, and karaage chicken with pesto dip- the dip paired surprisingly well with the deliciously seasoned karaage chicken, made with tender chicken thigh. Both were also good portion sizes for apps. For mains, we had spicy Wagyu bolognese ramen and the Duck Duck Duck dish (duck served 2 ways with penne pasta). The duck was delicious, tender and well cooked but the star was the Wagyu bolognese ramen- such a unique combination but this was hands down the best ramen I've had in a long time! Such a rich savoury broth with tender Wagyu bolognese. It was also a huge portion sizes bowl so we of course had leftovers.Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert but we'll def try them next time!“
“Always wanted to try Teppanyaki! First date night in soooo long and WOW the atmosphere, staff and food was amazing! Best night we have had in such a long time. 100% be back it’s definitely our favourite place to go to now! Would definitely recommend this brilliant restaurant to anyone as it will not disappoint!!!“
“I have bad digestion issues that make me very sensitive to my food. I have been in a bad flare for some time and the sushi here is reliably safe for me. It is incredibly fresh and delicious, it is priced at excellent value, and the service is top tier. I'm happy the staff hasn't been judgmental about me going here almost every day for the past two weeks.“
“Maria is such a wonderful host, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. It’s far and away the best sushi I’ve ever had, and the presentation of the dishes is simply beautiful. To quote the name of the T.V. show, "You Gotta Eat Here!"“
“I've been here twice for lunch the past week and have to say they have such amazing lunch combos/deals! The nigiri and sushi rolls are fresh and delicious! I look forward to coming back to try their other dishes and hope to come and try their dinner menu soon :).“
“Service is as good as I remember. The ambiance is Satsuki is always nice ans quiet. It environment a nice environment to catch up without shouting over each other. The fish is fresh and plating is delicate which enhance our gal lunch hangout experience.“
“What a nice surprise this place was. Excellent sushi quality. Better than many in town.Prices here are great for the quality and considering the huge increases in the prices of everything in 2024 in general. For a group of 3 (2 adults and a child), we spent approx $250 for dinner with a sake and a yam panna cotta. Not cheap, but for reference, we've spent double before and left hungry at a restaurant downtown. Here, we were full but not to the point of indigestion. Similar quality blue fin toro elsewhere in the city was $15 per piece. This place gives you 3 pieces for this same price. If all sushi is the same to you or you can't tell what is good or not (i.e. supermarket cooler sushi tastes good to you) then save your money and go to the restaurants closer to Chinook. The menu here is good. Some standard main fare and a good selection of special /unique items. The California roll, dynamite roll and miso soups were the least impressive. Everything else was wonderful. If it was not for my kiddo, I wouldn't have ordered the first 3 items. But, they were not bad at all and my kid loved them. The tempura is exceptional. Crispy, not too mich batter and flavorful. The shrimp and unagi nigiri were delicious and prepared perfectly, not mushy and also not dry nor smothered in sauce. 2 items created well above the average Calgarian Japanese restaurant standard. Oshi was well balanced, creative, and wonderfully smokey.Plating was beautiful with natural items like pretty flower petals for spota of colour. Zero plastic items was also a plus. This small restaurant is in a very basic strip mall with an underwhelming exterior. Inside it is decorated nicely in a lovely classic minimalistic design. I especially liked the very nice selection of pottery pieces used for table settings and decor accents.Good place for a small family dinner, lunch with friends, or a casual date spot. Great food but not at all pretentious. Vibe is mellow and relaxed. Service is attentive and food preparation is perfectly timed.I think if you want a truly romantic date night meal though, another place might be better unless they dim the lights for evening service. I feel it's a bit bright otherwise. For eating out with a large group, I'd recommend calling in advance so they can move some tables and seats together.Hopefully, this restaurant will stay around. It's a very good one. We'll make an effort to be back whenever we visit South Calgary.Parking: You may have to walk a short distance, but it's a big parking lot that always has room. Just fills up closer to all the store fronts.“
“We recently celebrated my husband's birthday at Ajito and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The server was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, making us feel truly valued as guests. The food was nothing short of excellent. Each dish was not only beautifully presented but also bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the main course, every bite was a culinary delight. The attention to detail in both the presentation and taste truly showcased the skill and expertise of the chefs. What truly enhanced our dining experience was the cozy ambiance of the restaurant. The warm lighting and inviting atmosphere created the perfect setting for a special occasion like my husband's birthday. We felt relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire meal, allowing us to fully savor each moment.Overall, our experience at Ajito was exceptional. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and cozy ambiance made it a night to remember. I highly recommend Ajito to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. We will definitely be returning in the future.“
“Sushi Hiro, a (Japanese) family-owned authentic Japanese restaurant, has been one of my favorite spots for sushi ever since I moved to Calgary.Featuring:- Chirashi SushiTheir sushi is always fresh and flavors so authentic. I always like to start with a sip of the miso soup because I like to taste it when it's still hot. For me, the taste of miso soup often gives me a good preview of the quality of food you're about to eat.The Chirashi Sushi comes in a traditional bento box, which is unique from the usual Chirashi Don we see where it comes in a bowl of rice with fish on top. It's hard to eat sushi with my daughter because she can't eat raw food yet and I often feed her whatever I order for myself, but with the Chirashi Sushi from Sushi Hiro, the rice comes in a separate compartment, as well as the tamago and imitation crab which my daughter could eat, so we could all enjoy a nice meal ?.They also went through renovations in the last few years so the space is smaller now. They got rid of the tatami floor seating, which I liked... But I was happy that the food still tastes good!“
“Thanks to Chef Jun Young Park for treating the girlfriend and I to a very reasonably priced omakase. Everything was extremely fresh and it was nice that the fish was nice and cold. Beautifully presented and the flavours for everything was extremely intricate. I really enjoyed the truffle with Ahi Tuna, something extremely unique and surprisingly tasted great.Interested in trying their a la carte menu next time!“
“The Ryuko SE branch is one of my favorite restaurants. But it was far away, so I couldn't go often. So it was nice to have a West branch near my house. So I made a reservation today and went there. But the food was a little different from what I knew. The sushi in the premium sushi set was smaller than the East branch (especially salmon) and it was disappointing that there were no sesame seeds in the chicken katsu sauce. Next time, I'll visit the East branch again“
“This is the spot! Whether you’re a steadfast regular diner, or you stumble upon this place for the first time, you are in great hands. Whether you pop in for a quick bite or take time to experience the harmony of their food and incomparable sake offerings, you will be delighted. It’s a great day when Sukiyaki House is part of it.“
“Very good katsu - crispy and light coating, the meat moist and delicious (we had the assorted - pork, shrimp and cheese). Yummy spicy rice cake too. The place is small and clean, the service was friendly and efficient, and the portions were generous. We will definitely go back.“
“+ The food tastes fresh and very good! This restaurant serves some of the best tasting sushi+ The service is very kind and food didn't take long to be received+ Dimly lit place with an inviting ambiance. While it's not special, it is a clean and spacious area±$$ range - Some of the sushi/rolls are ~$10, and others are ~$25. Other food items: Appetizers ~$7+ and main items ~$13+“
“So, all in all, dining at Daruma was a blast. Authentic Japanese food, a chef who's got serious skills and passion - it all made for a meal I won't forget anytime soon. Highly recommend chicken karage, they are to die for! If you're up for a killer Japanese food experience, you've gotta check out Daruma.“
“I love koji Katsu! They recently opened this year and I love that they’re adding and improving their menu. I definitely recommend their assorted Katsu, it’s a huge portion of their three types of Katsu (tenderloin, shrimp, and cheese) with rice soup and salad. You can easily share this with two people! And I love their Katsu sando (sandwich). The bread is so tender and it tastes like the one in Japan. They have great service and are really open to feedback! A great local place in the city“
“Unique meal experience, also great ramen!Came here for ramen, but got the bonus of the unique "do-it-yourself" grilling of meats over a fire. This created a cozy atmosphere, on top of probably some of the freshest meats you can get (as you literally cook it and eat it immediately). The ramen was also delicious and very reasonably priced. All in all I would definitely recommend going here at least once, for a unique experience that is also properly priced!“
“Best sushi in penticton! The portions are generous, the quality is incredible and the presentation is beautiful.Everything I have tried has been fantastic, and the spicy tofu teriyaki is a favourite so far.Vegetarian options: Probably the best vegetarian food from a non veg restaurant.“
“I absolutely loved the old Sushi Crave so hadn't been back since but I finally tried it today and it was amazing, and possibly better than the original. The service was impeccable and the black dragon roll was fantastic! The atmosphere is very different and works very well with the space (think anime cafe vibe). Also love the love note chest ❤️“
“Such a cute place!! I instantly felt warm and fuzzy on the inside as soon as I walked in! ? This place has an awesome vibe & energy, and workers who are SUPER sweet. The food was amazing! The texture of the fish is wonderful, and the rolls are just the right size!! I will DEFINITELY be coming back often. Thank you very much! ??“
“Where is the option for 70 billion stars? My husband and I had the most incredible dining experience EVER. From the first bite to the last, we were completely blown away with the quality and presentation. Our server Jamie was attentive and an absolute gem.Honestly, the most delicious plates we have ever had. We will be back, tomorrow… haha“
“Amazing sushi. So so good!!! I just wanted to keep eating. Our food was taking a while so we asked the waitress and she was very apologetic and gave us free miso soup. They also gave us an extra roll no charge! We will definitely be coming back to this place. Absolutely outstanding!!“
“Vibe and atmosphereBento Box offers a delightful dining experience with inviting ambiance and flavorful dishes. The sweet cheesecake with salted caramel and cashew was heavenly, complemented by the delicious tuna tartare. The Okinawa Nights cocktail was a surprising delight. Kudos to the attentive staff and the enjoyable playlist curated by Roger Waters ?“
“The sushi was delicious especially the spicy California Roll, I really liked the teriyaki Chicken and the Korrokke was to die for. The service was great friendly and very helpful in choosing the right dish for those who want recommendations. They have very comfortable seats with good space between the tables, the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. I highly recommend visiting this awesome restaurant.“
“We are from Vancouver and we were very lucky to have enjoyed excellent sushi while living there.Since moving to Calgary last year, we had to try several locations in Calgary, before discovering Ki Sushi - which we think serves the best sushi in the city.Great menu, and very nice staff. Enjoy!“
“Everything about this restaurant was excellent! The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and kind. The waitress was so nice to our babies and was so sweet! The food was really good, so many options! The value is excellent as well. The interior decorators were very nice! Sake was really good! They have sake flights!! So many to choose from! Will go here again!“
“One of the best sushi places in the city. Offer lots of chef created options which is wonderful for when you can’t decide. As well they are one of the only restaurants in the area that have Eel Tempura and Butterfish, and it is astounding. Was not let down by a single dish.Parking: 12 spots connected to the restaurantKid-friendliness: Saw 2 tables with children inside while we were dining“
“Cute little Japanese cafe that serves all kinds of brunch, lunch and dinner foods. They have an ayce brunch on weekends for $22 but you need to make sure to book as they fill up fast! My fav were the curry Katsu and black sesame ice cream. They also have a huge menu with foods ranging from ramen to onigiri to Bento boxes.“
“Woah! Absolutely delicious & fresh food! Ordered Hojicha Pancake & Heaven Crab. Hojicha Pancake tasted of Hojicha tea. Very interesting toppings like Boba, Hojicha tea, extremely fresh fruit of white strawberries, blueberries &green grapes, syrup & cream. Heaven Crab was out of this world! Made up of soft shell Crab Tempura, Scrambled Eggs, sitting on a sourdough bread with very fresh salad mix topping. Comes with hollandaise sauce & ponzu sauce. Will order again!“
“100% recommend! Food is tasty and they are always so accommodating by being extra careful with allergies and ensuring our large orders are double checked and nothing is missing. Prices are great. Pop cans is $1 and they have large sushi trays available made to order.“
“I just want to thank Kinjo for their exceptional service! We had a little mix app with our order tonight and the management/staff went above and beyond to help! I'm truly grateful, what they didn't know is that it was my 9 year old son's special treat for doing so well in school which he was looking forward to all week so they just made his day (and mine)! Not to mention how amazing the food is and the Almond Pocky's which we are now obsessed with!!!! Thank you so much, I can't wait for more sushi! :) Your loyal customer, Jackie“
“Went there with my wife on a snowy day, place is small but the atmosphere is great! Service is fast and friendly. We love their drink, ordered a cocktail and sake. Food is great, especially in Calgary’s standard, would’ve been even better if it is charcoal like the yakitori in Japan. Price is reasonable, majority of the portion are great. The yuzu sorbet is a must have, we love it! Only disappointment was the scallop, let’s just say whoever prepare it has really fine knife works, very thinly cut, that is the only complain we have. We will definitely go again!“
“Another hidden gem in the NW! Have been fortunate to eat here several times whether it’s just for coffee, lunch or dinner! Owners are very attentive and wanting to please their customers. Food is artful, varied, fabulous and always fresh, restaurant has a cozy and hip design, desserts are divine and great for sharing, and their matcha lattes “un piece de resistance”. Stop by to support this local amazing restaurant and you won’t be disappointed!Kid-friendliness: Great for families and not too busy!“
“This is my go-to place for comfort food! Excellent service, clean and sanitary environment, and great prices for good quality food!Kid-friendliness: The atmosphere is calm and enjoyable for kids and they also have food options that is suitable for children!“
“This restaurant is hands down the best food in the Calgary airport. We ordered a regular bento box and a side order of spicy tuna rolls. Then the staff went to work immediately, making all of the food fresh to order by hand! Every element of the bento box was delicious and the rolls were fresh and tender. It was some of the best sushi I've had.Kid-friendliness: They were happy to modify the bento box order for my child, making any changes necessary to suit her taste and reduce spice level if desired.“
“So glad they survived!! The portions are a bit small if you're a big eater (it's okay, just pick up an onigiri!!) but so excited to still have an onigiri that was close to the ones found in Japan. The filling was generous within the rice balls and the rice had a wonderful texture. My favourite was the cajun shrimp as it has pieces of quality shrimp hidden away inside! The poke bowl ingredients are fresh and the bento boxes offer a nice selection of sides and teriyaki sauce isn't too sweet which I appreciated. You can tell love and quality have gone into this food.. now I just wish it wasn't across town from my office!“
“YYC date day a success with my squeeze at @shokuninyyc We had the mouth watering delight of experiencing the Yakitori tasting with drink pairing. As per usual, we were floored with the food, service (thanks Giwan!) and the view; being kitchen side while the restaurant thrived in service was an experience in itself. Well done @chefdarrenmaclean for your incredible staff and food at Shokunin!!! #hokkaidoscallop #30dayagedwagyubeef #yakitori #yellowtail #kitchenbeers #tiramisu #yyc #datenight“
“I'm not sure when this place changed hands or how long ago that was, but Ifor 10+ years I've enjoyed the sushi place here in the past (with the same name the entire time I believe); it was always a good option when I didn't know what I wanted. I didn't eat here for a few years (due to recent events and how that impacted office work), and recently started visiting again. The menu's changed a bit and the staff seem to be different people which is why I suspect it may have changed owners in recent years?I've only had the Omakase since I noticed the possible ownership change and it is seriously tasty - I try to pick a container with sweet shrimp nigiri and aburi salmon. The food here is excellent quality, especially for a grab and go sushi place! Highly recommended, and the service is always friendly. Hands down the best express sushi place I've tried downtown, and rivals some of the order in places (and I've been to many of them in Calgary).“
“4.5 overall Small space but worthwhile to try to get a spot. It's unique with a fun atmosphere , low key vibes and good unique offerings (Japanese inspired food). Highly recommend the sandwiches. Does come piping hot, juicy and flavour filled. The fries were the only one I was mediocre on based on the texture of the fries - got the curry poutine.“
“Came here for the first time and the food is amazing and great and friendly customer service. Would recommend the poke bowl as you can choose your base to be lettuce instead of rice if you want a healthier version and you get yo to 10 toppings and you choose 3 sauces. It’s a healthy and yummy option ???“
“Super friendly.Delicious food.Short wait.Nice decor.Quiet inside at 3pm on a Wednesday, but lots of delivery orders going out.We were so excited to eat that we only took a pic of our complimentary amuse bouche.Dynamite roll, spicy Salmon, gyoza.“
“I only did a pickup delivery but when I entered, the place felt so bright and spacious to eat at. The staff was super friendly and polite. First couple of bites into the spicy Salmon roll was delightful. I haven't tried the ramen but I am eager to dig into it ?? 10/10 recommendParking: You have two options to get into the lot but there's a lot of space“
“If you've heard of, or eaten at Kim's Katsu in Kensington of Calgary, you're in luck! Kim's Katsu has just opened another restaurant in Cochrane! Our meals tonight were delicious and reasonably-priced! Kim's Katsu is located on the main street in the building where Schooners used to be.“
“My first ramen experience and I was not disappointed! The menu and restaurant are small, with only about 6 tables and a few chairs at the bar. Food was delicious and affordable, I would highly recommend stopping by.Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options availableParking: There's only street parking, no parking lot“
“Love the family night out vibe this place has. Family friendly restaurant or a cute date night. Definitely worth the try if you’re in the NE and want to support local. I previewed how fresh everything was made to order and easy to make conversation without loud television overwhelming the restaurant. Would definitely come back again!“
“Really good. There's free 90mins parking. The staff are fantastic. Very fast, attentive, and professional service. There are booths for some privacy as well as tables in the dining area. Their yam tempura is amazingly crispy! So good! I also really liked the spicy tuna rolls.“
“Ordered take out for kids and guests. It was outstanding and probably the best sushi we’ve ever had - and it was ordered out! The prawn tempura was crisp and amazing. The seafood on the sushi and the sashimi were fresh and were huge portions. Totally fresh and delicious. The rolls were also excellent. Totally happy!“
“We always love going here, the food is great, the atmosphere is very nice with a small fish pond at its center and the staff are wonderful! We often go for their lunch specials, which is a great price for the amount of food you get, and if you're planning a date, try their love boat it's great for sharing!“
“Kinjo Sushi & Grill offers a mixed lunch experience. While the sushi and ramen are passable, the standout is definitely the delicious salmon sashimi. Despite some inconsistencies, the prices are reasonable, making it a decent spot for a casual lunch.“
“I love the idea but I think they can do better. Good selection of toppings but the problem is the rice. Rice inside Inari (the pocket) was pretty dry and cold. If you have inari at a sushi restaurant before you know it should be moist, a bit sweet and sour like the rice itself should be tasty. But don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed those “pockets” and am willing to come back for more. Their fish cake udon was not worth it tho imo. Service was good, very friendly. There was only 1 guy doing everything and running back and forth, you could tell he was trying his best.“
