Both of these staff members made it truly an unforgettable visit…they both went above and beyond, and interacted with our children throughout the entire meal and made it an incredible experience for our entire family. This is definitely more than just a restaurant - it is absolutely an experience and we would recommend 100% (especially for kids - they won’t stop talking about how much fun they had)!“

“I recently visited Kujira Sushi & Izakaya and was thoroughly impressed. The fish was incredibly fresh—every piece of sashimi melted in my mouth, and the sushi rice was perfectly seasoned.

What really stood out, though, were the unique specials on the menu. They offer some creative dishes you won't find at your typical Japanese restaurant—definitely worth trying if you're looking for something beyond the usual rolls.

The service was warm and attentive throughout our meal. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and were happy to explain the more unusual items on the menu.

“I went with my two very young daughters for lunch and we all shared an absolutely delicious bowl of traditional ramen on a slow weekday afternoon. The server was lovely and brought child friendly dishes for the girls. (they also enthusiastically slurped soup noodles and loved the soup too).

Also kudos on a happily accessible restaurant and ladies washroom where things like the mirror and sink and dryer were at a height someone in a wheelchair could actually use(I can't speak for the men's).“

“Excellent experience both times we came. Impeccable service that was welcoming and kind. They offered us hot towels and a container to put my bag. The menu is slick and not over complicated. The food quality is unmatched. The fish is so fresh and buttery. The rice is done uniquely with a fluffy texture in each roll. Their grilled squid dish is so flavorful and tender. This is a pricey experience, but it lives up to the quality of the fish and delicate preparation of each item. This is one of the few locations in Calgary where you can get Hamachi or Yellowtail. The only item lacking was the matcha experience; the grilled match mochis were a tad underwhelming, but not enough to deduct any points. Highly recommend this resturant for a high quality, fancier eating experience.“

“I was shocked by the good quality of the poke bowl of Netsui Sushi! The vegetables are very fresh and delicious and the style of the poke looks artistic ! I really enjoyed it. “I almost don’t want to write this review because I’m scared it will become even harder to get a reservation but credit absolutely needs to be given to Zushi Calgary.
Hidden inside Avenida Market in south Calgary, this tiny 4-seat omakase experience feels like stepping into a cozy Tokyo Tsukiji Market. We were lucky enough to book the Omakase experience for 4 adults, and every moment was unforgettable.
If you are looking for a luxury fine dining room with fancy decor and white tablecloths, this is probably not it and that is exactly why we loved it so much. It feels authentic, like sitting inside a hidden fish market sushi spot in Tokyo 築地 where the entire focus is on the chef, the fish, and the experience itself.

The chef carefully prepared and plated each piece of sushi like a work of art. Not only was everything visually stunning, but the umami flavors were absolutely mouthwatering .Every bite felt like a masterpiece. This experience left us so happy and satisfied, and we even ordered extra scallops and salmon because they were just that incredible.

What surprised us even more was how reasonable the pricing was for this intimate omakase experience. Every single plate was thoughtfully crafted, and you can truly feel the passion and care behind the experience.

We left with full stomachs, huge smiles, and immediately booked our next omakase for next month already.“

“I love koji Katsu! They recently opened this year and I love that they’re adding and improving their menu. I definitely recommend their assorted Katsu, it’s a huge portion of their three types of Katsu (tenderloin, shrimp, and cheese) with rice soup and salad. You can easily share this with two people! And I love their Katsu sando (sandwich). The bread is so tender and it tastes like the one in Japan. They have great service and are really open to feedback! A great local place in the city“

“It was our second visit. We ordered a number of different dishes, and all of them were very good! They also offer happy hour drinks on weekend nights, which was a nice bonus. The servers were friendly, and we loved the vibe of the restaurant as well.
Overall, it was a great experience except for one thing. We had to wait for more than 15 minutes in the waiting area, which was separated by a door, so we couldn’t see inside the restaurant. Because there was another group waiting ahead of us, we simply assumed the restaurant was full and busy.
One staff member took the group ahead of us without acknowledging us or letting us know how long the wait would be. We continued waiting, and after another 5 minutes or so, a staff member finally came out and asked if we had been helped.
Once we went inside, I was surprised to see that there were actually several empty tables. The restaurant didn’t seem very busy or understaffed either, since we only saw only one team leaving while we were waiting.
It would have been much nicer if there hadn’t been a sign saying “Please wait to be seated,” or if the staff had communicated better with each other so we could have been seated earlier instead of waiting unnecessarily. Another group waiting behind us even ended up leaving, so the restaurant lost that opportunity as well.
Because of that experience, I’m taking one star off.“

“This place I like. Their sushi tastes much better than a lot of places in Calgary and reasonable rates. I would love it more if they have more sushi nigiri combos catering to Koreans and Japanese and most of the time the sushi combinations tend to cater to westerners where it’s mostly salmon and tuna when there’s a whole world of ika, uni, scallops, ikura, hamachi, tako, masago, etc and that’s because I trust this place can deliver the quality.“

The portion are really good, even the cabbage salad. I can say it is one of the best katsu too. My son ( 5yrs old) loves it and he even ask for more.

“The best culinary experience you could possibly get for the price. The food was prepared with the upmost attention to detail. We did the Yakitori Omakase (15 course meal with drink pairings). The specially reserved seats in front of the kitchen offer a show, not just the meal. Our server Adam provided an 11/10 service, explaining the intricacies of each dish and how the each drink was tied into the given course. They also offer you the option to purchase 3 ounces of the 45 day beeswax aged A5 Waygu (which we also purchased and highly recommend to take in the full experience). You will not leave hungry, or unsatisfied in any way. If you’re in Calgary, you have to visit Shokunin.“

Also, after visiting NYC, San Fran, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal Takumi ranks in our top places. We order from skip the dishes monthly but prefer to come in for cold sake, great service and exquisitely prepared sushi/sashimi.
