One of the best veggie platters I’ve had in Calgary! The flavors were incredibly rich and satisfying. Every dish we ordered felt fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The injera was soft and perfectly tangy, and the lentils, greens, and stews were all so well-seasoned. The welcoming service and a cozy atmosphere made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try authentic Ethiopian cuisine!

I’ve been searching for a great Ethiopian restaurant in Calgary ever since Marathon closed, and it’s been tough to find one that truly delivers on authenticity and flavor. Having spent a fair bit of time traveling through Ethiopia, I’ve developed a strong palate for the cuisine, and Alpha Bar and Restaurant absolutely nails it.
I was especially excited to find shiro tegabino on the menu—something I’ve struggled to find here—and it was phenomenal. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly textured, just as I remember from Ethiopia. We also ordered the yetsom beyaynetu (vegetarian platter), and every single dish on it was fantastic.
Pricing is also very reasonable.
Of all the Ethiopian restaurants I’ve tried in Calgary, this one is hands-down the best. Highly recommend!

Vegetarian options: The Veggie platter is very tasty and filling
I am vegan and ordered the Yetsom Beyaynetu. It was delicious and so filling! It was cooked with so much flavour and they didn’t use too much oil.
Vegetarian options: Yetsom Beyaynetu is a vegan friendly platter on injera with an assortment of cooked vegetables and lentils. The injera is a protein rich food.
