The variety on the platter was excellent: delicious lentils, hearty greens, colorful veggies, crisp salad, and rich sauces that had great depth and spice. The berbere and awaze sauces added perfect heat and tang. Presentation was beautiful and inviting, and the portions were generous enough for a satisfying meal.

I’ve been searching for a great Ethiopian restaurant in Calgary ever since Marathon closed, and it’s been tough to find one that truly delivers on authenticity and flavor. Having spent a fair bit of time traveling through Ethiopia, I’ve developed a strong palate for the cuisine, and Alpha Bar and Restaurant absolutely nails it.
I was especially excited to find shiro tegabino on the menu—something I’ve struggled to find here—and it was phenomenal. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly textured, just as I remember from Ethiopia. We also ordered the yetsom beyaynetu (vegetarian platter), and every single dish on it was fantastic.
Pricing is also very reasonable.
Of all the Ethiopian restaurants I’ve tried in Calgary, this one is hands-down the best. Highly recommend!

I am vegan and ordered the Yetsom Beyaynetu. It was delicious and so filling! It was cooked with so much flavour and they didn’t use too much oil.

Very small place with little seating available. Not ideal for large parties with the small platter being hard to reach. The food was delicious though. The serving size is average. We had Leb Leb Kitfo and Tibs (I recommend the red)
