On Sunday, I got up early to grab a morning coffee at Analog on 17th Street. By the time I arrived, just before 9 a.m., the place was already half full—it’s really popular! Actually, I had visited this café on my third day in Calgary, but it was so crowded then that I had to get my coffee to go. The latte is consistently good, and the almond croissant tastes amazing.

Right at the entrance, there’s a big sign saying they “welcome all races and genders,” but the staff here are clearly racist. I’m an Asian immigrant who has lived in Canada for 15 years — there’s absolutely no way I can’t speak English, and there’s no way they couldn’t understand me. Yet, the employees kept pretending not to understand my English, unnecessarily asking me to repeat myself multiple times, and their expressions and tone were extremely rude. Even after my coffee was ready, they didn’t bother telling me; instead, they were too busy chatting among themselves. It’s unbelievable that such racism still happens in Canada, a country full of immigrants. I will never visit this café again, and I strongly urge the owner to properly train their staff.

I had a really disappointing experience at this location. I ordered a vanilla coffee, but it didn’t taste right, so I politely asked for it to be remade. The employee with short curly black hair seemed to have a terrible attitude — she didn’t make eye contact, just took the cup and remade it without saying anything. After that, I saw her chatting and gossiping with other staff instead of showing any professionalism.
For nearly $7, I expect at least a decent drink and respectful service — not attitude and gossip. I won’t be coming back, and I’ll be letting my family and friends know to avoid this location.
To the owner or manager: you may want to have a meeting with your employees — especially some of the female staff — because that kind of poor attitude is driving customers away.
