A legendary restaurant: some best desserts local to Alberta and Calgary . Full of history and close to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.

We ended up stopping in with the intention to enjoy a slice of pie and a coffee and ended up having a great lunch with coffee and pie to finish. This is a classic old school joint with character and personality, I'm glad nothing has changed over the years and it's stayed close to its roots. A true piece of Calgary history
Damn fine pie
We sat for 30+ minutes before the waitress got around to even bringing us water and it was over an hour before we got food. The food quality was poor, the fries felt they had been sitting out for a couple hours, and my beef dip had beef on only about half the bun. Overall it felt like a waste of time and money.
Classic! Can’t beat it
Our waitress was friendly & service was quick. I would recommend the 9.50 breakfast with 2 sausage 2 eggs hash browns & 1 toast. It was delicious 😋... Will return to try out the desserts...
Our trip to YYC wouldn’t be complete without his slice of lemon meringue pie, which has a thin, light crust, tart, smooth lemon custard, and a pillow of meringue. Happy 😊.
A must-try.
Most iconic classics in Calgary! Love BFD

I have been going here my whole life and our last stop as we had not been here for 5 years was disgusting. The veal cutlets one tiny tough little piece half cooked veggies and I had to go find the waitress after waiting 20min and still she had not come back to take the order and it was not busy only had 3 tables and 2 waitresses. Ours was not the good one. The pies don't look the same either so shameful to see the decline.
I went in to eat with my family, waiting by the door because there was a sign that said “Please wait to be seated”.
We waited a few minutes then a server walks by and says “anywhere down the middle”. Her tone of voice and the way she said it just seemed unwelcoming. But we brushed it off because we like this place and have ate here a lot before.
We walk down the middle, the only table available was dirty, had used towels and had dishes on there still. We decided just to sit at another table on the side. We waited for a few minutes, the server then brought the cutlery but practically dropped them on the table.
We were ready to order our drinks but she said she’ll give us a few minutes not giving us a chance to talk/order. We left it alone again.
My son wanted an ice cream or milkshake. While me and my partner were trying to talk with him telling him to choose only one. The server came back, interrupted our conversation and told our son with a rude tone/attitude “ice cream machine is broke, no ice cream today” even my son looked at me thinking why is she mad? She did not say sorry and treated all of us as if we were not welcomed.
My son is only 7 years old, I have never experienced a server talking to a child or children with such an ugly rude attitude and tone. After the way she spoke to my son we decided to leave.
This place used to be the best, I grew up coming here with my own parents/grandparents but over the years it has gone downhill.
Amazing experience every visit. My wife and I have been coming here for years. Friendly staff and consistently enjoyable food. They have taken steps to modernize while maintaining a vintage truck stop vibe.
This diner is absolutely beautiful on the inside, filled with Americana and an assortment of kitsch trinkets speckled throughout. A model train circles the diners on a track suspended below the ceiling.
Despite it not being that busy when we walked in, at around 5:15, the two waitstaff seemed overwhelmed. When our order was being taken, we got ID'd, and when satisfied with our credentials, the waitress hurried off before we could continue ordering. It took an inordinate amount of time to get what we first ordered, two beers. At that point we put in our orders. Our waitress was curt, and seemed to be in a rush, cutting off my partner before he could finish stating his initial order. We didn't exactly feel welcome. Our food was finally served a little after 6. The poutine was quite good. The gravy seemed to be of the chicken and mushroom variety, and was well thickened. The crinkle cut fries were crisp and hot, and although the curds weren't large, they were plentiful, room temperature, and tastefully arranged. 8.5/10 on the poutine. My partner's club sandwich, on the other hand, was dry, and the side of crinkle cut fries were not hot. They were unapologetically lukewarm. 5/10. We finished eating at about 6:15 and were paid up by 6:25.
It's possible that our waitress was simply in a bad mood, or having a bad day, but whatever the case, her tension was palpable, and it resulted us feeling like we shouldn't have come here. That, plus the food and drinks taking a very long time despite their simplicity and the waitress's fast pace. Maybe the result of understaffing?
If you haven't been to the Blackfoot Truckstop recently, you are truly missing out!
There is now a quaint patio, licensed for adult beverages, and dinner service with linen napkins to enhance their amazing food and famous Flapper pie!
Annie is exceptional, going the extra mile to ensure my cravings were well sated.
Thank you for reviving this integral part of Calgary's culture.
