My family and I ate here and had a wonderful dinner after a long travel day. The staff were amazing, friendly, welcoming and great suggestions on food. I had their delicious salmon and my husband had the ribeye that was amazing cooked just how he likes. We also ordered their bacon wrapped scallops several nights during our stay from the snug their bar in another part of the lodge. 100% recommend.

We have always enjoyed the atmosphere at BC. They serve one of the best burgers and fries in the city. We should visit more often in the future.

We had two very tasty steaks and a great whiskey tasting. As a German, this was the first time in Canada I'd had a beer that wasn't too weak – a great local beer. The waiter is a cool guy.

Matt and the Buchanan team were super from the welcome at the door to the outstanding food! If you are looking for beautifully presented and tasty food I would definitely recommend.

It had been a long time since eating at Buchanan's, but I had good memories of their burger. My spouse and I went for a change of pace. She had the filet mignon, which she loved. She even let me have a bite - it was scrumptious. I had the bacon cheeseburger to see if it was still great. It is now my #1 burger. It must be ground chuck and it's thick. A bit hard to handle, but a masterpiece. No inferior fries either. Fresh, home cut fries cookeed just right. What a meal. We won't wait as long for the next visit.

Our waiter Dean was attentive, friendly, very knowledgeable on the wine we drank. Food was almost 5 out of 5. Hadn't been there in 30 years! The fact that they're still in business says a lot about their business! Will go back very soon.
If you like steak and whiskey like I do, this is, in my opinion, as good as any other such restaurant in the world that I’ve been to which specializes in both.
The only thing that would make the service 5-star is if they had a whiskey guru working the bar who knew their whiskies like those often found in other similar establishments that I have found elsewhere around the world.
But thanks to Buchanan’s I learnt about Alberta Prime Cask Strength Single Grain Rye which absolutely blew me away. As good as anything I’ve had in Scotland. Ok, it’s not peated which is my fave, but with the flavour profile and richness, I didn’t need the peat to get that full-bodied boldness I’ve come to love in whiskey.
And now for the best part - Alberta steaks. Grass fed and deep beefy flavours (unlike tender-only, bland USA stuff) that is tender and hearty. Now, that’s something else! Reminds me of Tasmanian and New Zealand beef, arguably the best non-wagyu beef in the world.
Alberta, you’re kick-ass!! And Buchanan’s will give you that Alberta experience in Calgary.
Hint: Come on a Friday night and get their T-bone special for 2!

An excellent place for burgers. It hasn't changed materially in about a decade - at least, that is how long I've been going there. That is a good thing. They don't fiddle with something that works.

Disappointing overall. We had never been here before and thought it could be a really great “old school” gem. It was very quiet for a Saturday night which is never a good sign. We all ordered the 6 oz filet mignon as they are a chophouse. Came with a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and some vegetables for $53. Not great value at all compared to other chop houses. It also must take a special skill to cook one small steak so unevenly - medium well to rare. Others were fine but mine was poor. Couldn't eat the rare part which is a real waste. Wine selection poor. Bruschetta had raisins it which I have never seen before and not a taste I would opt for again. We spent over $100 per person. Server seemed to be inexperienced. Both a server and food makes or breaks an overall experience. And this experience was poor.
The highlights is the burger; it is perfect for kids and family during happy hour. Highly recommended.

It's like coming home for a meal with family and good mates. Everything on the menu is delicious and service is always courteous, professional, and friendly. Great to be in the company of old fashioned professional restaurant staff!
