We were in for some NYE cocktails as Cleaver is one of our favourite spots for drinks and food. Cristian and his team’s service was impeccable and we absolutely love the attention to detail in each cocktail we enjoyed! Guinness pours are on point as well! Our server was excellent on suggesting cocktails, and once again we enjoyed all the creations from the expertise from Christian and his team! Thank you for making our night so very relaxing and memorable! We’ll be back very soon. Cleaver is a gem for food and cocktails.

The new owner and managers have put their heart in to this place, and you can tell. Everyone is very welcoming, the room is cozy, the cocktails are top notch, and the food is delicious - PLUS the prices are definitely fair (especially at happy hour)! This will remain a regular stop for me.

This place is incredible! It’s my go to for a night out. Perfect for drinks with friends or even a meal. Such great service, the bartenders are so nice and always ready to be friends. I love it here. Best happy hour too!

Daaaaang this place used to be so good. Unfortunately with the management change it seems to just be a glorified Boston pizza. No offence to Boston pizza. Cocktail creativity is gone and the food is just super basic, disappointing. I hope things improve cause this used to be the spot.

Best cocktail bar in Calgary. Ask Christian to make you a Shaft. It’s a drink? It’s a cake? Best shaft in the city? Try it yourself

This is not the Cleaver I loved. I'm not sure if it's new ownership but the chef is definitely new (as per the server), the menu has been cut at the knees, and the drinks? Some of the best drinks in Calgary are shadows of their former selves. They even got rid of the popcorn!

I used to tell people often to check out Cleaver, but I won't be doing that anymore.

My favorite drink was the PPWP, it used to be basically alcoholic lemonade with a little pulp, and a really cool candy like bubble filled with delicious smelling smoke. Now it's an off-yellow, Mr. Clean sensory experience with a bar staff using a smoke gun with a chemical odor and essential oils and "bubble solution" (still unclear if this is actually soap or not) that he tried to put on tableside as the bubble doesn't survive transport anymore? I hope they go back to what they once were, otherwise a complete rebrand should be done, this is not Cleaver.

Ah, the Cleaver. Where the aroma of exotic wood smoke clings to you like a culinary souvenir, and the food... well, it's a cut above mediocrity, isn't it?

Let's start with the positives. The steak, that cornerstone of any respectable meat-centric establishment, managed to hold its own. It wasn't just good; it was a reminder of why we carnivores still flock to these temples of beef. The salmon, swimming against the current of expectations, proved to be a worthy catch. And the burger? Well, in a city that takes its ground beef seriously, it stood tall and proud.

The Apple and Goat flatbread deserves a special mention. It's the kind of dish that makes you wonder why more chefs don't play matchmaker with these ingredients. It's a flavor pairing that sings in perfect harmony, like a duet between Mother Nature and a particularly inspired fromagier.

The service, I'm told, was as swift and efficient as a Calgary Stampede cowboy. In a world where good service is becoming as rare as a well-done steak in a French bistro, this is no small feat.

And the ambiance? It's like being wrapped in a smoky, wooden embrace. You'll leave smelling like you've been hugged by a very friendly cedar tree. It's comforting, in a primal, campfire sort of way.

Is Cleaver reinventing the wheel? No. But it's serving up solid, satisfying fare in an atmosphere that's as warm and inviting as a prairie sunset. It's the kind of place that might not set the culinary world on fire, but it'll certainly keep you warm on a chilly Calgary evening.

Was my favourite restaurant… until they changed the entire menu, it used to be so original now has the same food as everywhere else on 17th. So disappointing! Rip sliders :(

Cozy and private place, with a rustic feel. Food was great (bruschetta, chicken wings) and the "Caesar Stack" is a must-try for all Caesar lovers! A lot of cocktail mixes to choose from. Staff are very welcoming and accomodating.
