Slow and Bad service and RRRReally dirty! It'd never pass the food safety regulation, by any standard!
Huge portions and very tasty meat!

Authentic NE Chinese food! Tried their starch noodle salad and sweet and sour fish. The plaza is quite crowded with limited parking during peak dining hours.

Came to Calgary for some errands and stumbled upon this Northeastern Chinese restaurant before heading back to YEG. Ordered one veggie dish—Chilled Eggplant Salad—and one meat dish—Stir-Fried Pork Liver, plus two bowls of rice.
Here’s the breakdown:
🔸 Chilled Eggplant Salad: Refreshing and light. The sweet, sour, and savory flavors were well-balanced—something both northern and southern Chinese palates would appreciate. If you’re a white vinegar fan, this one’s a 5/5.
🔸 Stir-Fried Pork Liver: Personally felt like they might’ve skimped a bit on the cooking wine—the liver had a slight gamey taste. Still acceptable, but the flavor was a bit on the mild side. Maybe a splash more soy sauce would’ve done the trick? Taste is subjective, so I’m giving it a solid 4/5.
The lady boss was super friendly. They offer lunch specials with rice bowls, and the portion sizes are a bit above the Calgary average, though still not quite up to Northeastern China standards (we do eat big portions back home 😄).

10/10 hidden gem in Calgary, this spot deserves more attention! The food is top tier and the owner is really nice, so I keep on coming back. I highly recommend the dishes in this picture (these are half-eaten):

The girl server was so awesome. And the food is alright, I guess.
Only downside: 有点儿贵
A simple and small restaurant, but the food was absolutely delicious! Everyone in our group especially liked the cold dish. The flavor was great, and the quality of the food really stood out. The waitresses and the owner were friendly. We will definitely come back again!
Very good food and service
Tried Tian Cai on a friend’s recommendation, and now it’s our go-to spot for authentic Dongbei cuisine! The owners are from Harbin, and you can really taste those bold Northern Chinese flavors in every dish.
The food is not only delicious but also served in generous portions—and impressively fast. We’ve worked our way through a good chunk of the menu, and honestly, everything has been fantastic. If you’re looking for real Dongbei flavors, this place is a gem! (Sorry, lots of pics 😋🥹)
A traditional Northern Chinese restaurant with decent food quality.
