Ginger Garlic South Indian Restaurant Jacksonport

I don’t understand why there are so many negative comments. Having recently relocated to Calgary from Ontario, I find Ginger Garlic to be the only restaurant that offers a dining experience similar to those in Mississauga. While it may not be extraordinary, it is certainly worth returning to multiple times.

We recently dined here for their dinner buffet and it was superb. The buffet featured an impressive variety of authentic South Indian dishes.The curries were flavorful and delicious. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience that I highly recommend.

This review is purely an observation on the lack of organization, customer service focus and over stretched staff by the restaurant management.

When you enter, there is no greeting or they don’t even try to make you feel welcomed. You are immediately pressurized to pay for the sub par buffet worth $24.0. That’s right, the first thing you see is the card reader to pay for the buffet. It doesn’t end there. When you ask for the buffet menu, you are shown a picture in the waiters phone. Yes, the only menu that exists is on Facebook and the waiters phone.

Enter the second phase of this experience. I went inside the restroom with kids for hand wash and there was no soap or paper towel. Yes, both men’s and women’s bathrooms were out of soap. The cleaning log on the door said that restroom was last cleaned 2 months ago.

Is it rude to ask for a clean bathroom with a soap or hand wash ?

After I paid for the buffet, there were no plates to use in the buffet, customers, including me waited several minutes to get a plate. Most of the things were empty. I had to ask multiple times to get it refilled.

Now, trying to get a seat, most of the tables were dirty and not cleaned. We waited several minutes to get a clean table.

For me, it felt like the owners prioritized profit over customer service. They took the customer for granted. Wanting to use a clean bathroom or having plates and a clean place to eat food is considered demanding or rude, then I am one of those customers who care so much about the little things.

From the looks of it, the management staffed a single person to look after all these and he was exhausted and tired. I feel sorry for him. He did his best to take care of things. The problem is how the management tried to squeeze in every last dollars by under staffing the restaurant and not focusing on customer service.

We stopped by at this place on our way to Banff from Calgary airport. Coming from Texas, I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants but this place is hands down the best Indian food I’ve ever had. You can tell the food is authentic and things are made from scratch. My son wants to come back to Canada just for this place.

This is a place to come if you miss Kerala Food. AlFaham, Kizhi Biryani, Malabar Biryani, Chatti Choru and Fish Pakora is a must try.
