I've been coming to Higher Ground for many years now, and a particular encounter yesterday prompted me to send in a review.
I came in for a study session last night with some friends, and we had the extraordinary pleasure of getting to be served by Charlotte. What an outstanding atmosphere she brings to the cafe, incredibly friendly and personable.

This is one of my fav coffee shops and I enjoy their food and drinks. But this place is chronically understaffed. It takes forever to place an order and if you are getting food, you are usually waiting for 20 minutes or so (for them to warm to your burrito or whatever) which is somewhat unacceptable for a grab and go situation. I’m not sure why I would be leaving any tip for such slow service and I feel bad for their staff. Hope they fix this issue soon.

I usually have their desserts, and love that it’s open late. I usually go over with my friends to meet up after work.

I was there today and not really sure how to express my experience. The beverage I ordered was delicious, I can't remember the name but it was hot and pepperminty. The person I ordered it from was friendly and helpful. But it was after the ordering where my experience dramatically turned for the worse. As I sat and sipped at the bar area, I watched the service staff work. What became painfully clear, was that there was a particular server/barista there (I didn't quite catch her name but she wore pink glasses and had a ton of super cool tattoos) was really not nice to people who were ordering but especially to her coworkers. I sat astounded listening to her speak condescendingly to EVERY SINGLE person she worked with. I remember making eye contact with a taller woman who worked there after this person with the pink glasses spoken to her. I didn't quite hear what was said but by the tone, body language, and intonations in her voice, it was evident that she was treating her coworker with complete disrespect. The tall woman who had just been at the receiving end of her demeaning behavior, happened to look over my way and our eyes locked. She knew I had seen this exchange. I felt terrible for her and all the other people working there that bore the brunt of this woman with the pink glasses, unprofessionalism. I actually thought I was in the middle of a theatrical performance because it was so astounding how terrible she was treating pretty much everyone. Anyways, I called and the manager was amazing and professional and said that he was going to look into this. I am still going to post this review as I am sure I am not the only one who witnessed this astounding behavior and maybe more people can come forward.
