Always happy to support a small, local business, overall my experience at Koji Katsu was kind of mixed. The portion sizes are a definite highlight. They are very generous for the price, which makes it a good value. The yuzu sauce for the shrimp katsu was outstanding; it was a perfect, tangy complement that really elevated the dish. However, there were a few things that took away from the experience. The miso soup lacked flavor and tasted watered down; it could use more miso paste or seasoning in my opinion. I also felt the oil used for frying needed to be changed more often, as it gave the food a slightly off taste. I would caution against going on a hot day. It gets uncomfortably hot inside the restaurant, which made for a less than pleasant dining experience. Service was not bad, I wouldn’t say the server was particularly attentive, but when asking for water refills or the sauce for the cabbage salad they did get it fairly quickly. Overall, it's an okay spot, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made.

The food was nice But the server was very slow on everything. He took orders so late, didn't give pickles until we almost finished our dishes, and his breath was so bad.. I think there needs to be something done to the server here. The restaurant was hot, and the food came out so late as well.

Since this place switched to new management, it’s been going downhill.
The Katsu today - definitely had shellfish cross contamination - I did mention that I have an allergy. So that was not fun at all.
Also the fryer oil was rancid. All in all, not worth it.

Food is great. Usually the service is good but the last time I was there, it was not on point. The table was dirty, we had to ask the server to clean it and when i ordered a Coke Zero, she brought me a regular Coke. And they should work on their washroom, it was not really clean.

I believe they are the only place in calgary that serves Katsu Nabe! The taste is authentic as what you can get in Japan. The wait is long because you can’t really rush Katsu and they seems to have small staff as well. Worth every single minute of the wait time!!
I gave 18% tips. It's not because steaming hot room temperature (I was in sweating sauna), is not because the waitress spilled curry sauce on my kid's clothe when she clean other table, also not because nobody refilled our water cup so I have to find the jar to refill the water myself. It's all because I try to be nice and try to support local small business. Not recommended!!!

Pretty disappointing experience.
Came for lunch. There were two other tables there. The server didn’t even get us any water after we ordered. Had to go and serve ourselves water. And then food took close to an hour to cook. and then they missed one of the items in our order.
All around terrible customer service. Also, ever since the change in management, I feel like the quality of food has gone down too.

We came as a group of 5 for lunch. The menu said gratuity will be added for groups of more than 5, so we would assume 6. The food and service was good however when it came to billing no receipt was provided, the gratuity was added without notice, and we were prompted to double tip unknowingly. When we asked why the price was higher than the menu the waitress said that was the price. When we asked if gratuity is already added she didn’t respond. It doesn’t feel good being “tricked” to double tip unknowingly.

Recently visited Koji Katsu and ordered the Chicken Katsu curry. The food was delicious and exactly what I was hoping for. I’ve been meaning to try this dish for a while and was not disappointed. The server and the chef in the back both seemed very friendly, and the atmosphere was clean and inviting. I would recommend Koji Katsu and will definitely be going back! Thank you 10/10!
