Li-Ao is my favourite sushi restaurant in Calgary. The food is always so fresh and delicious! I’ve never been disappointed.
Also, if you haven’t met Henry, you need to!
Henry is such an incredible owner and truly adds something special to every visit. You can tell how much passion and care goes into both the food and customer experience.
10/10 highly recommend!

I've been ordering from Li-Ao for many years and they've never let me down. Best sushi in town! Friendliest staff, clean restaurant and fast service.

This place serves amazing Japanese food. Their sashini was as good as any I had in Vancouver. Perfectly cut, super fresh, and the size was just right. The miso soup was delicious and the house salad was generously portioned and tasted great.
I cannot praise this place enough. SO GOOD!

My boyfriend and I absolutely love this restaurant. We have a habit of ordering takeout from this location almost every weekend. The food never disappoints, the manager/staff are so friendly, and we will continue to eat here for years to come. Highly recommend!!

I placed an Uber order yesterday, and the udon soup we received was excessively salty — it seemed as if the concentrated soup base was given directly without dilution. The salt level was so high that the meat inside was practically cured. My child felt extremely unwell after eating it and nearly required medical attention. Even after adding one and a half times the amount of water, the soup remained unbearably salty. Please take this matter seriously; continuing to serve food at this level of quality will only drive customers away.

Some of the sushi was ok (Philly rolls), but some were just smashed into the container without a care in the world. And why does the fish from your rolls just stink so bad? Not a wonder I got sick. Awful. Lesson learned.

We’ve tried a number of sushi places in Calgary, and keep coming back to Li-Ao. While the food is outstanding (always fresh and prepared with care) it’s the staff that make this place incredible. They are genuinely happy to see you come through the door and are wonderful to deal with.

Best value and consistent quality versus other chains, even 1 of their salmon sashimi pieces are twice the size of a competitor (*injo). My go-to place for satisfying my sushi cravings

Pretty disappointed with our first impression.
Arrived and nobody seemed to want to say hi or greet us. The place was empty. Most places would either greet you right away, but the 5 people on staff didn’t seem to want to welcome or care. We felt like leaving, but decided to try anyways.
I don’t know if I ordered incorrectly, but the food on the menu vs the value of quality is way off.
I could get a better meal at Ryuko or Charcoal Ke with the same amount that I paid.
Miso Soup - tasted like it’s 2 days old and reheated.
House salad - chopped lettuce, 4 slithers of avocado with some tomatoes
The house rolls - glorified California roll with thin slices of salmon, tuna and shrimp.
Alberta rolls - complete disappointment vs charcoal kes or anywhere else.
Unagi roll - mostly sauce and the unagi pieces were used so sparingly.
Sashimi bowl - it was alright, but 50% of it was imitation crab.
The prices are competitively priced but the quality and value is not.
I could get a better meal for $65 at any other sushi place.
This is basically going for all you can eat sushi quality at a mark up.
[Business POV]
Food cost value ~ $6 - $12
Labor - ?
Operating - ?
From our meal I think they may have given us around 8-12% in margins, but I don’t think they would be able to retain new customers coming back with how it’s operating. If you’re losing customers due to quality/standards dropping/value - you need to do something to fix it asap or else a new competitor or the market changes and other businesses beat you out by being better and you being mediocre.

The quality is pretty good.
Always fresh and that's the most important thing!!!
The rolls and nigiri are done pretty well with the rice and fish ratio.
Easy to say this is the best in surrounding areas👌🏼
