To all of my relatives, friends and acquaintances in Calgary. May I share an incident that happened today so all of you would also take note and be careful about. We Filipinos - we are really used to buying lechon if we can afford it, maybe by the kilo or when we have money and the occasion, the whole lechon. But what really makes lechon so delicious? 80% of which is the crispy skin, right? Be honest – the meat comes next but the crispy skin comes first. So in my 70th birthday celebration which was initiated by close friends I thought of buying a whole lechon to make a difference - and I was told the MARKJOEL'S BBQ would be the best - so I ordered. The lechon was picked up by my sister and of course it was already in a box - no more inspection, but the seller said at that time, it was lucky because what was given to us was much bigger than what we ordered because they made a mistake...so my sister phoned me along the way to tell me how happy I was. When we opened the lechon – we were all aghast to note that the lower portion was burnt, the skin was not crispy instead it was stretched and thin as if deflated. So my friends said, Sister, you can't eat it, it's bitter because it's burnt - still, it's tender, the lower portion is true enough, no one dared to even pinch - so I phoned MarkJoel's and told them that - "I hope that's what I ordered you just gave me, I don't need a bigger one if it looks like this, so the person who answered said - go ahead, please just go back and I'll tell my boss, I'll reimburse the portion that can't be eaten, and so I did – to cut the story short – even though still sleepy, because the party ended late, I need to return the portion that was not eaten to also show them how that looks. (PICTURE OF THE LECHON AT THE TIME WE OPENED IT – ATTACHED TO THIS LETTER). When I went back to MARKJOEL'S BBQ, I was so frustrated that I guess it was the owner himself who confronted me to tell me "Madam, it's not fire!", look I scape, so he did, but of course the eye can see he had a hard time scraping it, he showed me the inside, didn't he – the inside is natural, not burnt – the complaint is the burnt skin, not the inside or the flesh. BUT WHAT WAS SO FRUSTRATING WAS, HE WANTED TO PROVE HIS POINT THAT IT WASN'T FIRE BY SUBTLY TELLING ME "YOU KNOW, I KNOW YOU, I KNOW YOUR FAMILY, YOU HAVE BEEN BUYING HERE AND DOING THIS", subtly as if I had been accused of being a SCAMMER ME, that I will buy then return and ask for refund. YOU KNOW I'M NOT USED TO LOUD CONFRONTATION ESPECIALLY AT THE GROCERY STORE – BUT MY BODY SHAKES SO MUCH WITH ANGER, it's like they made me look like I AM A SCAMMER with all the onlookers – just for the good of myself and my heart, I TOLD MARKJOEL – THAT I DO NOT NEED THE MONEY, I ASKED HIM TO SHOW THE PROOF THAT I HAD BEEN BUYING AND DOING THIS, THEN I TURNED MY BACK NEVER LOOK BACK. HOPEFULLY, I was expecting that – even if I was told a little bit sorry, it doesn't have to go to the refund if they don't have the money I re refund, but the ACCUSATION OF YOU AS A SCAMMER – SHAKES MY FLESH. I am sharing you these, not to discourage you from buying lechon at this outlet, I am just SHARING MY EXPERIENCE. TO YOU MARKJOEL – IF YOU ARE THE ONE WHO SHOWED ME DISRESPECT BY SUBTLY ACCUSING ME – I HOPE YOUR BUSINESS PROGRESS, and yes, if you have the proof because you have the record of all those who ordered from you – present your proof to all courts if you want and charge me for being a SCAMMER.

When we opened the lechon – we were all aghast to note that ang lower portion ay sunog, ang balat hindi malutong instead makunat at manipis parang na deflate ba. So sabi ng mga kaibigan, Ate, isoli mog rabe hindi makakain yan, mapait dahil sunog – still, hinain, true enough yung lower portion no one dared to even pinch – so I phoned MarkJoel’s and told them that – “Sana yung inorder ko na lang ang binigay ninyo sa akin, I don’t need a bigger one kung ganito naman ang itsura, so sabi ng sumagot – sige po, paki balik na lang at I tell my boss, I reimburse ang portion na hindi makakain, and so I did – to cut the story short – kahit antok pa, dahil late na natapos ang party, I need to return the portion that was not eaten para din to show them how that looks. Will NOT recommend Markjoel’s BBQ. I ordered a medium size lechon but they gave me what I can say “smaller than a small size”. Sobrang payat ng baboy that I can grab the mid-part of it using my hands. I have pictures to prove it. The lady offer me to give an additional ulo in return or get a $25 reimbursement. I even ask her if she is willing to pay $367.00 for that kind of lechon and she can’t answer me. I told her na kumpleto naman ang bayad ko but I did not get my money’s worth. I even have to look closely at the pig to make sure na baboy nga sya. Hindi kc ako makapaniwalang may baboy na ganun kapayat. So if you are looking for lechon, don’t make the same mistake I did. I am saving you the hassle and the stress. I will never order from them again.

I ordered lechon last Saturday and it was not thoroughly cooked, what a dissapointment again. I had a bad experience with them before but i gave them a second chance. And to my surprised it got worse. And when i called to inform them what happened they just said they will give me a discount when i order again. There will be no next time.

Do your self a favor and prevent disappointment, don’t buy here we had a very bad experience, they are selling bad and old smelly pork/head lechon. ( I bought here pork head lechon to make sisig, $35 when the guy/kid give us the lechon I smelled something is off, when I got home and started working in it my kids complained and my kitchen smelled really really bad. I don’t want to drive and come back to the store I just tossed it in the garbage and forget about it. I will never ever going to buy there.
