Overall our dinner at Mercato West was good with pleasant ambiance and an excellent server. We enjoyed the food, except for the shrimp pasta special. The shrimps were small - with half a shell and tail left on each shrimp which made eating them very awkward! Also I was treating my friend for her birthday which was noted in the online Open Table reservation. The server also asked what occasion we were celebrating. There was ultimately no recognition or offer of anything for her birthday, so I wonder why bother asking about the occasion?

Overall food and service was very good, however I did have an “odd” experience. I arrived less than 10 minutes before my reservation time, ie 5:20 vs 5:30pm. The hostess said to come back and perhaps go to the market and look around as the restaurant was not open. Fair enough, but can I suggest at least having a chair/bench in the foyer area to accommodate for such situations. (as I had no interest in going into the market area).

The food and service at Mercado is always top-tier. It’s my favourite place to bring friends or family when I’m hosting people because I know it will always be an incredible experience. Some of my personal favourite dishes are the Caesar salad and the tagliatelle and the Bistecca.

Mercato West is an absolute gem. This family-owned Italian restaurant delivers everything you hope for in an upscale dining experience, and then some! The food is outstanding: beautifully prepared, impeccably fresh, and full of authentic Italian flavor. Recently I had the Penne with the Calabrese Sausage which is now my favourite pasta in the city! Service is attentive with their staff being knowledgeable, polished, and truly passionate about the menu. The wine list is well-curated, offering something for both casual sippers and serious vino enthusiasts. When you walk in, I like to think of it as a ‘choose your own adventure’ evening. You can either head to the restaurant side (make a reservation in advance) to enjoy a 5-star dinner, or head to the pizzevino for a more casual feel, or grab something homemade from their market to prepare at home. A must-visit spot in Calgary for special occasions or anytime you want an unforgettable evening!
Service & food amazing as always. Like to sit at the bar, perfect for 2 people. You also get to watch the chefs in the kitchen making the dishes. Highly recommend this restaurant

Mercato had been our favourite restaurant for many years. Last night meal really disappointed us. Shrimp appetizer lacked flavours and sauce very runny. Agnello lamb was too raw with veins and very chewy. 5 little rounds for $61. Previous rack of lamb was much tastier. Bistecca beef was slightly burnt and had to cut and chew. Previous cuts of beef used to be so tender. Asparagus was tasty but very little pieces. Insalada Indiva and truffle fries tasty. Server was great. Maybe they have a new chef as we haven't been for awhile

As per usual the food was really great. We had the risotto started with the muscles and shrimp then we shared the meal for 4 people that included the roasted chicken spicy sausage and steak with potatoes. We had wine and some cocktails. Our server was not very attentive and it took a while to get him to take drink orders and get refills on wines. He was very nice but not very organized. Our meal for 4 people was $500 which is out of this world expensive. I'd pay that for a Michelin star meal but this was not that it is crazy how much they can charge for food right now. All in all it was a good experience our waiter was not very attentive, but some people just have those days. We will only come back maybe once every year because of the cost of the meal. 
I had the calamari and it gave me severe food poisoning for 3 days. Please cook your seafood properly.

We have been to Mrcato before, and had a great experience, with our food & service level. Yesterday, was quite the opposite! The waiter, Alp, was brisk, to the point of Rude!! I ordered the same Pasta, as I did the last time, Penne- with Calabrese sausage, and asked for Tagliatelle, instead of Penne. After an extremely long wait, our food arrived. I noticed that the Pasta used was Linguini, not Tagliatelle! The waiter argued with me that it was Tagliatelle! Everyone at the table disagreed. But he refused to take it back. I know what Tagliatelle is!! Horrible experience!
