Sad to hear this long standing restaurant will be closing after this Easter weekend. Parking was always a challenge in Kensington. We remember the former Jazz dinner venue with its 3 story in restaurant palm tree. The building needs upgrades and the first table we were seated at in the lowest level of the restaurant had a odour of sewage ... we requested to be reseated and the upper level was fine. However a little cool. Server “Dani” was excellent. Food good and hot, wine was excellent and not too expensive.

The food was delicious and the service was great. The Wednesday Date special was a great deal. I enjoyed the wide variety of interesting tasty sides that were offered. The ceasar was delicious. The wine included was very good as well. We enjoyed the baked Alaska dessert. Our waiter had so much personality and was wonderful.

Went for the YYC Food Exp 2024. Came a bit early, and the restaurant was empty, but filled up quickly for a Sunday night. Despite being a full restaurant, the noise level stayed fairly quiet, and there was a good amount of space between us and the next table over. Beef tartare was delicious. The prawns were cooked perfectly, and the cocktail sauce it came with was very good. Usually, I'm not a fan of cocktail sauce, because it can go heavy with the horseradish flavour, but it wasn't too strong and was balanced with something else I couldn't identify. Scallop risotto was very good, and I appreciated that the scallops were not diced and mixed in, but rather featured on top, whole. Scallops were also cooked well. The surf and turf was very good, but I found the mashed potatoes it came on to be a little on the bland side. I would have appreciated a little more sauce to mix with the mash, or some flavouring, and that the steak was not placed directly on top, stacked like a tower. The creme brulee finish was delicious. I'm usually not a fan of creme brulee, because I often find the custard way too sweet, but the flavour was mild, and the crust was perfect all the way around. It was served in a shallow ramekin that ensured you get a perfect bite with custard and crust every time right to the end. The non-alcoholic cocktail (Tropical Dream) was very very good. I've always loved the Moderns (Steak/Ocean) and would come back.

Modern Steak in Kensington vastly exceeded my expectations. The food was fantastic and our server, Naz, was knowledgeable and highly service oriented. The restaurant manager was also a pleasure to interact with. Hats off to Modern Steak for an incredible dining experience.

We had to come one more time after hearing they're selling the building. We love modern streak and this location holds so many special memories for us. The meal was fantastic and the service was above exceptional. This location will be missed!!! Also, from all of us patrons that night, thank you for throwing out the drunk idiots trying to break dishes and passing out at the table.
We had an excellent experience at Modern. Our server was highly knowledgeable of the menu and attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional. We tried the filet trio and enjoyed sampling the different steaks but especially the wagyu, which was divine! The lemon drop martini was also fabulous!
This place can make you feel alive! The food is perfect!!!Special thanks for our server Naz! He is soooo thoughtful and super nice! You will feel like he is your best friend!Highly recommended!!! We will be back for SURE!

My husband and I just had our anniversary dinner at Modern steak Kensington and we Loved it!The food was delicious, drinks on point, dessert to die for! But what made our night even more amazing was the service we got from Marina!! This lady delivers a 5 star service! It was our first time here, and she made sure we understood the menu, recommended some great dishes and even entertained us with some steak history ;) absolutely amazing service!! We got a complementary tuna appetizer, a delicious chocolate dessert and a very thoughtful card for our anniversary.Thank you so much to Marina and the modern steak team for making our night unforgettable!
