Went to Modern Steak and reserved “date night “ looking forward to a great deal of $108.00. Chose the wine and the sides and the steak . The menus were given to us with no explanation so assumed that we picked the steak ( with the exception the wagu) . Picked the rib eye bone in - still no mention that it was a significant difference. When the showed up we were shocked it was part of the steak night and even mentioned that once server . Still no mention it was different . We got the bill and it is now $302.40 . A far cry from the $108 we were expecting . Now I understand that we received a superior steak but no information or guidance was given by our sever . I just thought I ordered a regular rib eye with a bone in . So now our very affordable night has turning to a near $400 night with a tip my husband left that I personally would not of left . Your severs need to be very clear about the petal items of date night . Won’t be back unless there is some resolve .

We took our Management team out from CEFA Calgary South and Beltline and we all enjoyed dinner a lot. The steaks were perfect, and the sides were really good! Service was great and the ambiance was very nice, and relaxing !

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Modern Steak Southport in Calgary, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience! The steaks were absolutely tender and cooked to perfection - truly impressive. The side dishes were also delicious and complemented the steaks beautifully.

But what truly made our experience stand out was our waiter, Brendan. Brendan was knowledgeable, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing time. He educated us on the wine variety and shared fascinating insights into the grass-fed meat history, which added a whole new layer of appreciation to our meal.

Brendan's exceptional service was the highlight of our visit, and I highly recommend Modern Steak Southport to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience, whether it's for corporate events or family gatherings. The combination of outstanding food and exceptional service makes it a must-visit destination in Calgary. Shockingly, this was our first Modern Steak experience. I’d always heard about it - just never came.

I friend shared their experience (including a photo) on LinkedIn last week… and here we are. Definitely upscale from places like the Keg, food quality on par with Chairmans and Major Toms.

Arrived just after 5:30, no reservation, no problem, the hostess sat us in a quiet booth.

Our server, Emily, was excellent; attentivene, knew the menu, our water never got low… just perfect.

I had the 14oz ribeye, medium rare, lobster tail. My wife; the curried haddock.

Our sides; broccolini (thanks, Jay), leaks (with bacon), and those damn good fries.

Dessert - that baked Alaska - the server that brought it out lights it on fire, which is always fun to watch.

Drinks: wife for Mrs F, a glass of wine that she loved, and an decent Old Fashioned for me - they make their own ice with an M over bar on it. Classy.

Half way through, the restaurant manager checked in on us which is a nice touch.

Food and service was excellent, and if there’s one recommendation, it’s the music - personally, I don’t think it matched the atmosphere. What do I know though - I don’t own a restaurant. LOL

This was our first time at Modern Steak and our server, Amy, did such a wonderful job. Not only was she very well versed in all portions of the menus but she also had great recommendations and ideas for us. She was very attentive, and constantly made sure to check on us, she showed true passion for Modern Steak. We did the Date Night special and our steaks were cooked to perfection, our sides (Brussels and Spaghetti Bolognese) were absolutely to die for.

I am so impressed with the atmosphere and the impeccable staff of Modern Steak. I will be coming back here not only for the steaks but for our amazing new friend Amy!

My husband and I came for the Tuesday tomahawk special. Service was great. Majority of the food was great. We had oysters but the mignonette served really lacked flavour and was quite bland. Our tomahawk was ordered medium rare but it unfortunately was served closer to medium well. We were too hungry to send it back and wait for another steak. The lobster poutine was great and I definitely would go back just for that again.

We had a family gathering at the restaurant, it was one of the best restaurant experiences we have had for a large group booking .

Out host Andy was amazing and made the nights experience an exceptional one .

I highly recommend this restaurant and the staff that make everyone feel at home .

Came in for the date night special during August, and Bjorn provided the most excellent experience for us. Food was delicious and priced very well. Will be coming back! Thank you Modern and Bjorn.
