Modern Steak Southport Road

One of my favorite places to eat when I visit calgary. Never had a bad experience and the steaks are always amazing.

For the price the food and service here just don't live

Before visiting, we had heard from many that this was the place to go in Calgary for steak. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the reputation.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by an unpleasant odor in the restaurant. The host who seated us smelled strongly of freshly smoked cigarettes — not something we expected from a supposedly high-end dining establishment. It left a poor first impression.

On a positive note, our server was attentive, friendly, and provided great service throughout the evening.

We ordered the bone-in ribeye (around $75), expecting top-tier quality. My partner asked for medium and I asked for medium rare, but they came out undercooked — hers closer to medium rare, mine more like rare. While we didn’t make a fuss over that, the bigger issue was the lack of seasoning and the overly charred exterior of the steak.

For the price and the build-up, we left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. Great service, but unfortunately the food and overall experience missed the mark.

Amazing food, staff and service. The manager Natasha went out of her way to make it special for me, my wife and daughter. Definitely recommend and we will be back.

I made a reservation for the Father’s Day dinner with Modern Steak last night and was honestly a little nervous bringing my kids; especially my 3 year old with complex allergies. This was the first time dining in a more upscale restaurant where my son hasn’t been relegated to a plate of fries or a bowl or rice. I can’t fully express how incredible it was to have delicious and healthy options for my son - this was the first time where he’s been able to have a starter, main and dessert that met all his allergy needs. Keep being awesome Modern!

Exquisite food and service

I would say the experience with the staff was great. Friendly kind attentive but not overly attentive. The one downfall and it will keep me from coming back are the prices. I mean we're talking about $1,000 for three Kobe steaks. That's gouging. For date night for $108 one side one entree and a bottle of wine. Okay fine but when you see the big plate come with just a piece of meat in the center of it no trimmings not plated very nicely at all, then I feel like I've been scammed. I mean it literally went with the steak from the grill onto the plate and that was it. Sorry Modern Steak but the Keg is kicking your ass with their sides flavors and presentation. But once again I would like to shout out to the staff as they were very professional and kind. At the end of the day though friendly staff does not make up for a $300 steak.

First time so went for the happy hour 4 to 5:30 steak specials
I had the 10 oz Strip and my wife the filet
Preparation was perfection and quality was 5 star

This is the second time we have been here and It is incredible. We had the privilege of having Andy as our server and he was nothing short of amazing. Both times we have been here, the customer service has been top notch. I am also grateful that Natasha stopped by our table to say hi. She helped out a bit last time as well and is such a sweet human. Definitely our new spot to go for a nice dinner out. Thank you Modern for making our anniversary celebration so special.

Always a favourite restaurant when visiting Calgary. Jeremy went above and beyond with his impressive knowledge of the menu and wine. The absolute best beef carpaccio too!

Dined at this establishment earlier last week and experienced an out of this world level of hospitality from the staff of Modern Steak! Our server Jeremy was an absolute delight and displayed an exemplary expertise on diverse spirits and cocktails that would not only enhance our entrees but also were unique and Something we haven’t tried prior. Wes was also fantastic and heightened our experience tremendously with his hard work and exceptional hospitality skills. The steaks were prepared to perfection and were plated and brought to the table very efficiently. Would definitely recommend this establishment!

The service and overall environment were pretty nice, clean and well organized.

The food didn't deliver on the quality, specifically the steaks. The meat was tough and full of connective tissue, fat cap wasn't trimmed and took up the majority share of what was on the plate. I would have been embarrassed to feed the steaks our table had to guests in my own home for free.

Side dishes were all pretty good though.

Excellent meal. Steak was perfectly cooked. The Lemon Cloud Cake was outstanding. Our server Anna and the rest of the staff were excellent.

It was a privilege to be taken care of by Jeremy. Extravagant Tastes on the Wagyu, it was much worth our time.
