Nova Scotian here - tasting as much local cuisine as possible - and I'm full of regrets. After eating at 10 different 4+/5 rated restaurants so far, I can confidently say that Calgarians have few to zero options for good food. I paid $46 for 2 very small and very bland breakfasts that neither I nor my wife could even finish. This is the kind of meal you'd expect to see at a gas station for $5 in Nova Scotia, and even then you'd probably ask for your money back :)

Very sad Nellies on 9th St is closing. All the best to Mike, Nancy and Jack. Great memories over many years - hospitality and relaxing breakfasts.

Unassuming cafe which has the most fantastic breakfast. Plentiful and delicious.
The hash dish has 2 poached eggs - cooked perfectly and so delicious. The belly buster breakfast has it all. The hash potatoes were hiding under those pancakes.

Nellie's, I really wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but...really? The hashbrown portions were so small and I tried the "Nellie's favorite" Mexican style breakfast (forgot what it's called) and it was just awful. Please don't have that as a recommendation on your menu. It tasted like abunch of overcooked and canned olives dumped on a tortilla wrap and stuck in the oven until crispy. I'm sorry but it was just really not good.
The fact that we had two dishes with SMALL portions of hashbrowns and coffee that came to over $50 is just wild. I was very upset leaving the restaurant. I wanted to support a local business for breakfast instead of going to Denny's or something but this was not it.
Decor was cool though and our waiter was very nice. Perhaps specific things are good here but, don't get what I ordered.

We were in town for a conference and on the last day decided we needed a proper breakfast. We took a chance on Nellie's and I am glad we did!!

The food is outstanding! It has been a long time since I've had a breakfast that made me want to come back every morning. The service is also very good. We always felt taken care of.

We will be sure to visit every time we are in Calgary!

Definitely not the same quality as other Nellies locations I had gone to in the past. I remember the breakfasts and lunch entrees at the old 17th Avenue SW location being of excellent quality. The 7th Avenue downtown location is okay for a muffin and a coffee, but I was really disappointed with my $12 BLT the other day. Wow that was the skimpiest BLT I've ever seen! The menu said that it came with hash browns. Not only were they a tiny portion, but they were deep fried! What's so difficult about par boiling potatoes ahead of time, dicing them up, and sauteing them on the flat top grill with a bit of butter made to order? Deep frying hash browns is a very lazy shortcut, tastes bland, and saturated in fryer oil! I mentioned this to the young fellow working there, and his reply was "that's the way we've always done them". I asked him if he's ever had hash browns prepared the correct way, and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.Other than the subpar food, his service was excellent, and he was very attentive. He appeared to be by himself, busing tables, serving patrons, and working the till. He also seemed highly stressed as a result.

The water was good, didn’t like the vibes, so I left. Probably pretty good.

The stuffed French toast was not good at all. There was zero flavor and the inside was not cooked at all. Although the owner did say after I didn’t eat it that they stuck a finger in it and it was cooked- I can assure you the inside of the toast was not cooked and only the outside was. I was asked to pay full price for a meal that was less than satisfactory, and argued with. I would not recommend this restaurant.
