Really enjoyed the food! Plus as a Jamaican that has been on the hunt for authentic patties, this place has the best I’ve tried here for sure!

im surprised by some of the reviews i read. I've been searching for a good Caribbean spot, and id say this is probably the best out of all of them in calgary. Decent portion sizes for price and, more importantly, the taste is pretty good.

Ordered the jerk chicken and the stew chicken. The jerk chicken's taste and preparation was on point. The stew chicken was delicious as well. They actually took time to put in potatoes and carrots to the stew, which actually does add flavour.

I wouldnt say its the best I've had personally, but its the best I've had here in calgary... SO FAR.

I would definitely recommend to others.

Curry in my roti was soup, but the flavours where there. Fried chicken and rice was ok kinda dry.

I ordered curry goat, white rice and 3 Pattie’s. Shocked about the flavourless taste of the food. I was so excited only to be highly disappointed. This food didn’t taste like authentic Jamaican food and the portion of meat for large was subpar. I even tried to add more spice from my cupboard, didn’t help at all. The Pattie’s taste like freezer Pattie’s heated up. Never ordering here again. A waste of $55. I couldn’t even continue eating… yea, that bad. These other reviews aren’t from Jamaicans.

The medium fried chicken is the best food I ever ate. Enjoy wig a non alcoholic ginger beer to have the flavour and sauce dance in your pallet. So far everything I tried is delicious! The Pattie’s, festivities, jerk chicken, rice, vegetables, coleslaw, malt, peanut punch, ting, pie etc.

The worst chicken roti I have ever had.

Greasy and full of bones, lacking in any flavour.

Luckily I have tried roti's all over the Caribbean, and this is not a roti, not even close.

Do yourself a favour and order elsewhere.

Best jerk chicken in Calgary.
Good portion of chicken and rice but there is so little slaw. They serve it in a TINY takeout sauce container and fills its half-full. Would have liked to see more slaw since it's cheap to make. It would make for much happier customers.

I was too eager so I forgot to take a picture but that wouldn't even give it justice. Absolutely AMAZING curry chicken, rice and peas and coleslaw!! Anytime I'm in this area, I automatically come here. I can't even put into words how good the food is!!

Cayjag Views & Reviews

**Polly's Kitchen, 1446 17 Ave SW, Calgary**At the heart of Calgary's culinary landscape, Polly’s Kitchen aims to bring the vibrant flavors of Jamaica to the forefront. However, my recent visit revealed that there's room for improvement for this Jamaican outpost.**Access and Hygiene Concerns**On arrival, the entry through the rear parking lot, which meanders through a hair salon, was unexpected. One doesn’t usually correlate dining experiences with hair salons, raising concerns about hygiene and the overall atmosphere even before entering the restaurant.**Service Delays**Once inside, the wait time for acknowledgment was noticeable, as staff seemed occupied with cooking duties. While patience is often a virtue, especially in establishments that pride themselves on freshly prepared dishes, there’s a fine line between reasonable wait times and those that test diners' patience. Thankfully, the redeeming quality here was the staff's amicability, a glimmer of genuine Jamaican hospitality.**Culinary Misses**I opted for the fried chicken, a staple in many Jamaican eateries. At $24, expectations were understandably high. Regrettably, the dish did not live up to its billing. The chicken was overly dry, with an accompaniment that resembled used frying oil more than a savory sauce. The aftermath of the meal was even more concerning, as I felt unusually fatigued, possibly due to the richness and questionable freshness of the oil.**Ambiance and Decor**The restaurant's interior felt slightly cramped and could benefit from improved ventilation. Yet, the setting was still passable for an intimate Jamaican diner. The pricing, given the quality and quantity of dishes, does seem to lean towards the steeper side.**In Conclusion**Polly's Kitchen has the potential to be a shining beacon for Jamaican cuisine in Calgary. While my experience was less than stellar, I firmly believe that with some attention to detail, especially in terms of food preparation and optimizing the entrance experience, this establishment can indeed excel. It's essential not to judge a place solely based on a singular experience. Therefore, I intend to return and sample other dishes before forming a final impression. Polly’s Kitchen, here’s hoping my next visit showcases the best you have to offer.
