My new favourite place to eat. Delicious prepared to perfection and just an exquisite food experience. I am sooo happy that we stumbled into this eatery. If you haven’t tried it you don’t know what you’re missing!
If you are looking for a different culinary experience, Primary Colours is a must. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable and respectful! Each dish was so flavourful and satisfying. We had the Candied Hazelnuts and the fries as the snack foods. We had the Small Plate Ginger Beets. For the Large Plate options we chose the Burger Beef Dip and Mushroom Cannelloni. Dessert was the cheesecake and the Not so Lemon tart with Saskatoon sorbet. The unusual flavours were absolutely delightful. We will definitely be going back!

Primary Colours in Calgary truly stands out as a fine dining experience that combines culinary innovation with exceptional value. From the moment you step in, the ambiance is inviting yet sophisticated, setting the stage for what is to come.
Vegetarian Foie Gras
A standout dish that could easily fool even the most discerning palate. The vegetarian foie gras had the same rich, creamy texture and depth of flavor that you would expect from traditional foie gras. It was a hit not just with adults, but surprisingly, even my kids enjoyed it, a testament to its wide appeal and remarkable flavor profile.
Ginger Beets
This dish was a revelation. The combination of ginger with beets was not just unique but extraordinarily flavorful. The texture, particularly the fried portion, introduced a new dimension to beet dishes that I’ve never encountered before. It was a harmonious blend of earthiness from the beets and the zing of ginger, making it both refreshing and indulgent.
Bison Tartare
I’m a fan of tartare, and the bison tartare at Primary Colours did not disappoint. The bison was tender, and the flavors were beautifully balanced. Served on lightly salted chips, each bite offered a delightful contrast between the savory tartare and the crisp, slightly salty base, making for a truly satisfying dish.
Seafood Tower
The seafood tower was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Presented with elegance, it offered a wide array of seafood options. The oysters, in particular, were fresh and delicious, showcasing the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Each item on the tower was meticulously prepared, making it a highlight of the meal.
Ribeye and Brisket
Both the ribeye and brisket were cooked to perfection, exuding juiciness and bursting with flavor. The meats were tender, with just the right amount of seasoning, making it hard to resist going back for more. It’s clear that Primary Colours takes great care in selecting and preparing their cuts of meat.
Duck
Duck can be a tricky dish, but Primary Colours nailed it. The duck was tender, with a well-balanced flavor that made it an outstanding entree. It was a pleasant surprise, and one of the highlights of the evening.
Fish
While I can’t recall the specific type of fish we had, what remains vivid is the texture—amazingly soft, buttery, and bursting with flavor. It was cooked to perfection, with a delicate balance of seasoning that highlighted the natural flavors of the fish.
Mocktails
I do not drink often so I was very appreciative that they had non-alcoholic mocktails here. My wife and I independently ordered the Bright and Stormy by coincidence and we both agreed it was one of the best mocktails we have had. Very refreshing.
Generous Portions
One of the most surprising aspects of dining at Primary Colours is the portion sizes. Most restaurants of this caliber tend to serve smaller portions, but at Primary Colours, the servings are generous, especially considering the quality and sophistication of the dishes. It’s a fine dining experience that is not only satisfying in terms of taste but also offers excellent value for the price.
Overall, Primary Colours delivers a top-notch dining experience that marries creativity with tradition, all while providing generous portions at a reasonable price. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in an unforgettable meal in Calgary. Thank you to the chef and his team for an excellent dining experience!

Chorizo weren’t cooked properly. Very poor quality Cézar. Great service by Abby
I made a reservation in advance, expecting a pleasant dining experience. However, upon arrival, I was thoroughly disappointed. Despite the restaurant being half-empty, we were given an uncomfortable bench right at the entrance. When we requested to be seated at a more comfortable table, which were visibly available, our request was ignored. The service was indifferent and unaccommodating, completely ruining what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening. Don't count on this place for a special night. Even with a reservation, there is no guarantee you'll get a proper seat. I won't be returning.

Ate here last night to celebrate and was disappointed that this restaurant didn't live up to the other reviews on Google. The atmosphere and food were mediocre, only redeemed by the decent service we received from Dana. Husband and I had the Garlic Toast, Beef Dip Burger and Ribeye steak. The fat on the steak was not well rendered. Even my cocktail (Cherry Royale), was unexciting. Would not recommend or go back again.

Had an incredible meal with most delectable flavours and execution! Our waiter gave us great suggestions on what to order. We felt the menu didn't read as well as the food tasted and will be back. Chef Matthias is a star!

This restaurant is outstanding. My wife and I have eaten at the vast majority of Calgary’s highest rated restaurants over the past 10 years, and Primary Colours stands with the best.
We dined here for dinner and the food was absolutely incredible. The Faux Gras and sourdough is an absolute must, it’s honestly one of the most interesting dishes I’ve ever eaten - the breadth of flavours perfectly balanced was a remarkable achievement.
Highly recommend this restaurant!
