Pizza by the slice is not good! It was old pizza, and I got 3 slices meat lovers, which was the oldest, donair, and cheese, which was the freshest. Cheese had a good crust, that was the best part, the crust. The sauce was pretty bland and the cheese was just ok. Meat lovers at least had some salt to it, but it sat way too long. The display cabinet must not be working, because the guy takes it out and puts it in the oven. I get it, those things are expensive, like 5k for a cheap one. The donair was an abomination, I lived in Halifax, and that was upsetting. The sauce was so sweet, it was almost like candy bread, only 3 little slices of donair on top of the cheese, so weird. Take donair pizza off the menu, that's embarrassing!

I ate 2 slices of pizza . Dinner and butter chicken . I'm used to domino's pizza but this was pretty good a for a small local place . I will say the butter chicken one was lacking a bit in flavor. But the domain one was good. The lady was super nice to us.

I came here once about 6 months ago and ordered one slice of pepperoni pizza. I ordered to go, and when I got a few blocks away I took my first bite and noticed the dough is way undercooked, raw. I walked all the way back, and told the guy working, and he put it back in the conveyor oven. I took it thinking it would be cooked properly, but nope, still raw dough! I tossed it in the garbage and that was that.
I haven't been back since, until today. I was waiting for my order to be prepared next door at Damascus (they were very busy as usual), and thought I would try a slice at Sal's again while I was waiting. Besides, the place had new signage, and I thought perhaps there might be new ownership or management, and it turns out I was right. I came into the store, said hello, and asked the young lady what types of pizzas were in the glass cabinet. She said "hawaiian, pepperoni, and plain cheese pizza". I specifically asked for one slice of pepperoni. I trusted that she heard me place my order, as I spoke very clearly and we were only standing a couple of feet apart. I even pointed at the slice that I wanted. Then when it came time to pay, I tapped my card. The total came to $6, and I thought that was rather expensive for a single slice of pizza but said nothing. Next thing I know, she's packing two slices into a box for me. I asked her why is there two slices? She replied with, "you ordered two slices." I said that I most definitely did not, and I was very clear that I only wanted one slice of pepperoni. Besides, I was waiting for my food order next door to be prepared. She said, "oh not to worry it's only $6 for two slices". I said, well that's a good deal but not the point, and that she needs to pay attention next time somebody places an order.
So I walked out, went next door to Damascus to check on my order which was still being prepared. I went outside, placed the pizza box on one of the tables, and opened it up. Inside was one slice of pepperoni, and one slice of plain cheese pizza! Never in my life have I ever ordered plain cheese pizza, nor would I ever have a desire to eat that. Not unless it was an authentic Italian style Margherita. The pizza they served me was disgusting, old and dry, mostly dough, basically inedible.
This was very disappointing, so I went back into Sal's and spoke to both the young lady, and a man who was working there (perhaps the manager or owner?) I reiterated to the young lady that "I only ordered one slice of pizza, pepperoni. And that even if I had ordered a second piece (which I didn't), it would never be a plain cheese pizza, which was horrible by the way." She refunded me $3, and was very polite about it.
My first experience with this place was raw pizza dough 6 months ago. And today their inability to take an order without totally screwing it up means I won't be coming back to Sal's ever again. However, if the pizza had been of a decent quality, I might be willing to make an exception. Unfortunately their pizza is garbage, typical Calgary conveyor oven pizza, all dough, dry toppings, and barely any of them. The worst of the worst in my opinion.
You really have to wonder where all of these four and five-star reviews are coming from. Haven't any of these people ever eaten quality pizza? The standard in Calgary for pizza has become very low because of places like this. But then there is a high school directly across the street. That might explain all of the glowing reviews, Lol

Vegetarian options: The veggie pizza is very delicious and the donair pizza is sweet and tastes good.
Parking: Parking is somehow good for a few minutes after if you are staying for a long period you have to pay . Because it paid parking lot.
Kid-friendliness: All the students from the nearby school were there on a big line to get there pizza
When we left a negative review, the owner accused us of being dishonest. We would never go through the trouble of visiting a restaurant in cold weather just to leave a fake review. Additionally, we didn't even have dinner that day because of the bad pizza. The owner also refused to apologize and instead continued to blame us. Unfortunately, we had to throw away the entire pizza, which was a waste of food."
