I had not visited in a while, so I was happy we chose Shijo Cafe for dinner last night. The restaurant was clean and tidy just as we remembered. It shows that the team takes pride in keeping the space looking fresh. That level of care makes the atmosphere warm and inviting, especially compared to places that do not keep up with these details.
The food was amazing. We ordered three of the chef special rolls and enjoyed every one. Each bite flowed nicely into the next, creating a wonderful sushi experience. It truly felt elevated.
They also have cooked dishes that we have enjoyed in the past, but this time we were craving sushi. From what I remember, brunch was fantastic too, with a great variety of lattes and teas.
Overall, it was a great return visit and we left very satisfied.

I’ve been here three times for brunch now, and it’s always been great. The food is flavorful and super unique, with very reasonable pricing. It’s a good spot if you want both Canadian and Japanese-style dishes, there is lots of variety. The restaurant is beautiful with modern, sleek japandi vibe. The food is presented beautifully using high end dinnerware. Definitely one of my go to brunch places.
Came here a few times always quiet. I think if this was in a more central location like downtown it would be more popular. Food tastes good and looks good.

The restaurant offers dishes ranging from traditional Japanese to Japanese fusion cuisine. Over the past year, the menu has been regularly updated with new items, including seasonal sashimi, sushi, and rolls.
My personal favorite is definitely the duck breast udon—tender duck meat served with bonito broth udon—which I almost always crave. However, I also sometimes try other dishes like pancakes and Eggs Benedict, which never disappoint.
Additionally, I highly recommend their slow brew coffee, which is hard to find at this quality and price elsewhere.
