We've tried other places occasionally, but we keep coming back to Surya because they are simply the best. This is a local restaurant run by a lovely couple. It has a cozy atnosphere and amazing food. The menu has all the popular Indian dishes you'd expect as well as some really interesting Indo-Chinese items. Highly recommend.

Our family discovered this place a few weekends ago. I used to say things like "the best butter chicken is from so and so" and "the best naan bread is from so and so" etc. There are some decent Indian restaurants we have tried over the years and we have been fans of specific dishes at certain places.Well, Surya has topped the list on almost everything now. My wife and I LOVE Indian food. We have probably been to around 2 dozen different Indian places in Alberta, BC and Manitoba because we like to order Indian on the road as well.Without a doubt, the dishes at Surya are the absolute best we have ever tried. We've tried the Daal Makhni, Butter Chicken, Vindaloo (beef and lamb), Prawn Malai Curry and Palak Paneer as well as the Garlic Naan bread. Every single dish we tried has been the best version we've ever had from a restaurant, including the Naan bread. The dishes are so flavourful and I love that they can customize the spice levels. Asking for extra hot is ACTUALLY extra hot (I'm Korean and I want my eyes to water when I say extra hot). On the opposite end, asking for mild is a great options for my kids and they absolutely LOVE the Butter Chicken and Palak Paneer (which speaks volumes since they hate spinach in general).We have only ordered take-out so I can't speak to the in restaurant experience, but this will very likely be the only Indian place we order from from now on in Calgary!
This is the best Indian food we have had in the city! It’s a very small restaurant and the service is incredible. We can’t recommend it enough. Everyone go support this local family restaurant :)
