Really really wanted to like Taiyo more! I ordered ramen and sushi. The ramen broth was not as flavourful as I was hoping for, quite bland. The sushi was good but fell apart easily. Portion sizes are worth the money though, and friendly customer service!
Taiyo is a Japanese restaurant hidden away in the outer limits of northwest Calgary. It deserves to be near the top of anyone's list of excellent dining opportunities in the city. It is definitely worth a special trip. Taiyo offers a wonderful menu running the gamut from sushi and sashimi, through various noodle and ramen dishes, a myriad of great salads and much much more. The service is friendly and polite and the prices reasonable for such quality, tastiness and portion...
I've been going to Taiyo for many years, and have never been disappointed. One thing I love about this place is that when the Chefs receive your order they will take the time to arrange it beautifully and will often add an extra piece or two at no charge to bring the presentation together. The restaurant is very clean, small and cozy, and the servers are friendly and professional.
