Great food and great guys
I genuinely love this place. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care. You can tell the people here take pride in what they do. Everything I have tried has been consistently good, and the quality never disappoints.
The staff are kind, welcoming, and make you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. It is the kind of place you keep coming back to because it feels familiar and reliable in the best way.
If you are looking for great food made with heart, this spot is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend.

I love this place and go almost every week for lunch. It's been over 10 years since I tasted the delicious food at The Chick Pea's original location on 8th Ave and it's only gotten better. Their new location is great and they create wraps and platters in a fast moving assembly line so even if there is a queue of hungry people, you won't be waiting long. The people are great too - always up for a bit of banter. The rice platters are a very healthy portion of food and the salads are delicious too if you're looking for a healthier option.

The best place for Shawarma in the city with an owner and employees that feel like family.

I visited The Chick Pea, a Middle Eastern restaurant with a typical menu of shawarma, falafel, and donair, along with a variety of side dishes. I decided to keep it simple and ordered a basic falafel sandwichâjust bread, falafel, lettuce, tomato, and tahini sauceâto focus on the falafel itself.
The sandwich looked fresh and was neatly prepared: the bread was soft, the lettuce crisp and cool, the tomato fresh, and the tahini sauce flavorful. However, the falafel itself was disappointing. While it had a nice crispy texture, it had a noticeable bitter aftertaste. I even tried a piece on its own to be sure it wasnât the sauce, and unfortunately, the bitterness came from the falafel.
Interestingly, Iâve noticed this same bitter taste at several falafel spots in Calgary. It could be due to mass-produced falafel mixes with added baking soda or bicarbonate for extra crispiness, which can lead to bitterness when cooked.
Overall, The Chick Pea delivered on freshness and presentation, but the falafel flavor left much to be desired. It was okay, but not great.

Decent, but small portionsâŠtheyâre very tight with the vegetables on the salad

I had the chicken platter and the chicken was literally inedible, 90% of it was fatty, grisly pieces that I had to spit into a napkin. The staff were really nice.

The worst shawarma Iâve ever had. Tiny portions, meet is filled with inedible pieces of fat and grime. Complete waste of money.
