Best pizza ive ever had then one of the worst, the new owner destroyed the business by cutting quality and toppings. Ive been eating their pizza for over 30 years, the previous owner made the best pizza in the world. I can still remember the taste, and crave it to this day. Today the restaurant is capable of making great pizza but totally not consistent enough at it for me to trust them enough to actually order a full pizza. I visit the location for slices only when they have them out. I leave empty handed unfortunately most of the time. Absolutely unheard of years ago with the previous owner who had a line up from morning to night time, and always fresh pizza slices available if you stopped by. If you're lucky enough to get a good one you won't regret it.

Great place!!!
I recently had the misfortune to have a sliver of their pizza. I gotta say it was disgusting one bite and went in the bin.
I couldn't even pick it up it was so soggy and undercooked.
Maybe the owner should take some kind of medical science, cos the sure cannot cook pizza

I recently visited Vern’s Pizza on 28th St., and I must say I was genuinely impressed. The pizza itself was excellent — starting with the dough, which is truly the foundation of any good pizza. Here, it was simply perfect: light yet flavorful, with the right texture. The toppings were clearly made from fresh and high-quality ingredients, which added to the overall experience.
I ordered the Hawaiian pizza, and it arrived almost exactly on time — just a few minutes later than expected, which is completely reasonable. Ordering was easy and convenient, especially since no registration was required, and that alone made me choose this place over others.
The staff member I spoke with — possibly the owner — was very friendly and welcoming. The washroom was clean, functional, and well-equipped, which shows attention to detail. The interior and exterior of the restaurant are tidy and pleasant, though I would personally love to see more design elements tied specifically to pizza.
Overall, Vern’s Pizza on 28th St. delivers on its most important promise: great pizza. Everything about the food was spot on, and the service left a good impression. It may not be the absolute best pizza in town — to be fair, I’m still figuring out where that might be — but it is definitely worth your attention. My only small suggestion would be to enrich the interior with more personality. Aside from that, I can easily recommend this place to anyone looking for quality pizza.

This is a photo of the TREX I got tonight…. Been a customer since 2006 and always looked past the amount they charged due to the quality of pizza, that has obviously changed. Like a typical boomer, I am not mad, just disappointed.

Vern’s is one of those must try Calgary institutions. It’s not like other pizza. You’re getting a little bread, a little cheese, and a ridiculous amount of toppings. In fact it’s best eaten with a knife and fork. I love Vern’s, it’s very filling, but it’s not for everyone.

Restaurantji Recommends
Ordered a half and half original thick , no meat on it cheese was still cold and the staff member Robert was very rude arguing with me about what I ordered. Bring back the old Vern’s . Save your money and make a frozen pizza for $4.00

I thought that this would be the same as saskatoon verns pizza, but nope it doesn't taste at all like them,I was very disappointed with the pizza,I won't be going back there to order again,I heard new owners? Not sure but maybe that would explain it.

I’ve been a steady, loyal customer at Vern’s Pizza (this particular location) for over 15 years now and there was a time when I could honestly say that this pizza was some of the best around, it was always a quality pie…was! My experience with the food here lately hasn’t been great, and was outright grim this evening!! I ordered a 15” T-Rex with extra sauce to go…not only did I not get extra sauce on my pizza, the cheese had a dry, unsavoury texture, and the meats appeared to be thrown on without any care whatsoever; one slice thin and the next overly thick. It was far from anything I’d call quality and definitely not worth the $50 (tip included) walking it out the door. I think I would have found better in a frozen food isle!! Horrible pizza…and a disappointed wifey and kiddo! Done with this place, never again!…I have plenty of leftovers if anyone wants them!
