After landing and dropping our bags in Canmore, hunger led us straight to Tavern 1883. Sitting at the base of a mountain, the outdoor seating had a perfect view that set the tone right away. The staff was welcoming, the beers hit the spot (beer really does taste better on vacation), and everyone’s food came out exactly as ordered. I went with a bison burger—because when I’m out west, it’s always bison or elk for me—and it was fantastic. Between the views, the relaxed vibe, a solid happy hour, and great service, Tavern 1883 was the perfect first stop.

My husband and I stayed in Canmore for our Banff vacation and the tavern was recommended to us by our b & b host...and thank god it was. We relied on it twice for sustenance after long days of hiking and this place always delivered. The noise volume for sitting outside wasn't too loud, the food absolutely fantastic, and the wait staff very easy going and worked very efficiently. Oh yeah, and they're so accommodating that they include beds for people who bring in pets (we saw a dog enjoying one). Couldn't recommend Tavern 1883 anymore!

You are missing out if you do not enjoy at least one meal at this restaurant. As dog owners we were highly impressed with the dog menu and the treatment of our pup. The drinks and food were all excellent. My husband had the bison burger and it was rated number one of many we have had so far on our trip. The Cobb salad was loaded with avocado and bacon.

Nice little spot if you’re staying in the area! Had a good chat with that bartender working. Feels like a dive bar vibe but the place is in great condition!

Stopped in here to watch the Jays game and have a beer or two. Only a few apples for food, but we weren’t there to eat. Great atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, good TVs, super friendly and efficient Bartender! What more can you ask for? We’ll be back.

So if you want one of the best burgers you will ever eat, dine here! I ordered the Canadian, which was a bison burger, and it was amazing. My 14-year-old had the standard Tavern burger and agreed it was probably the best burger she has ever eaten. Huge portion sizes and great atmosphere. It is hidden away in a back street, so you wouldn't know it was there unless you were looking for it. Do yourself a favour and visit!

We were passing through Canmore and needed dinner after many businesses had closed down. The Tavern was full of people - clearly a popular place. The food was very good, the service was very good. I imagine there are times when it gets very loud, but at almost 10pm on Monday it was fine. We didn't experience anything groundbreaking or unexpected - we wanted a basic meal without fuss and that's what we got.
