Phoenix Asia Buffet

Came in and said no buffet a la carte only.

I'm going to start by saying that I for a small town such as Canmore, don't get your hopes up in regards to getting good Chinese food. Nonetheless, this place delivered - and what I managed to order was more than satisfying for someone keen on traditional Chinese cuisine (such as myself).

First of all, ask for their Chinese menu - they have a separate one that isn't shown on their website nor any of the pictures posted here on google. You'll find an assortment of Chinese dishes that are as authentic as you can reasonably get in a town such as Canmore. Out of these options, I recommend the water boiled fish (水煮鱼), Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐 - make sure to request they don't add any sugar into it!), and braised beef brisket/tendon (牛腩煲). Also, on the English menu there is an item called "BBQ pork" - this is Chinese char sui (叉烧) and it's actually pretty good.

Anyways, overall I enjoyed my two meals at Phoenix Asia Buffet. The name is definitely misleading (they don't do buffet anymore I'm pretty sure) but it's the to-go spot for Chinese food if you want it.

Had dinner here last night. Came here seeing all the sushi and buffet pictures online but when we sat down, the sushi was not available and there is no buffet so not sure if it's because it's the weekend but there is no mention of it anywhere.
We had the dinner for four and the main dishes came out put in the middle of the table like any Chinese restaurant to share. But no utensils came in the dish so we weren't sure how we'd get the fried rice without a spoon or anything to scoop it onto our plate/bowl. So we asked the waitress for utensils but you could tell in her attitude she felt hassled by this request so we didn't want to ask her for anything else.
The food was ok but nothing special. Price was reasonable. There was just our table of 6 and maybe a small table on the other side so it wasn't busy.
Not sure what the other reviews are talking about but maybe it's the weekdays that this place has buffet or sushi available. Just don't come here on weekends is all I can say.

My young daughter and I stood at the front for 15 minutes before the server finally asked from across the restaurant if we wanted something. I asked if we are supposed to seat ourselves or something, we've been standing here for 15 minutes. She said oh, I guess you can sit here or here at two dingy looking tables. I said ok then, politely said we know what we want to order as she walked away, I called out Maki combo, and she proceeded to say the sushi chef is away on vacation, no Japanese food. I said that would have been nice to know before I stood there for 15 minutes. She said oh I'm just busy so I didn't get to you. That was definitely not the case. I patiently watched her casually and slowly chat and help her 4 existing tables, clearly not that busy or in a rush to do anything and occasionally glance at me uncaringly. I told her it was very rude. We left and will never consider going back.

We had Singapore noodles and Stir fried beef. The food respects the original flavors without overpowering condiments.

We had a very bad experience at this restaurant. The staff were not friendly. We also got charged extra for food we did not even order. The staff does not pay attention to orders. And when we told them about the food we did not order, they got mad and were shouting at all of us. SO RUDE!!! And based on reading the other comments, it looks like this is becoming their modus operandi. Avoid this restaurant at all costs!!! Save your money and go somewhere else. This restaurant is not worth your stress!!!

Friendly staff. Great food. Reasonably priced. We fed 55 people with their 40 and 20 person party trays and had plenty of food left over.

Very authentic Chinese food, we came here twice in a row and it was great. Stir-fried mutton with green onions, mapo tofu, boiled beef, Chinese green vegetables, and Xingzhou fried rice. Canmore’s Chinese stomachs are in luck.

Food was bland and didn't have much flavor. We ordered the fried rice, noodles, and Chicken with vegetables. Food arrived before app, which was Chicken wings. I also don't know of it's standard for this restaurant but the waiter just went ahead and added tip herself. It does not state anywhere on the receipt that they already add the gratuity on.

I have to be fair and say that the staff was all very accommodating when it came to making sure our food met all of our dietary restrictions. But that's unfortunately where the pros stop. The food was bland as can be. Tasted like it was all seasoned with water. French fries were the best dish ordered. There was sushi/sashimi on the menu but they said they weren't serving it that day which was annoying since that's mostly why I came. Also the name is just insanely misleading since there's no buffet at all. All in all would not return but we do appreciate how we were dealt with. Amazing service.
